[Bug 1893716] Re: scripts in /etc/update-motd.d/ run even on login via non-interactive scp and sftp sessions
Overall the majority of this is now fixed and mitigated with the combination of: ubuntu-release-upgrader | 1:22.04.8 | jammy | source landscape-client | 19.12-0ubuntu13| jammy | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x update-notifier | 3.192.54 | jammy | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x There is still the IMHO valid feature request to pam_motd to not run at all in non-interactive sessions which I'll need to file upstream. But already in a system with these updates: ubuntu@login-jammy:~$ dpkg -l ubuntu-release-upgrader-core landscape-common update-notifier-common Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Architecture Description +++--===--=== ii landscape-common 19.12-0ubuntu13 amd64Landscape administration system client - Common files ii ubuntu-release-upgrader-core 1:22.04.8 all manage release upgrades ii update-notifier-common 3.192.54all Files shared between update-notifier and other packages I now get reasonable results. Down from 70-80 seconds to ~20-25 => almost down to 1/4 of the time. At the same time the system is ~16% less busy, so other things running won't stall it that much either and vice versa. What is left looks as in the test sessions. This now mostly comes down to the fact that logging in for every command will in general have overhead to spawn the session. For another gain pam_motd can be disabled as shown above, but that does not reduce it to zero overhead - so as explained any mutli-command submitting solution should still - even with the fix - try to use one login for all of them. # Overhead Command # ... # 32.50% swapper 26.67% sshd 3.53% dbus-daemon 3.37% systemd 2.36% run-parts 2.02% systemd-logind 1.87% find 1.85% gdbus 1.48% cat 1.47% update-motd-fsc 1.22% 50-motd-news 1.17% awk 1.15% systemd-journal 1.11% grep 1.10% bash 1.05% uname 0.98% 00-header 0.93% 91-release-upgr 0.92% 97-overlayroot 0.81% 90-updates-avai 0.80% date 0.72% cut 0.68% 50-landscape-sy 0.62% env 0.59% ksoftirqd/0 0.58% 95-hwe-eol 0.53% stat 0.51% id -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893716 Title: scripts in /etc/update-motd.d/ run even on login via non-interactive scp and sftp sessions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/landscape-client/+bug/1893716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1967988] [NEW] Support different Cirrus audio codec configurations on Dell laptops
Public bug reported: [SRU Justification] [Impact] On Dell's platform, Warlock/Bullseye Laptops have a mono DMIC, Cyborg and some Warlock variants uses a stereo DMIC. They are not correctly mapped to the corresponding configurations so the microphone function are not working as expected. [Fix] Cirrus upstream new FIXUPs to support different microphone configurations on different Dell laptop variants. [Test Case] 1. Go to Audio Settings 2. Make sure the microphone is correctly detected and responds to audio input. 3. Issue command "arecord record_file" and check the record_file is consistent with audio input. [Where problems could occur] Risk should be Low. The patches come from Cirrus and the configurations are mapped based on the audio codec's SSIDs for different Dell variants. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: In Progress ** Affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: In Progress ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: In Progress ** Affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1967988 Title: Support different Cirrus audio codec configurations on Dell laptops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1967988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Note 1: "cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/type" should read "acpitz" - This is EC-Lite's thermal zone Note 2: You can stress the CPU and read temp again to see a change. For stressing the CPU, you can use Checkbox itself. Eg Checkbox command: cdts.checkbox-cli run com.canonical.certification::stress/cpu_stress_ng_test If a battery is connected - - /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 will be populated. eg. cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/present 1 cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status Discharging You can try to turn on/off FAN manually as well – Commands attached ** Attachment added: "Commands to turn on/off Fan" https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1929895/+attachment/5577487/+files/EClite-Fan-commands.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929895 Title: [EHL] Enable ISHTP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1929895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also your kernel log shows the 'qxl' DRM kernel driver seems to be working. And Xorg has clearly found the kernel qxl device. [Bug 1956315] Re: vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests failed (FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50))
** Description changed: [Impact] vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests will fail with: FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50) It's a test for commit afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value on nested VM-Exit" According to Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer’s Manual, L1's LDTR should be 0 after an emulated VM-exit from L2. [Fix] - * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value - on nested VM-Exit" + * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value on nested VM-Exit" We already have this patch in Jammy. - This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But some - straightforward backport work is required for Bionic, as the code - snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to vmx/nested.c - (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files). + This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But backport is required for + Bionic, as the code snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to + vmx/nested.c (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files). [Test] Test kernels can be found here: https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1956315-vmx-ldtr/ Tested with: - * B (bare-metal) + * B (bare-metal / KVM instance) * F (KVM instance) - * I (KVM instance / bare-metal) + * I (bare-metal / KVM instance) With this patched kernel, this test will pass: PASS: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 0) Also tested with ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests and ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test to make sure this is not causing any other regressions. [Where problem could occur] If the patch is incorrect it might affect the nested KVM functionality while existing from L2 to L1. [Bug 1966786] Re: login screen shown twice with VirtualBox Guest Additions
BertN45: The only error that stands out to me in your log is that the vmwgfx kernel driver keeps logging: kernel: [drm:vmw_msg_ioctl [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to open channel. If that's the problem then it's a bug in the kernel (where the vmwgfx driver lives) and/or the hypervisor. [Bug 1960449] Re: Backport container stack in Jammy
So, I'm a little confused about the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DockerUpdates policy here, specifically when it states “The aim is to backport the .1 release of a major version…” and the upload here is for runc 1.1.0. Is the claim here that 1.1.0 vs 1.0.1 is not a major version release? Is the policy outdated?
