[Bug 1970292] Re: ubuntu failed upgrade from 21.10 to 22.04

2022-04-26 Thread Brian Murray
Reviewing the log file, /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, from your
upgrade attempt there was a failure to communicate with the mirror of
the Ubuntu archive which you use. This could either be due to an issue
with your connection to the mirror or with the mirror itself.
Regardless, this is an issue you'll need to sort out by fixing your
network connection or switching to a different mirror of the Ubuntu
archive before the upgrade can complete. If after resolving the
communication error with the mirror you are still unable to upgrade to a
new release of Ubuntu please open a new bug report so we'll have fresh
log files. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1970018] Re: Cannot upgrade to ubuntu 21.10 from ubuntu 20.04.

2022-04-26 Thread Brian Murray
It is not sufficient to just disable the "Other software" as you will
still have package version from other repositories, like the deadsnakes
PPA, which may provide package versions greater than the release to
which you are upgrading. Subsequently, you'll need to reenable the other
software sources and then use the tool ppa-purge to remove packages from
PPAs.

[Bug 1970076] Re: "User process fault: interruption code 0011 ilc:3" on SSH client/server upon Jammy upgrade

2022-04-26 Thread Ryan Finnie
I only have one s390x guest and adding another would be painful due to
the slowness of its emulation :) but I have just tried removing all of
/etc/ssh and reinstalling openssh-client/openssh-server, same crash.

To be clear, this is only happening on my s390x guest. I have a few
other non-x86 qemu guests (arm64, ppc64el, riscv64, etc) which have also
been upgraded to jammy, none of which have this problem. So I'm willing
to bet this is more of a kernel or qemu problem and that openssh is just
a symptom. (Though it seems to be a recurring indicative symptom...
ISTR openssh segfaults during the bootstrap of riscv64 on qemu; William
Grant may be able to chime in.) I've attached my libvirt definition in
case it's relevant, but it's pretty standard.

[Bug 1965241] Re: Include DPC Fixes in Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04

2022-04-26 Thread Narendra K
Michael,

We tried the test kernel from comment #5. From the sanity tests, basic
functionality works as expected -

On a system where NVMe end point is connected to root port,

1. When an EDR event occurs, the link is contained and system does not crash.
2. The config space of NVMe end point device is restored.

The DPC functionality does not work as expected if CONFIG_PCIE_EDR is
not enabled.

Test Case:

1. Disable the memory space of NVMe end point device
2. Issue IO to the device
3. Observe dmesg. dmesg shows that EDR event is generated, link is contained
and NVMe device is recovered.

2. Observe the dmesg

[Bug 1970009] Re: unable to upgrade via commandline

[Bug 1970181] Re: Places status indicator does not work

2022-04-26 Thread José Marinho
jose@jose-pc:~$ gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions
['gpa...@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org',
'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'gsconn...@andyholmes.github.io', 'sound-output-device-choo...@kgshank.net',
'bluetooth-quick-conn...@bjarosze.gmail.com', 'lockkeys@fawtytoo',
'lockk...@vaina.lt', 'vbox-app...@gs.eros2.info']

But there are two extensions that are not installed on my system but I
installed it and removed in the past: lockkeys@fawtytoo and vbox-
app...@gs.eros2.info. I don't know why I get that output. The rest is
fine, except the fact that Ubuntu preinstalled extensions (Desktop
Icons, Ubuntu appindicators and Ubuntu dock) are not in the output.

So I have enabled:

- The three Ubuntu pre-installed extensions.
- This three extensions from the gnome-shell-extensions package:
  * Places Status Indicator
  * Gpaste
  * GSConnect.
- Three extensions installed from the new app gnomes-shell-extension-manager:
  * Bluetooth Quick Connect
  * Lock Keys (@vaina.lt)
  * Sound output input device chooser

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
YOu're welcome, that's the workaround for these cases.

Note that this exact issue was 'discussed' back in 2015 by the upstream
Debian team and they rejected changing it because IPv6 being disabled is
"non-standard", and a user/admin level decision at the endpoints of
things, so when anything 'non-standard' happens it needs to be handled
by those admins with workarounds.

[Bug 1743592] Re: NGINX fails to start/install/upgrade if IPv6 is completely disabled.

