[Bug 1970807] Re: Incompatible graphmath.ppu unit

2022-04-28 Thread Paul Gevers
I'm not sure how useful this info is, but I just compiled Form1 on
Debian (bookworm) and I don't see any issues.

@ginggs, Ubuntu applied one patch, do you think that may be related?

[Bug 1970141] Re: [focal] Desktop is mostly covered by a black rectangle

2022-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, now we just need to figure out who owns window 0x203.

Assuming you haven't logged out yet, please run:

  xrestop -b > xrestop.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

You should also be able to find out which process owns the black window
with:

  xprop -id 0x203 | grep _NET_WM_PID

[Bug 1970655] Re: ubuntu 22.04 fails connecting to a rdp server through a rdp gateway

2022-04-28 Thread msaxl
I've build a package that includes the fix mentioned above in
ppa:saxl/freerdp

if someone can test if it works

note however that a 2008r2 gateway probably fails with
ERRCONNECT_TLS_CONNECT_FAILED since openssl3.0 is not compatible with
2008r2 on tls seclevel 1 anymore (#1954970).

[Bug 1970871] [NEW] Misbehaving context menu in autohide dock mode

2022-04-28 Thread Jan Morten Rausch
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

Configure Ubuntu-dock to be a dock with auto hide enabled. Also move it
to the lower edge of the screen. Have any application overlapping with
the dock for triggering the auto hide.

Move mouse to lower screen edge to show dock, then right click on any
application icon, open the apps context menu and move the cursor up to
any of the context menu entry and click it.

What happens:
As soon as you click at a context menu item, the dock auto hides and the whole
context menu window moves down and aligns with the lower edge of the screen
which leads to selecting a wrong menu item above the selected one.
Reproducible. Does not happen if no overlapping window triggers the dock to
hide.

What should happen:
The context menu shouldn't move at all while the cursor is interacting with it.

[Bug 1970072] Re: [nvidia] Frequent GPU Resets (and GUI Freeze) by gsd-media-keys

2022-04-28 Thread ebsf
I've already disabled the .timer units for the Pomodoro sounds.

I'll investigate the kernel angle.

Here's an odd angle: Could this be a Vulkan issue? I picked up on a
thread that pre-Haswell GPUs and integrated CPUs may have trouble
implementing Vulkan. Graphics are discrete but my CPU is a Xeon
E5-2609v2 (Ivy Bridge). The original manifestation of the GUI hang was
xorg locking up one of my CPU cores. That was with driver 390, and the
original thread was being addressed at VMware, with the fix being
disable or reconfigure Vulkan or its timeout. See
https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/VM-
Crash-16-2-1-build-18811642/m-p/2906574/emcs_t/S2h8ZW1haWx8dG9waWNfc3Vic2NyaXB0aW9ufEwySlVMWUVLSzRSU0VNfDI5MDY1NzR8U1VCU0NSSVBUSU9OU3xoSw#M175498

The CPU lockup was seen in the Nvidia forums as a matter of CPU offload
that shouldn't have happened (overaggressive power management couldn't
up-cycle the GPU before a rendering timeout offloaded to the CPU).
Maybe the CPU lockup in my case wasn't because of the offload per se,
but that the CPU's architecture didn't fully support the Vulkan-mode
rendering being offloaded to it.

While this was being run down, my PSU failed, taking my HDDs with it
(yay backups!). Whereas driver 390 was all that could get 20.04 running
in 2020, driver 470 worked better with 20.04.4 last month and the CPU
lockups ceased, if not the GUI freezes. Not a surprise that CPU
offloading was better handled in 470 two years later, but perhaps Vulkan
is still baked into the pie and my CPU's response to it is still
throwing things off.

I'll note there are null characters being thrown about, and random
division errors, not to mention occasional invalid packets. These
suggest a wrench still in the works. Thoughts?

