[Bug 1970408] [NEW] brltty package disconnecting ttyUSB0 used for Arduino

2022-04-26 Thread Batwam
Public bug reported:

Hello

I connected an ESP8266 microcontroller to my pc to use with Arduino.
However, the interface didn't appears to list ttyUSB0. Upon inspection
with dmesg, I noticed that the device is recognised but then brltty
appears to disconnect it.

This also appears to have happended to other people:

connection-immediately-in-new-linux-kernel-4-12-14

Once the brltty package is removed, the USB device mounts fine and
Arduino find it (same dmesg as above, without the last 3 lines).

I'm actually not sure why this package is installed as I deleted it
without having to remove ubuntu-desktop.

[Bug 1970148] Re: Brave & Chrome browsers freezes on download and print to pdf

2022-04-26 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I cannot observe the problem described here when running the latest
stable version of google chrome in a fully up-to-date 22.04 VM.

Regardless, if this is a problem that happens in brave or Google Chrome,
it should be reported to the upstream projects. See
https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018228951-How-do-I-
submit-a-bug-report- and

Please let us know if the problem also affects the chromium package
maintained by Ubuntu Developers.

[Bug 1951832] Re: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy

2022-04-26 Thread Adrian Wilkins
More of a meta comment :

If Ubuntu wishes to be taken seriously as a professional workstation OS
(as I'm sure it will do, with an impending IPO next year), issues
blocking VPN connectivity - especially to the Usual Suspect endpoints
like L2TP (which will cover anyone using e.g. Azure for their corporate
VPN) - need to be considered far more important.

This issue was reported four months ago and will block Azure VPN
connections from 22.04 until it's fixed (in the absence of workarounds),
which means that many users would be unable to do their job, but has yet
to be marked with an importance other than "Undecided".

As an engineer who believes strongly that Linux has a place among his
co-workers, it gets increasingly hard to justify this to operations when
their compliance requirements (like connecting to VPNs) cannot be met
out of the box.

L2TP is, yes, a Microsoft thing. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be
taking it seriously - quite the opposite, as that means it forms a
substantial minority of VPN endpoints out there.

Hackarounds like manually installing old package versions or alternative
VPN clients [1] do not inspire confidence.

I know that the maintainers are absolutely doing their best within the
constraints they are operating in, this comment is more directed at
Canonical, in the hope that they can understand this is a part of the
distro that needs to be tested and supported more rigorously.

[Bug 1970401] [NEW] Gnome screen recorder don`t start or not installed on 22.04

2022-04-26 Thread rizitis
Public bug reported:

Problem: Gnome screen recorder dont start. If I use Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R
nothing happens.
If I use PrintScrn , screenshot and screen-recorder appears. screenshot works,
but screen recorder not, only for half a second appear on top bar the red 00:00
but disappears without recording.
I thought its problem of zero screencast-length but its not that, because on
dconf there is not
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.max-screencast-length
also on gsettings, for example if I command
$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys
max-screencast-length 300
No such key “max-screencast-length”

It looks to me that screencast is not installed(?)
or something conflicts?

[Bug 1970270] Re: LibreOffice localization is not working out of the box

2022-04-26 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
Looks like you found it. Ubuntu 22.04 desktop-default-languages points
to a number of other seed files (or at least I think they're seed files)
such as "desktop-de" and the like. In the Languages folder of
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-
archive/seeds/ubuntu.jammy/languages/desktop-de, there's quite a bit of
LibreOffice related stuff, including the l10n package.

On the other hand, doing a search for "l10n" in
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/seeds/lubuntu.jammy/desktop
only shows up qttranslations5-l10n. So if I'm understanding correctly,
we're only providing localization for QT5 applications.

Even if we make the seeds install other common languages, any languages
we don't include still won't work, so we may need a deeper fix than just
adding some packages to the seeds. According to Bug #1520278, ubiquity
on Ubuntu < 16.04 was able to install languages on demand, so I'm
wondering if calamares provides any similar feature.

[Bug 1970396] [NEW] freecad pivy dependency broken python 3.10

2022-04-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
Public bug reported:

Freecad does not load workbenches like draft and others in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
with Python3 as default.
Ubuntu 22.04 has python 3.10 and it appears there is a breaking change there:

https://groups.google.com/g/linux.debian.bugs.dist/c/77OUZs8MJNs?pli=1

The error that is thrown is :

Expect to happen : loading draft workbench, no error.
Also happens when enabling raster, the raster does not load.

The above link show this issue to be fixed :
https://github.com/coin3d/pivy/pull/91 and tracked upsgream at
https://github.com/coin3d/pivy/issues/88
so likely just needs a freecad upgrade here.

[Bug 1970392] [NEW] 22.04 USB devices do not work after sleep on Dell XPS 13 9370

2022-04-26 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell XPS 13 9370 that came with Ubuntu preinstalled. I have
just completed a fresh install of 22.04 on it.

When I suspend the laptop, the USB devices that were plugged in when I
suspended do not work. Specifically, I had an Ethernet adapter and a
USB-C monitor with a keyboard attached through it. The monitor display
works as expected, but neither the keyboard nor the Ethernet adapter
work after suspending.

Interestingly, I can move the Ethernet adapter to the remaining USB-C
port and it works correctly. Moving it back afterwards, it still does
not work.

Please let me know if there is anything more I can do to help.