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
This is a pretty old issue but in Debian they made a decision to not
accomodate this back in 2015 for when IPv6 is disabled on systems on the
basis of "not only is it non-standard but it's nonsensical":

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=779825#97

The workaround for this is when dpkg or apt fail is to edit
/etc/nginx/sites-available/default, remove the IPv6 listen line, and then run
`apt install -f` - this can even be automated too. Automation tooling that is
not able to do this is the fault of the tooling.

I'm going to close this as 'won't fix' because there's really no actions
needed by the teams here. And this has sat without any activity for
over a year.

[Bug 1747499] Re: 98-reboot-required and Interaction with livepatch

2022-04-26 Thread Olivier Gayot
** Description changed:

+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * If a system is using canonical livepatch, has it enabled, and patches
+ are applied, it could be confusing for a user to receive a "system
+ restart required" messages in the MOTD when logging in.
+
+ * Livepatch is available on LTS releases. Thus, the users can be
+ confused following a kernel update on 20.04.
+
+ * The upload prevents update-notifier and unattended-ugprades hooks from
adding "system restart"-related messages to motd when Livepatch is enabled.
+ Livepatch, when enabled, already contributes to the motd message so there is
no need to have duplicate (and sometimes contradictory) information.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * how to reproduce the bug:
+
+1. Install and boot a 20.04 server VM
+2. Make sure it runs a generic kernel (or another flavour that supports
Livepatch)
+3. Enable Livepatch using the following command:
+$ ua attach # replace by an actual contract token
+4. Upgrade the kernel (if you are already running the latest available
kernel update, you can install a different flavour)
+5. Upon logging in again, the motd will show ***System restart required***.
+
+ * other testing appropriate to perform before landing this update:
+
+ * Making sure that the patch has no impact when livepatch is not enabled.
+ * The motd should show ***System restart required*** after upgrading the
kernel if livepatch is not enabled.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * The change updates a hook script in /etc/kernel/postinst.d/. Scripts
+ in this directory are executing when upgrading / installing a kernel. If
+ somehow the script is broken, it can prevent dpkg for succeeding when
+ upgrading / installing the kernel.
+
+ * If the implementation is wrong, we might end up "losing" the
+ ***System restart required*** message when livepatch is disabled
+
+ [Original bug description]
+
If a system is using canonical livepatch, has it enabled, and patches
are applied, it could be confusing for a user to receive a "system
restart required" messages in the MOTD when logging in.

That message, when present, is printed by 98-reboot-required which
essentially just cats /var/run/reboot-required to stdout. That file is
placed by packages that require a reboot so that they are properly used
in their updated versions. Examples that come to mind are libc and the
  kernel.

There is a secondary file that can be created which says which packages
requested the reboot. That would be /var/run/reboot-required.pkgs

Ideally that script should not print out the reboot required message if
  a) livepatch is installed and enabled; b) the only trigger for the
  reboot is a kernel update.

For (a), one can use the command "ubuntu-advantage is-livepatch-enabled"
and check $?. That is in the ubuntu-advantage-tools package.

[Bug 1950914] Re: [daily jammy-live-server-amd64] Hangs at start of VM installation

2022-04-26 Thread Dan Bungert
I can reproduce this as written using Focal as the host and the 22.04
live-server iso.
If I remove the "--video=vmvga" it actually boots, and an install completed
without issue.
This doesn't seem Subiquity specific, however.

Hello Simon,

Thanks again your attention.

I had altered the default nginx vhost definition to use `0.0.0.0:80`
because enabling IPv6 in this VPS is not suitable.

After it tried to reinstall nginx, and it run without any messages.

Checked the nginx configuration and started the nginx service - it
started to run normally.

Thanks the suggestion.

[Bug 1970455] [NEW] AppArmor profile prevents DNS Servers from being added to resolv.conf

2022-04-26 Thread Sebastian Wild
Public bug reported:

Currently the AppArmor profile for strongswan prevents vpn connections that use
ipsec mode config from adding dns settings the client gets from the vpn gateway
to the /etc/resolv.conf.
This is because it has the settings for resolving but this is only readonly. It
is missing the write permission to /etc/resolv.conf.
This is an old bug that was reported on debian in 2018 already:
https://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg1645350.html

One can fix it by adding the required line to the apparmor profile and
restart apparmor afterwards.

I know there is other solutions like modifying network-manager config to
not overwrite resolv.conf or using the resolvonf package and I did try
various but none of them worked like it was supposed to. It didn't add
DNS server at all or caused major delays in dns resolving.