[Bug 1970858] [NEW] Calendar and online account without function

2022-04-28 Thread knoedel fan
Public bug reported:

Although the calendar can be accessed, it is not possible to link it to
an online account. The selection for online account does exist, but it
does not feature. Setting up with the Google Calendar is therefore
impossible.

[Bug 1939347] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze since kernel 5.11

2022-04-28 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
Hi,

2. add "i915.enable_guc=3" to CMD line
3. Install/ Upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04
4. Use stock kernel 5.15 kernel from Ubuntu 22.04

This 2-4 is really needed?

For example, you remove "i915.enable_guc=3" from CMD line, you can
reproduce this bug?

[Bug 1970072] Re: [nvidia] Frequent GPU Resets (and GUI Freeze) by gsd-media-keys

2022-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Lots of points there:

* The Nvidia GT 1030 is only around $100 if you shop around, but
certainly don't spend any money unless you can afford it and really need
to. I only suggested it because that's the cheapest way to get to
Nvidia's latest 510 driver series, which may solve some bugs.

* You don't need to compile any kernels. Just download the pre-compiled
packages from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.17.5/amd64/

* sox, pulseaudio, or any other high level sound issues are not directly
relevant. What is relevant is to try with *nothing* playing sound so as
to eliminate the possibility of the kernel sound modules being busy.

* gsd-color[5002]: no xrandr-DVI-I-0 device found: Failed to find output
xrandr-DVI-I-0 does not appear to be relevant.

* Fprint / Fingerprint log messages are normal and not relevant.

* Window manager warning: Overwriting existing binding is bug 1857392,
also not relevant here.

I think the next steps are:

 (a) test without any sound playing, particularly no web browser open;
and

 (b) try a newer kernel like https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.17.5/amd64/

[Bug 1970072] Re: [nvidia] Frequent GPU Resets (and GUI Freeze) by gsd-media-keys

2022-04-28 Thread ebsf
Thanks for the thoughts.

I've got enough clutter around not to need to spend several hundred
dollars for a test card.

I also have no idea how to compile a new kernel, but do know that my
being asked that confirms someone goofed.

Anyway, maybe something else is afoot. Some noodles, please let me know
what you think:

For starters: I've noticed that sox fails periodically. I've got a
couple of scripts that play a brief OGG system sound every half hour,
one on the hour, one five minutes before, to pace my day. Actually, the
first is set for 3 seconds later than 00, to avoid conflicts. A .timer
triggers a .service, which runs a one-line shell script that calls play
(a sox command).

This works until it doesn't, whereupon there are error logs, as follows
(others that differ are further down ...). (What exactly starts
tripping it up?):

Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone systemd[1]: Starting Play sounds | pomo-in.service...
Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone bash[31026]: DIRFILE is
/srv/greystone-data/users/eric/data/computer/media/sounds/chirps-notes/service-login.oga.
Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone bash[31027]: ALSA lib

Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone kernel: traps: play[31027] trap divide error
ip:7ff27953a37a sp:7ffc76cb7fa0 error:0 in libsox_fmt_ao.so[7ff27953a000+1000]
Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone bash[31026]: /home/locsh/pomo-in.sh: line 38: 31027
Floating point exception(core dumped) play $DIR$FILE
Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone systemd[1]: pomo-in.service: Main process exited,
code=exited, status=136/n/a
Apr 27 19:00:03 greystone systemd[1]: pomo-in.service: Failed with result
'exit-code'.

Perhaps these offer some clues.

Separately, xrandr-related message storms crop up (revise xorg.conf?):

Apr 27 19:00:35 greystone gsd-color[5002]: no xrandr-DVI-I-0 device
found: Failed to find output xrandr-DVI-I-0

Another weird one (no such device exists):

Apr 27 19:15:32 greystone dbus-daemon[1033]: [system] Activating via systemd:
service name='net.reactivated.Fprint' unit='fprintd.service' requested by

service 'net.reactivated.Fprint'
Apr 27 19:15:33 greystone systemd[1]: Started Fingerprint Authentication Daemon.

