[Bug 2055805] [NEW] tochpad do not working with kernel 6.8

2024-03-02 Thread Anton
Public bug reported:

After the standard update procedure and installation of a new version of the
kernel, the touchpad on the MacBook Pro 13 - 2014 stopped working. Even the
mouse cursor does not appear on the screen.
If you select the old kernel version 6.6 in the bootloader options, then
everything works correctly

Hello, I want to choosing best fonts from my collection in easy way.

There is not grouping or sorting by language , (I can see some sorting
in Open Office Writer - character ...)

I can not grouping them or selecting some of them to viewing & others to
hide in easy way !.

I can not know wich of them are working & wich are not working to
removing or fixing !.

Some Applications access to .fonts & change some of files (FireFox or

I can not view 0 as number , Not as O or o.

Some fonts can not displayed as before. I can not found package deb to
install all necessary package for Arabic fonts & English & Viewing 0.

Almost I use TrueType fonts were working in WindowsXP.

[Bug 2055799] Re: FFe: Switch Ubuntu Unity to using Calamares

2024-03-02 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
** Description changed:

Filing this under calamares-settings-ubuntu as this is where the
majority of the code will be.

Ubuntu Unity intends on moving away from the Ubiquity installer this
cycle. As discussed with team lead Rudra Saraswat on Matrix, the goal is
to move to the Calamares installer currently used by Lubuntu and
Kubuntu. (The Ubuntu Desktop Installer was considered but does not
appear to be Ubuntu Unity's intended installer at the moment.)

- It is the belief of the Lubuntu team (who are the primary maintainers of
- the Calmares package in Ubuntu at the moment) that this is a relatively
- safe change to make, as Kubuntu was able to be ported to using Calamares
- in a couple of days, and the remaining work was mainly due to
- development of brand new features (almost all of which will simply be
- ported to Ubuntu Unity rather than being created from scratch).
- Furthermore, Lubuntu has a thorough testing checklist for flavors that
- use Calamares, helping to catch both flavor-specific and Ubuntu-wide
- bugs in Calamares.
+ I believe this is relatively safe change to make, as I did the majority
+ of the work to port Calamares to Kubuntu, and it was able to be ported
+ to using Calamares in a couple of days. The remaining work was mainly
+ due to development of brand new features (almost all of which will

+ that use Calamares, helping to catch both flavor-specific and Ubuntu-
+ wide bugs in Calamares. This checklist is used regularly by Lubuntu for
+ every release, and would easily be applicable to Ubuntu Unity as well.

Upon completion, all existing Ubuntu Calamares features will be enabled
for Ubuntu Unity, including OEM installation mode, a try or install
screen with network and localization selection menus, and full disk
encryption with unencrypted /boot. This will require the following
  packages to be modified:

  * calamares-settings-ubuntu: Add config for Ubuntu Unity
  * ubuntu-unity-installer-prompt (which will be a NEW package): Port installer
prompt screen to Ubuntu Unity
  * casper: Automatically log into an ubuntu-unity-live-environment X session
to start the installer prompt screen, provide the installation icon on Ubuntu
Unity's desktop
  * debian-cd: Remove Ubiquity preseed, adjust GRUB menu entries to only
provide a "Try or Install Ubuntu Unity" entry, as the OEM installation mode
will be triggered from within the live environment rather than from the GRUB
menu

[Bug 2055455] Re: dnsmasq-base causes network device virbr0 to shut down

2024-03-02 Thread Box Noise
Your suggestion to limit bind will work for me.

I wasn't sure how to tell bind to not listen on an interface.
Bind defaults to:  listen-on { any; };

I modified /etc/bind/named.conf.options by adding the following line:
listen-on port 53 { 127.0.0.1; 192.168.2/24; };

This should restrict bind to localhost and my main network, and should
prevent it from attaching to the virbr0 interface.

After installing the current version of dnsmasq (2.90-0ubuntu0.22.04.1)
and rebooting, it looks like everything is working properly now.

Thanks for all the help with this issue!

[Bug 2055770] Re: AttributeError: module 'cloudinit.log' has no attribute 'getLogger'

2024-03-02 Thread Chad Smith
Thank you so much for filing the bug and making cloud-init better.

From the provided traceback, it looks like this is a private DataSourceUI that
isn't upstream in cloud-init importing getLogger from cloudinit.log which no
longer exists in our upstream repository as of commit
https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/commit/40bfa351c09a71d9cdcf036b201a62894c3acc84

Given that this module method was not used anymore by any upstream code
in cloud-init, we felt it best to purge unused methods to avoid ongoing
maintenance of functions that are not necessary for current cloud-init
to continue functioning.

My initial preliminary suggestion would be to have the team/person
developing DataSourceUI `import logging` module directly. Longer-term,
if the use-case for this datasource warrants it, it may be worth
discussing with the upstream team in the Libera.chat #cloud-init channal
about trying to upstream this dataasource to ensure changes in cloud-
init don't adversely affect private datasources.

Please let us know if either of these suggestions are not possible to
correct this traceback in your environment.

[Bug 2055455] Re: dnsmasq-base causes network device virbr0 to shut down

2024-03-02 Thread Marc Deslauriers
So, it looks like you are running bind on this machine, and bind is
listening on port 53 UDP:

udp0 0 192.168.122.1:530.0.0.0:*
1521/named

The old dnsmasq would ignore the error when it couldn't bind to a port,
but the new dnsmasq will fail if the port is already used, which makes
sense.

Perhaps you need to configure bind to not listen on the 192.168.122.1
interface...

2024-03-02 Thread Fabian Gasser
@alvinjinsung were you able to resolve this issue somehow by playing
around with the above mentioned suggestions? I'm experiencing the same
issue with my new Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 on Ubuntu 22.04 when using
the nvidia-driver-535 (proprietary, tested). When I switch back to the
open source driver the issue also again disappeared, but then my
external monitor isn't detected.