With modified apparmor profile it works like a charm here now.

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Thomas Ward
CentOS uses completely different packaging than Debian. The problem
here is that the Debian and Ubuntu developers of NGINX decided to
support "the most common setups" - the Debian and thus Ubuntu default
configurations ship both IPv4 and IPv6 support. You can fix this by
changing the `/etc/nginx/sites-available/default` listener and remove
the IPv6 line and then running `apt install -f` and it should properly
finish configuring it.

Remember this: When comparing Debian/Ubuntu to non-Debian/Ubuntu **the
packages are different and wildly so** so you cannot compare CentOS to
Debian/Ubuntu and vice versa for 'default functionality'.

[Bug 1970454] [NEW] Add Ubuntu Kinetic as a known release

Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Without this update users cannot generate kinetic chroots for
development.

[Test Case]

Attempt to debootstrap kinetic.

[Where problems could occur]

Nowhere really, this simply introduces a suite specific script which is
not used unless you attempt to create and Ubuntu Kinetic chroot.

2022-04-26 Thread Jeff Lane
Also, per your Comment #10 you have gone from teh ISO to PXE booting
which are two different things... Have you tried this in MAAS? Does
MAAS see the IB devices when commissioning, and can you deploy using the
IB device to PXE via MAAS?

** Description changed:

+ SUMMARY: Jammy ISO is not loading ib_iboip module when a system contains
+ an Infiniband device. Also the ISO is missing the rdma-core stack that

[Bug 1946773] Re: "An error occurred. Press enter to start a shell"

2022-04-26 Thread dann frazier
I wonder if there is some scope creep in this bug. The bug I filed has
this symptom:

-
Ubuntu 21.10 ubuntu-server ttyAMA0

connecting...
waiting for cloud-init...
An error occurred. Press enter to start a shell
-

And that should be fix committed if I understand comment #13 correctly
(possibly commit 05f3db94a?). Is this the symptom you are seeing
@zhouling12, meaning the fix maybe incomplete, or are you seeing some
other issue also correlated w/ slow/BMC-emulated media?

Fix setting table monitoring conditions

After the monitor_cond_since/update3 support patch in ovs
(46d44cf3be0), directly setting table.condition is broken. This
isn't something that was every truly supported. Prior to that
patch, using Idl.cond_change() before a connection was made
did not work, but after that patch it does.

This patch uses the old behavior when the OVS library does not
have the ConditionState object, and uses cond_change() otherwise.

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Holbok István
Hello Simon,

Thanks for the attention. What is your opinion about this:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of nginx:
 nginx depends on nginx-core (<< 1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3.1~) | nginx-full (<<
1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3.1~) | nginx-light (<< 1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3.1~) | nginx-extras
(<< 1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3.1~); however:
Package nginx-core is not configured yet.
  Package nginx-full is not installed.
  Package nginx-light is not installed.
  Package nginx-extras is not installed.
 nginx depends on nginx-core (>= 1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3) | nginx-full (>=

1.18.0-0ubuntu1.3); however:

  Package nginx-light is not installed.
  Package nginx-extras is not installed.

dpkg: error processing package nginx (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

The package configuration process is before the service start. The IPv6
disabled is - by my opinion - is not a cause. I have similar VPS with
Centos 7 and NGINX can be installed without any problem.

what would probably be useful in this thread if someone would post the
output of ex.

xfreerdp /v: /log-level:debug

I know we are talk about remmina here, but it would be very strange if
xfreerdp works and remmina doesn't.

For me before applying this patch the relevant last lines where

[Bug 1970451] [NEW] Update to the 510.68.02 UDA NVIDIA driver series in Bionic, Focal, Impish, and Jammy

2022-04-26 Thread Ian May
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to
make sure all of our users have access to these improvements.

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

[Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

[Bug 1958770] Re: Aquantia GbE LAN driver causes UBSAN error during kernel boot

2022-04-26 Thread bsdz
Just a couple of other suggestions.

You can generate a patch file from the upstream kernel repo. eg

cd linux-jammy
curl
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8d3a6c37d50d5a0504c126c932cc749e6dd9c78f.patch
 -o ./atlantic.patch
git diff
git apply ./atlantic.patch
git diff

I was wrong about printf. You need to use printk

printk(KERN_INFO "HERE!\n");

I expect printk just will work although you might need to "#include
"

Fix setting table monitoring conditions

After the monitor_cond_since/update3 support patch in ovs
(46d44cf3be0), directly setting table.condition is broken. This
isn't something that was every truly supported. Prior to that
patch, using Idl.cond_change() before a connection was made
did not work, but after that patch it does.