Then (who/what is doing this, and why?):

Apr 27 19:15:35 greystone gnome-shell[4878]: Window manager warning:
Overwriting existing binding of keysym 31 with keysym 31 (keycode a).
Apr 27 19:15:35 greystone gnome-shell[4878]: Window manager warning:

Apr 27 19:15:35 greystone gnome-shell[4878]: Window manager warning:

Then, lots of these, followed by iptables reporting a bunch of outbound
UDP/443 drops (who's the second user?):

Apr 27 19:16:16 greystone rtkit-daemon[1645]: Supervising 5 threads of 3
processes of 2 users.

The pulseaudio storms follow this, which I really don't follow (a socket
client? Doing what?):

Apr 27 19:17:07 greystone pulseaudio[4650]: Created 15 "Native client

Then, a storm of samba login attempts for five minutes, God knows how or
from where because this is walled off, e.g.,

[Bug 1965882] Re: [nouveau] External monitor plugged into (secondary) Nvidia GPU is all white (plus a little flicker)

The change that caused this bug is the newer kernel in Ubuntu 22.04. Not
anything we did directly to affect nouveau, we just seem to have
inherited a new nouveau bug. Older kernels do not have the bug.

[Bug 1970819] [NEW] 5.15 pc-kernel uc22 snap fails to load bluetooth Intel firmware file intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi

2022-04-28 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

When testing the beta image for uc22 on an Intel NUC, I noticed that bluetooth
was not working. This NUC has worked for bluetooth tests on uc18, 20, and even
on jammy. However on uc22, we see this in dmesg:
[ 11.954649] Bluetooth: hci0: Minimum firmware build 1 week 10 2014
[ 11.962817] Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to load Intel firmware file
intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi (-2)
[ 11.966951] Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to read MSFT supported features (-56)

Here's the full dmesg with grep -i blue:
https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/99KvzHY4n9/

On Jammy, for comparison, the firmware gets loaded and bluetoothctl can see
nearby devices:
[5.650860] Bluetooth: hci0: Minimum firmware build 1 week 10 2014
[5.653214] Bluetooth: hci0: Found device firmware: intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi

[Bug 1965882] Re: [nouveau] External monitor plugged into (secondary) Nvidia GPU is all white (plus a little flicker)

2022-04-28 Thread Chris Monahan
I think what you are saying is that nouveau is not maintained by Ubuntu.
I am just curious if Ubuntu made a config changed that caused this
issue, or if it was an update to nouveau itself. I personally like
nouveau because it allows automatic graphics switching, and the last
time I tried the native Nvidia drivers, it ate a lot of battery.

[Bug 1969160] Re: mariadb [ERROR] mysqld got signal 6

2022-04-28 Thread Daniel Black
See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.6/+bug/1970634
as its the same problem.

While my 10.6.8-MariaDB-1:10.6 test above what built in an ubuntu-22.04
container, it quite possibly used different compile options than what
produces the packages. As the regions of code of the assertions haven't
changed from 10.6.7, 10.6.8 is unlikely to be a magic fix.

For the moment setting innodb_use_native_aio=0 will avoid the problem

[Bug 1970810] Re: Black screen/delayed response when waking after lock screen

2022-04-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1970810/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1968845] Re: Upgrade to 22.04 from 20.04 ends with dbus installation asking for a reboot

2022-04-28 Thread Brian Murray
I also did an upgrade from Focal to Jammy and recorded the upgrade
process using script and there was no long pause on dbus. I'll attach
both the timing file and recording.

One could watch the upgrade using `scriptreplay dist-upgrade-timing
dist-upgrade` and pass the `-d` argument if you don't want to watch it
in real time.

Note the runtime detection in innodb_use_native_aio_default affects the
default value only. Users can explicity set this and really on distros
to provide patched kernels.

[Bug 1828239] Re: Discover does updates without permission

2022-04-28 Thread James F.
I, for one, am no longer bothered by this. I have dropped the ISP I was
using when I began having a problem with this behavior. With my new ISP,
my connection speed is fast enough so that this would no longer be a
problem.

