[Bug 1965656] [NEW] gnome shell overuses memory causing overheating
Public bug reported: My laptop with an i7 10750H CPU and NVIDIA 2070 MaxQ GPU undergoes overheating often. [Bug 1965651] [NEW] ubiquity crash stops the installation of kubuntu 22.04
Public bug reported: I created a boot-able USB using Kubuntu 21.10 and the package startup disk creator. I have tried different downloaded iso's for kubuntu 22.04 with the same result of ubiquity crashing before an installation can start. I went as far as zeroing the USB before making it bootable for kubuntu 22.04. That USB gave he same result of ubiquity crashing. I did find a February iso and that went through to the installation step without crashing. However because of the large number of updates the system was not usable. [Bug 1965648] [NEW] Autorotate initiates, but doesn't reset
Public bug reported: In jammy I can get mutter's auto-rotate to switch to portrait mode ("right-up") by rotating the device (this only worked in impish if I installed the autorotate gnome-shell extension). However, putting it back into "normal" orientation doesn't put the screen back in landscape mode. Flipping it around ("left-up") does swap to the reverse portrait mode, but still can't get back to "normal" afterward. running `monitor-sensor` does show the accelerometer orientation change events (including the "normal" ones) triggering properly, just the desktop doesn't respond. Plugging in an external monitor does seem to trigger the desktop to go back to normal landscape mode. [Bug 1965645] [NEW] [UIFe] New Ubuntu Studio logo, additional wallpaper for Jammy
Public bug reported: [ Explanation ] As with other official flavors of Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio is a part of the overarching Ubuntu project. With the revelation of the new Ubuntu logo[1] set to take effect with the release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu Studio wishes to keep the branding of the flavor consistent, mirroring that of Ubuntu. It is understood that the flavors do not have to change their logos, but branding consistency is of importance in these matters. Unfortunately, the new Ubuntu logo was revealed just two days prior to User Interface Freeze (UIF), leaving flavors very little time to adapt in time for the freeze. Such changes to icons and logos create a definite change to the user interface. However, these changes do not change anything for these translations, so nothing else changes. [ Justification ] As mentioned in the previous paragraph, nothing in these changes anything for translations as these are all merely graphical changes. Additionally, this would lower maintenance required to keep from having to maintain two separate sets of logo variations for the next three years. Instead this would keep branding consistent with Ubuntu, and lead the way for other flavors to give inspiration for how other flavors may adapt their logos accordingly. Seeing as how Ubuntu Studio is about artwork (of all kinds), it does make sense for it to be the first to do a major artwork-related change. [ Other Information ] Attached you will find examples of the logo changes. Additionally, the kickoff launcher (think start menu) button will become a square version of what already existed, as will any "distributor-logo" icons. Following attempting to drag the tab, the next click in firefox is discarded/ignored and things like mouse wheel scrolls don't work until firefox is clicked in ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: firefox 97.0.1+build1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-23.23-generic 5.15.27 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-23-generic x86_64 AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu79 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jbarnett 92319 F pulseaudio BuildID: 20220216172458 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown Channel: Unavailable CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sat Mar 19 13:37:18 2022 Extensions: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing ForcedLayersAccel: False IfupdownConfig: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback IncompatibleExtensions: Unavailable (corrupt or non-existant compatibility.ini or extensions.sqlite) InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-08-17 (945 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" - Alpha amd64 (20190305.1) IpRoute: default via 192.168.4.1 dev wlp2s0 proto dhcp metric 600 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlp2s0 scope link metric 1000 172.17.0.0/16 dev docker0 proto kernel scope link src 172.17.0.1 linkdown 192.168.4.0/22 dev wlp2s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.6.86 metric 600 Locales: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing MostRecentCrashID: bp-76c5697a-ecec-48ea-b09a-9db310190506 PrefErrors: Unexpected character ',' before close parenthesis @ /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja:greprefs.js:365 PrefSources: /usr/lib/firefox/defaults/pref/all-ubuntu-gnome.js prefs.js Profiles: Profile0 (Default) - LastVersion=98.0.1/20220313140707 (Out of date) RunningIncompatibleAddons: False Snap.Changes: ID Status Spawn Ready Summary 495 Done2022-03-19T13:27:26-07:00 2022-03-19T13:30:56-07:00 Remove "firefox" snap 496 Done2022-03-19T13:33:19-07:00 2022-03-19T13:34:07-07:00 Install "firefox" snap SourcePackage: firefox SubmittedCrashIDs: bp-76c5697a-ecec-48ea-b09a-9db310190506 Themes: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to jammy on 2022-03-18 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 03/25/2021 dmi.bios.release: 1.15 dmi.bios.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.bios.version: 1.15.1 dmi.board.name: 0N338G dmi.board.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.board.version: A00 dmi.chassis.type: 31 dmi.chassis.vendor: Dell Inc. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnDellInc.:bvr1.15.1:bd03/25/2021:br1.15:svnDellInc.:pnXPS159575:pvr:rvnDellInc.:rn0N338G:rvrA00:cvnDellInc.:ct31:cvr:sku080D: dmi.product.family: XPS dmi.product.name: XPS 15 9575 dmi.product.sku: 080D dmi.sys.vendor: Dell Inc. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug jammy wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965638 Title: Can't drag to reorder tabs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1965638/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1965609] Re: Not all Hunngarian keyboard layouts' name translated to Hungarian layout