This patch uses the old behavior when the OVS library does not
have the ConditionState object, and uses cond_change() otherwise.

[Bug 1970424] Re: firefox snap can not open any file dialogs

2022-04-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
ubuntu-desktop-minimal Recommends xdg-desktop-portal-gnome and
Recommends are installed by default.

If you intentionally don't install Recommends, then your system will
have bugs like this.

But we can look at making the dependency stronger.

** Summary changed:

- firefox snap can not open any file dialogs

** Description changed:

+ I propose having ubuntu-desktop-minimal depend on
+ xdg-desktop-portal-gnome | xdg-desktop-portal-backend
+
+ Currently, there is only a Recommends on xdg-desktop-portal-gnome.
+
+ If a system doesn't have that dependency installed, then desktop snaps
+ including our critical Firefox and Chromium snaps have severe missing
+ functionality.
+
+ Original Bug Report
+ ---
With ubuntu 22.04 firefox comes as snap package by default.

it is not possible to open any file dialog. save graphics as, save html
page, import certificate never opens a file dialog.

firefox is completly useless without that file dialog.

(the root case is ubuntu uses snap)

further: in snap store firefox has no icon and it's called firefox not
  "Firefox".

[Bug 1970445] [NEW] Browser Save Dialog - Save button does become disabled when switching to a (sub)directory

2022-04-26 Thread Daniel R
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1969622 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969622

Public bug reported:

When pressing save on a browser, the save dialog opens.
You can press save in the current (last) directory. The button is enabled and
NOT grayed out.

If for example there is a ~/Downloads/test directory, switching to the
test directory does disable the save button.

Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Release:22.04

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:42.0-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:42.0-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1:42.0-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What you expected to happen
When saving a file from a browser; i expect to be able to select a different
already existing directory as save location and save the file in that directory.

What happened instead
When switching to directory during the download promt, the save button becomes
disabled.

Workaround
When the save is blocked - add and a remove a space to the filename pending.
That does reenable the save.
This is NOT an issue for directories created within the download promt.

[Bug 1970401] [NEW] Gnome screen recorder don`t start or not installed on 22.04

2022-04-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Problem: Gnome screen recorder dont start. If I use Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R
nothing happens.
If I use PrintScrn , screenshot and screen-recorder appears. screenshot works,
but screen recorder not, only for half a second appear on top bar the red 00:00
but disappears without recording.
I thought its problem of zero screencast-length but its not that, because on
dconf there is not
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.max-screencast-length
also on gsettings, for example if I command
$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys
max-screencast-length 300
No such key “max-screencast-length”

It looks to me that screencast is not installed(?)
or something conflicts?

[Bug 1970424] Re: firefox snap can not open any file dialogs

2022-04-26 Thread Matthias Haschka
You are right. The package was not installed. Now it works.

I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop, minimal. Maybe the package xdg-
desktop-portal-gnome is missing for that mode, but should be installed
by default.

I apologize for the comment about snap.

This fixes also a problem with google chrome. Chrome freezes after
closing a file dialog without that package installed.

I'm very happy with the quick help. Thank you very much.

adding the package xserver-xorg-input-libinput appears to have solved

[Bug 1970390] Re: nginx install error on Ubuntu 20.04.04 LTS

2022-04-26 Thread Simon Déziel
Hello Holbok,

It looks like your system is booted with `ipv6.disable=1`:

Apr 26 08:28:53 kvmf kernel: [0.00] Command line:
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.4.0-109-generic
root=UUID=a5928baa-1a87-4f79-88a2-eab3489fdea1 ro net.ifnames=0
biosdevname=0 ipv6.disable=1 maybe-ubiquity ipv6.disable=1

Which prevents nginx from binding to `[::]:80`:

Apr 26 09:11:53 kvmf nginx[1641]: nginx: [emerg] socket() [::]:80 failed
(97: Address family not supported by protocol)

You could alter the vhost definition to use `0.0.0.0:80` instead or re-
enable IPv6.

Since this problem is due to a local configuration (disabling IPv6) and
not a package issue, I'll mark the bug as invalid.