Release:
Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Release: 22.04

I am not sure exactly which package contains the bug, because these 11
packages upgrade together. The specific version diffs are shown above.

One thing I noticed is that this seems to be a fairly large version
increase (mesa 23.0.4 --> 23.2.1). If I could get all of the package
versions between these two, then

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2055788/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Good idea,

I've installed this on my host and it's still occurring on various VM
architectures (x86-64, ppc64el, s390x, ect). My host is noble and up to
date with updates.

[Bug 2055310] Re: dmesg spammed by virtui-fs and 9pnet-virtio messages

2024-03-02 Thread Andrea Righi
I haven't been able to reproduce this on my PC yet... Looking at the
error, especially the virtio-fs part, I'm wondering if you're missing
virtiofsd in your host. Can you try to `apt install virtiofsd` (if you
don't have it installed already)?

[Bug 2018449] Re: `xmms2 add --playlist ... ` causes a core dump

2024-03-02 Thread rew
Any progress on this???

I've tried to help by
- recompiling the sources for my system. Same problem.
- adding a debug statement: dpkg-buildpackage complains.
- I tried recompiling the sources left behind. They complain. Apparently dpkg
provides some required "environment".
- recompiling that way is slow: It always restarts at at the configure stage
and a clean build.
- I tried compiling the github stable sources. I can't get them to compile.
- I tried compileing the devel sources. I can't get them to compile.
- I tried running gdb on the binary built, but that one "has no symbols" so not
useful.

So after 3 hours of "trying to pinpoint the problem" I've made zero
progress and I'm giving up. Someone else will have to take a look. :-(

[Bug 2055455] Re: dnsmasq-base causes network device virbr0 to shut down

2024-03-02 Thread Box Noise
(Note: New bug #2055776 opened a couple hours ago that looks related to
this issue)

For the following answers to your queries, I used both the new and
previous versions of dnsmasq-base with identical results:

What's the contents of the /etc/dnsmasq.d directory?
There is a symbolic link in this dir: libvirt-daemon ->
/etc/dnsmasq.d-available/libvirt-daemon

sudo cat /etc/dnsmasq.d-available/libvirt-daemon

bind-interfaces
except-interface=virbr0

sudo cat /etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/default.xml

Out of curiosity, what is the contents of your /etc/dnsmasq.d directory?
Is there a symlink in there to /etc/dnsmasq.d-available/libvirt-daemon?

Could you try this with 1.0.1 or later, preferably 1.0.8. Hopefully it

[Bug 2055776] Re: After updating ubuntu, the network to which the subnet address is assigned does not become active in KVM.

2024-03-02 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for filing this bug, and the excellent analysis.

So it looks like the dnsmasq change was introduced here:
https://thekelleys.org.uk/gitweb/?p=dnsmasq.git;a=commit;h=744231d99505cdead314d13506b5ff8c44a13088

That was in response to this mailing list discussion:
https://lists.thekelleys.org.uk/pipermail/dnsmasq-discuss/2023q4/017333.html

I think we need to report this issue upstream, perhaps we can revert
that commit in the meantime.

Public bug reported:

This is from https://askubuntu.com/q/1506260/1004020 .

I'm using Rhythmbox 3.4.7 and as you can see on the picture bellow, there are
some Unnamed options on Rhythmbox's icon right-click menu:
I've tried to copy org.gnome.Rhythmbox.desktop and
org.gnome.Rhythmbox.device.desktop files data from Rhythmbox's GitLab to
/usr/share/applications (same .desktop files), but nothing has changed.
I guess that something is wrong with [Desktop Action ...] entries
I've found a solution. [Desktop Action ...] entries were missing the Name
properties

# What you expected to happen

There should not be any unnamed entries in the GNOME dock or left bar
when you right click for the context menu.
https://askubuntu.com/q/1506260/1004020

# What happened instead

The 4 unnamed entries appear in Ubuntu GNOME. Oddly they don't appear in
KDE, but this is a GNOME bug either way because Rhythmbox is made by
GNOME.

# Analysis

The self-answerer added names for the 4 desktop actions. This appeared
to fix the problem. However, the new names lack localization. One thing
is that the 4 actions will show all the time even if Rhythmbox is not
open. Based on the behaviour on KDE, I think that the GNOME developers'
original intent was to populate the 4 entries using the running
application and hide them otherwise.

[Bug 1944519] Re: Xubuntu shutdown prompt is missing

2024-03-02 Thread Michael Lueck
Beta testing Xubuntu Noble currently, this defect still is present when
shutting down the Live DVD image. I am testing in a VirtualBox VM
instance.

Why is taking so much time (so many releases) to finally resolve this?

[Bug 2052913] Re: Large Performance Regression in gnome-shell from Ubuntu Jammy to Ubuntu Noble

2024-03-02 Thread theofficialgman
I tested all of these:
  * gnome-extensions disable tiling-assist...@ubuntu.com
  * gnome-extensions disable ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com
  * gnome-extensions disable d...@rastersoft.com
  * gnome-extensions disable ubuntu-d...@ubuntu.com

and then had no effect on the performance on noble (yes they did disable
and I could see the visible changed in UI). I tried rebooting afterwards
with no improvement.

I did this:
You can test that theory by comparing the windowed performance between jammy
and noble.

noble performance is about equal with a maximized window and fullscreen
(140fps)

jammy performance is a bit lower maximized window than fullscreen
(162fps vs 177fps) but I see gnome-shell cpu usage at ~50% when when
maximized window (vs 0-1% in fullscreen)

so yeah definitely appears to be an issue with fullscreen direct scanout
not working and additionally just gnome performance regresssions with
windowed mode .
