[Bug 2062373] Re: 24.04 TPM backed FDE regression following shim 15.8 update

2024-05-27 Thread Gauthier Jolly
** Summary changed:

- 24.04 TPM backed FDE regression following snapd 2.62 update
+ 24.04 TPM backed FDE regression following shim 15.8 update

** Description changed:

  Azure testing has reported an issue following update of the nullboot
  package from 0.5.0-0ubuntu3 to 0.5.1-0ubuntu1 which I am informed
- included the vendoring of snapd 2.62.
+ included the vendoring of shim 15.8.

  This has caused a regression and TPM backed FDE instances no longer boot
  as expected.

[Bug 2064724] Re: Revert "crypto: api - Disallow identical driver names"

2024-05-27 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-xilinx-
zynqmp/5.15.0-1030.34 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please
test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is
solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-jammy-linux-xilinx-zynqmp'
to 'verification-done-jammy-linux-xilinx-zynqmp'. If the problem still
exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-jammy-linux-xilinx-zynqmp'
to 'verification-failed-jammy-linux-xilinx-zynqmp'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 2067332] Re: Gnome crash after sleep mode!

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only crashes I can see are related to barriers:

[  160.039193] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]:
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[  160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: Bail out!
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[ 160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 6

So the problem is likely a buggy extension. Probably one of these:

'extension-list@tu.berry', 'mediacontr...@cliffniff.github.com',
'vit...@corecoding.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com', 'apps-
m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'gtk4-d...@smedius.gitlab.com', 'shortc...@kyle.aims.ac.za', 'just-
perfection-desktop@just-perfection', 'wintile-bey...@grylledcheez.xyz',
'caffe...@patapon.info', 'hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca',
'windowsnaviga...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com'

Please start by uninstalling all of them to test.

[Bug 2067260] Re: Mouse mapping randomly temporarily changes after Ubuntu 24.04 upgrade

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The side buttons (BTN_EXTRA/SIDE or buttons 8/9 in Xorg) are mapped to
forward/back (Alt+Right/Left). So it sounds like the wheel is getting
misinterpreted as that, sometimes.

I wonder if you have found either:
 * A keyboard modifier stuck down, if not physically then in software.
 * Some accessibility mode.
 * A hardware-specific mode within the mouse itself.

[Bug 2067340] Re: can't open pdfs

2024-05-27 Thread Chelmite
I have also tried setting Thunderbird's settings for Files & Attachments
to "Use /bin/okular". The pdf files are still not opened.

As a workaround, I can save the pdf files and then open them with
okular. But WHY do I have to do this in a roundabout way? It used to
"just work" seamlessly!

[Bug 2066926] Re: python3-docker=5.0.3-1 is useless on ubuntu 24.04

2024-05-27 Thread Jitender kumar
** Summary changed:

- python3-docker=5.0.3-1ubuntu1 is useless on ubuntu 24.04
+ python3-docker=5.0.3-1 is useless on ubuntu 24.04

** Description changed:

- `python3-docker=5.0.3-1ubuntu1` is useless on ubuntu 24.04 because of
- the issue described [here](https://github.com/docker/docker-
- py/issues/3113) and fixed in version
- [6.1.0](https://github.com/docker/docker-py/releases/tag/6.1.0) with PR
- [3116](https://github.com/docker/docker-py/pull/3116).
+ `python3-docker=5.0.3-1` is useless on ubuntu 24.04 because of the issue
+ described [here](https://github.com/docker/docker-py/issues/3113) and
+ fixed in version [6.1.0](https://github.com/docker/docker-
+ py/releases/tag/6.1.0) with PR [3116](https://github.com/docker/docker-
+ py/pull/3116).

  as `Ubuntu 24.04` have following versions of `python3-requests`,
  `python3-urllib3` and `python3-docker` packages:

  ```
  $ apt list --installed | grep python3-urllib3
  python3-urllib3/noble,now 2.0.7-1 all [installed,automatic]
  $ apt list --installed | grep python3-requests
  python3-requests/noble,now 2.31.0+dfsg-1ubuntu1 all [installed,automatic]
  intel@gramine2404:~/docker-7.0.0$  apt list --installed | grep python3-docker
  python3-docker/noble,now 5.0.3-1ubuntu1 all [installed]
  $ lsb_release -a
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description:Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
  Release:24.04
  Codename:   noble
  ```

  Installing `docker` using `pip` is not the option on `Ubuntu 24.04`:
  ```
  $ pip3 install docker
  error: externally-managed-environment
  × This environment is externally managed
  ╰─> To install Python packages system-wide, try apt install
  python3-xyz, where xyz is the package you are trying to
  install.
  If you wish to install a non-Debian-packaged Python package,
  create a virtual environment using python3 -m venv path/to/venv.
  Then use path/to/venv/bin/python and path/to/venv/bin/pip. Make
  sure you have python3-full installed.
  If you wish to install a non-Debian packaged Python application,
  it may be easiest to use pipx install xyz, which will manage a
  virtual environment for you. Make sure you have pipx installed.
  See /usr/share/doc/python3.12/README.venv for more information.
  note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python
installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of
breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages.
  hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification.
  ```

  Hence Ubuntu 24.04 must upgrade `python3-docker=5.0.3` to
  `python3-docker>=6.1.0` where the compatibility issue with `requests`
  and `urllib3` is fixed.