Thanks for your report. In xkeyboard-config the string representing the first of those layout variants looks like this: "Hungarian (101/QWERTY/comma/dead keys)" And that string has a Hungarian translation: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/xkeyboard- config/+pots/xkeyboard-config/hu/515 However, the gnome-control-center developers seem to think that commas look better than slashes to separate the various aspects of the layout: "Hungarian (QWERTY, 101-key, comma, dead keys)" But by splitting and recreating the string that way, they end up with a different string for which no translation exists. And that's most likely the explanation for the other untranslated layout names as well. And it's not only affecting users with a Hungarian locale — I see those strings untranslated when using a Swedish locale, for instance. So it's a bug in gnome-control-center. @Viktor: It would be great if you could call upstream's attention to this by submitting an issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues If you do, can you please post the URL to the upstream issue here for tracking purposes. ** Also affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Summary changed: - Not all Hunngarian keyboard layouts' name translated to Hungarian layout + Several Hungarian keyboard layout labels untranslated -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965609 Title: Several Hungarian keyboard layout labels untranslated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1965609/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1965002] Re: AWS: Hibernate resume crashes when platform changes
** Description changed: SRU Justification [Impact] At present, if a virt instance is hibernated and restarted in a different environment, the instance will crash. We have seen situations where customers have to enable support cases to recover an instance. The proposed patch is supposed to enable the kernel to detect the change and reboot the instance instead of crashing. In the ACPI specification; there is a 'hardware signature' field in the ACPI tables, and the OS can reboot cleanly if/when that signature changes, instead of attempting the resume and crashing. [Fix] https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=74d9 https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/9099d8903e9b2b16daec712acc9aa533fe84d102.ca...@infradead.org/T/#u [Test Case] - Hibernate an AWS instance, resume on a different platform. + Hibernate an AWS instance, resume on a different platform. Positive test + results from Amazon engineers. [Where things could go wrong] Resume currently crashes when a hibernated instance is migrated to a new machine. It can't get much worse, unless the initial hibernate fails. [Bug 1943124] Re: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy"
I had a similar issue yesterday - not during release upgrade but when installing package updates (Ubuntu 21.10): package libc6 2.34-0ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: unable to open '/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2.dpkg-new': Text file busy The way I resolve it is via dual-boot, I boot to alternative installation, I mount the one which I want to update to let's say /mnt and I do: dpkg -i --root=/mnt libc6.deb This leads to an error "too many levels of symbolic links" but after that I can login to my main installation and finish the package updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1943124 Title: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1943124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1906646] Re: Timed out waiting for device /subsystem/net/devices/wlan0
This behavior is not rPi-specific and affects Netplan in general. This happens when configuring an optional wifis entry for a Wi-Fi adapter that may not be present at boot, such as a Wi-Fi dongle. - The following user reported it on Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 and 20.04: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/1951651 (marked as duplicate) - I encountered it on Ubuntu Core 20: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/ubuntu-core-20-boot-delayed-by-missing-wi-fi-usb-dongle-despite-optional-true-netplan-config/27403 I got a promising reply on the Snapcraft forum thread linked above (direct link to the reply: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/ubuntu- core-20-boot-delayed-by-missing-wi-fi-usb-dongle-despite-optional-true- netplan-config/27403/5). The relevant section is: > The optional: true is a valid flag, but it only handles the waiting for the > network to come up and be configured. There's a reproduction scenario in the original post on the Snapcraft forum as well. ** Bug watch added: github.com/systemd/systemd/issues #4413 https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/4413 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906646 Title: Timed out waiting for device /subsystem/net/devices/wlan0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/1906646/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap
+1 Agree with the other affected users. The project is not ready to be forced on Ubuntu users - maybe never will. Personally I have two main issues that I can not accept: 1) Forcing automatic software updates without user consent. 2) Putting a hardcoded visible folder into the user home directory without the option to change it. Wish Ubuntu all the best and am very thankful for being my go-to for 17+ years. May those executive decisions make Ubuntu appeal to a broader audience and bring on many new users. Me - personally - I'm expecting to sadly switch distribution with one of the next releases. Once uninstalling snap begins to affect the system in a mayor way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965535 Title: Stop recommending snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1965535/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1965614] Re: update-manager
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. How far did you get in troubleshooting sound? ie. did you attempt to follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure or another wiki site? I believe a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu . You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org , or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 I can see no crash info, no issues outside of user created ones (eg. the directory `/etc/apt/sources.list.d/` is empty on a new install so errors in that directory are created by users with `sudo` rights). I'm going to mark this 'incomplete' and suggest you go to a support site; if you feel I'm in error, please provide more detail and change it to 'New" ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965614 Title: update-manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1965614/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