Also, since first reporting this, I have also updated to (a) more recent
version(s) of KUbuntu.

I don't know if others with slow connections are affected by this.

Actually create_linux_aio (tpool/aio_liburing.cc:194) should already
catch this exception. So compiler error?

[Bug 1970282] Re: Flatpak apps are not properly themed if a accent color other than the default is choosed

2022-04-28 Thread Santiago Fernández Núñez
I'm also seeing this. There are popular GNOME apps that recommend
installing them as Flatpak so it could generate some inconsistency.
Extension Manager is a full GTK 4 app and it doesn't respect the system
choice.

[Bug 1970731] Re: iptables empty when using firewalld

2022-04-28 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Reassigning to firewalld as the description mentions that ufw is
disabled.

This is not a bug though because iptables relies on certain
tables/chains being used and it looks like firewalld doesn't use those
(which is fine for firewalld to do). You should be able to see all
netfilter firewall rules with 'nft' but you'll only see rules that are
added to the (now non-default) tables/chains that iptables expects
(INPUT, OUTPUT, etc). More specifically, 'nft' will see the rules that
'iptables' creates but not necessarily the other way around.

** Package changed: ufw (Ubuntu) => firewalld (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: firewalld (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

[Bug 1970810] [NEW] Black screen/delayed response when waking after lock screen

2022-04-28 Thread DuckDuckWhale
Public bug reported:

After locking the screen and waiting for the displays to go dark, moving
the mouse pointer wakes both screens, but only the external monitor
shows the blurred desktop background. Moving the pointer to the
internal display results in the cursor showing on a dark background
until a key is pressed or some time passes. Without the external
display attached, sometimes it would wake normally, but sometimes the
screen simply stays dark, and all mouse movements or key presses elicit
no response. Only switching to TTY and back would allow the screen to
revert back to the cursor on black screen until key press situation.
Then, after logging in, plugging in the external monitor doesn't wake
the monitor. The laptop recognizes it and moves it as the primary
display, but the monitor doesn't get the HDMI signal. Relocking and
unlocking brings it back.

Not sure if this is related to the screen issue.

That is correct, the fix works, no miscompares while doing the test-case

[Bug 1970634] Re: FTBFS: mariadb fails to start due to low MEMLOCK limit

2022-04-28 Thread Daniel Black
From 5.12 kernel memory locked pages aren't needed -
https://github.com/axboe/liburing/issues/246#issuecomment-816965961.

In #1969160 I tested the upcoming 10.6 release (probably next week
sometime) for crashes in uring initialization failures and it didn't.
Apart from some error log differences from ENOMEM, ENOSYS etc are
handles the same way in the fallback.

I haven't quite concluded how the 10.6.7 release is crashing at the
moment.

With https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
hwe-5.13/+bug/195 I assume the jammy kernel 5.15.0 has the right
patches to make 5.15.0 safe despite the MariaDB code not distinguishing
it as so (suggestions of improving kernel version detection welcome).

[Bug 1970808] [NEW] Stuck on "Click or press any key" screen after resuming from suspend

2022-04-28 Thread Sam Magura
Public bug reported:

After suspending my PC, sometimes when I resume, I get stuck on the lock
screen which shows the current time and says "Click or press any key".
No matter which mouse button or key I press, the screen is frozen. The
mouse cursor is displayed but does not move.

It seems to occur more frequently when my computer has been suspended
for at least several hours. I would say this issue occurs about 50% of
the time (very roughly speaking).

Things I have tried which did not work:

- Unplugging and re-plugging in my mouse
- Turning my keyboard off and on again
- Ctrl+Alt+F2 through F6, in an attempt to get access to a TTY

This is on a fresh install of 22.04.

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network (e.g. eduroam)

2022-04-28 Thread Alex Reinking
I'm happy to say that the approach outlined in #22 worked for me. I used
the CipherString option in #36, too, but didn't try without. Glad I
found this thread.

The network in question is UC Berkeley's eduroam.