[Bug 1964487] Re: __asan_default_options not working with -shared-libasan

2022-04-26 Thread Jonas Hahnfeld
** Description changed:

When using the shared libclang_rt.asan-x86_64.so, __asan_default_options
aren't working. Consider the following example:

- $ cat test_asan.c
+  $ cat test_asan.c
  const char *__asan_default_options() {
-   return "help=1";
+   return "help=1";
  }

  int main() { return 0; }
- $ clang -fsanitize=address -shared-libasan test_asan.c -o

- $
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/llvm-10/lib/clang/10.0.0/lib/linux/libclang_rt.asan-x86_64.so

test_asan.clang.shared.x
+  $
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/llvm-10/lib/clang/10.0.0/lib/linux/libclang_rt.asan-x86_64.so
 ./test_asan.clang.shared.x
  [no output]

- The expected behavior would be:
- $ clang -fsanitize=address -static-libsan test_asan.c -o
test_asan.clang.static.x
- $ ./test_asan.clang.static.x |& head
+ The expected behavior would be the same as you get with:
+  $ clang -fsanitize=address -static-libsan test_asan.c -o
test_asan.clang.static.x
+  $ ./test_asan.clang.static.x |& head

In theory, using native Wayland apps instead should avoid the problem.
For Firefox you can do that with:

[Bug 1970389] [NEW] [nvidia] Janky text entry in some applications in a GNOME / Wayland session

2022-04-26 Thread Matias Piipari
Public bug reported:

When writing into text fields in some applications (Firefox, VS Code) on
Jammy in a GNOME / Wayland session, I can see an effect best described
as the glyphs appearing / disappearing sometimes repeatedly. I have
attached a recording from my phone (since attempting to record a
screencast fails).

This doesn't happen always, and it appear somehow sensitive to some
environmental condition (load?) since for example when I'm on a video
call, the effect seems to not be happening so often.

I have also experienced a few instances of a currently not-focused
window disappearing (seeing through to a window that is below that
window), but cannot reproduce that reliably.

I have the NVIDIA driver 510 in use, RTX3090-only 16-core Zen1
Threadripper system with no integrated GPU.

No similar effects visible when in a GNOME / Xorg session.

[Bug 1970107] Re: [nouveau] Xorg crash / Graphics Issue

2022-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When you are returned to the login screen, does Ctrl+Alt+F2 fix it? If
not then:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1970107] Re: Xorg crash / Graphics Issue

2022-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

The white screen problem is bug 1965882. But there are more reasons to
avoid the 'nouveau' driver and it's probably the cause of your other
issues too. Please open the 'Additional Drivers' app and install the
official Nvidia driver with that.

[Bug 1970072] Re: Frequent GPU Resets (and GUI Freeze) by gsd-media-keys

2022-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the GUI freezes but the cursor still moves then it's the gnome-shell
process that's frozen while Xorg is not frozen. Although gnome-shell may
become frozen by kernel or hardware problems, not just its own bugs.

Next time the problem happens, please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt
   lspci -k > lspci.txt

4. Attach the resulting text files here.

5. Check for crashes using these instructions:

[Bug 1970386] [NEW] Remmina toolbar does not hide in RDP session

2022-04-26 Thread MainframeX
Public bug reported:

Remmina's toolbar does not autohide anymore when in fullscreen RDP
session. I have to interact with the toolbar before it hides again.
Normal behavior under Ubuntu 20.04 was that the toolbar automatically
hides when there's no longer a mouseover event.

OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Package version: remmina 1.4.25+dfsg-1

What I expect to happen: Remmina toolbar hides automatically when there
is no mouseover event.

What happened instead: Remmina toolbar does not hide and is displayed
over my other applications.

If there's anything I can do the help, please let me know!

[Bug 1624485] Re: Nettle: Enable AES-NI instructions on amd64.

2022-04-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Indeed (thanks Richard) that is enabled since 3.6-1.

It is unlikely though due to the associated symbol changes (see e.g. the
old changelogs) that this can be provided as an SRU for older releases.
I'm not saying impossible, just unlikely as that evaluation has to be
done and checked in depth for potential side-effects in regard to an
SRU.

This is horrible I have to say not sure if this is the right bug report for

[Bug 1969428] Please test proposed package

2022-04-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Andy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-control-center into focal-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-
center/1:3.36.5-0ubuntu4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,

Sounds like bug 938751. Please try:

Settings > Colour > YOUR MONITOR = OFF

and then restart any affected apps. Or is the shell also affected?

"readconf.c:read_config_file_depth" in there. Does the same happen on a
fresh Jammy guest that has all-default config files? Or only to this

[Bug 1970076] Re: "User process fault: interruption code 0011 ilc:3" on SSH client/server upon Jammy upgrade

2022-04-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
for comparison on another system I've taken a Host (was impish before upgrade)
and created guests with Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Jammy.
All worked fine at this stage - ssh login and health of guests/hosts was good.
Then I upgraded the Host to Jammy (as the reporter did).

Example of the simple tests made:
#log into jammy, from there log into focal
ssh -t ubuntu@192.168.122.177 "ssh ubuntu@192.168.122.39"
#log into focal, from there log into jammy
ssh -t ubuntu@192.168.122.39 "ssh ubuntu@192.168.122.177"

=> That was all fine initially (impish)
=> That was all still fine after the upgrade to jammy
=> And it was still fine after restarting the guests (to use the new qemu)

So it can't be reproduced easily, this would need to go into analyzing
the ssh crash dump file that is attached.

@Ryan - if you have any further insight on how/why your config might be
special let us know.

[Bug 1970148] Re: Brave & Chrome browsers freezes on download and print to pdf

2022-04-26 Thread Lin Sun
I am on Ubuntu 22.04.

It also freezes my Google chrome browser(Version 100.0.4896.127), if I
try to upload any file from local. The page and the window become
unresponsive. But I can create new window or close the browser using
right click menu from the GNOME on the top and right sidebar.