[Bug 2067340] [NEW] can't open pdfs

2024-05-27 Thread Chelmite
Public bug reported:

If a pdf file is attached to an email message, right-clicking and
selecting Open does nothing.

In 23.10, clicking an attachment opened a dialog asking to save or view
via an app (okular).

How do I get it so I can view attachments in this "better" flatpak
version of thunderbird?

Thanks for testing that.

There still can be bandwidth problems caused by poor connections, and
detection problems caused by software bugs (not being tolerant enough of
poor or delayed connections on wakeup).

[Bug 2067338] [NEW] Long SysEx messages are skipped by Midi-Bridge

2024-05-27 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

A regression in 1.0.5 has been found in PipeWire and is fixed in 1.0.7.

Users of certain MIDI controllers that rely on long SysEx messages are
unable to function properly. I noticed this when reconnecting my
Beheringer X-Touch (shown here:
https://nextcloud.ericheickmeyer.com/index.php/s/k9Aa9Bq7RDD5DoR) after
the installation of 24.04 LTS, it could not operate properly. Disabling
pipewire-jack and running ardour's internal jack functionality caused it
to work properly.

Investigation consisted of backporting 1.0.7 via a PPA to Noble which
fixed the bug. Bug was confirmed via
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/4005. Solving
bug via SRU will consist of creating patches from the commits that fixed
the issue in upstream PipeWire.

[Test Case]

Using Ubuntu Studio

 * Connect a MIDI controller that uses long SysEx messages, such as a
Behringer X-Touch, to the system.

 * Star Ardour

 * In Preferences > Control Surfaces > Mackie, select the MIDI
controller for "Surface sends via:" and "Surface receives via:".

Expected: complete control population and function
Actual: Only display colors are populated

[What could go wrong]

It is possible that these patches could cause other problems outside of
long SysEx messages in MIDI controllers. However, these patches were
developed by the lead developer of PipeWire, Wim Taymans, and I tend to
trust that he knows exactly what he's doing with this kind of thing.

[Bug 2067337] Re: pulseaudio ignores ~/.config/pulse/client.conf

2024-05-27 Thread Ken Sharp
It does, however, pick up ~/.config/pulse/default.pa, but the directive
for auto-connect-localhost apparently has to go in client.conf, and I
cannot find an equivalent for default.pa to do this.

** Description changed:

  Using inotifywait I can see that Pulseaudio makes no attempt whatsoever
  to even check if ~/.config/pulse/client.conf exists, so anything you put
  in there is completely ignored.

  The man page claims that this should not be the case:

[Bug 2065250] Re: My external Diplay Flickers

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If lowering the resolution or refresh rate solves it then most likely
you need a higher quality HDMI cable.

I say HDMI cable because those usually have the most quality problems,
whereas DisplayPort does not.

Triggered by the scheduled backup. Initially `duplicity --version` hits
the same error in the terminal due to some missing python package.
Install that missing package to resove the error seen in the terminal.
However, I have no clue why Deja Dup was removed from my system at
all!?!

[Bug 2067333] [NEW] hostnamectl --set-hostname doesn't update /etc/hosts

2024-05-27 Thread Luke
Public bug reported:

hostnamectl is a System API that updates all important OS references to
the hostname, so the operator does not need to know them.

Having to manually update /etc/hosts defeats the purpose of having the
System API & leaves the OS in an inconsistent state

a second later "Press any key to continue...". With no key stroke, it

[Bug 2067250] Re: /usr/bin/w -s segfaults

2024-05-27 Thread Alex Murray
I think a follow-up commit might also be needed
https://gitlab.com/procps-
ng/procps/-/commit/b113806ccfa706e73bc2e0005eb7606d08c03850 since the
code to print the results from sd_get_sessions() still has the wrong
test of `if (sessions >= 0)` - this instead should be `if (sessions >
0)` which is corrected in this additional commit

[Bug 2038492] Re: workqueue: inode_switch_wbs_work_fn hogged CPU for >10000us 16 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND

2024-05-27 Thread Gordon Lack
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2037214 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2037214

The duplicate status is *clearly wrong*, as #2037214 refers to the
"evict_inodes" issue (now fixed at some point) whereas this bug report
is, according to its title, about the "workqueue:
inode_switch_wbs_work_fn hogged CPU for >1us 4" issue.

This has not been fixed (I'm seeing it on 6.8.0-31-generic in Noble).

There are solutions posted for it.

[Bug 2036670] Re: containerd packages are missing the crictl binary

2024-05-27 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi Craig,

You might have gotten confused because of this containerd page:

https://github.com/containerd/containerd/blob/main/docs/cri/crictl.md

There are some commands to facilitate the installation of crictl, but
the code actually resides here:

https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/cri-tools

The command `make install-deps` is defined here:

https://github.com/containerd/containerd/blob/main/Makefile#L431

and it calls script/setup/install-critools, which basically installs
crictl from its git repo.

In short, the source code is not in the containerd repo. This is not as
easy as enabling a build flag, we need to package it from scratch (a new
source package).

All the commands provided by the containerd source code can be seen
here:

https://github.com/containerd/containerd/tree/main/cmd

The creation of a Debian package to provide crictl was already requested
by other people, and it is a valid request, but this is unrelated to the
containerd Debian package.

[Bug 2067325] [NEW] m...@cinnamon.org applet configure custom icon

2024-05-27 Thread Alan Knepper
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04 LTS x86_64

Kernel: Linux 6.8.0-31-generic

The main menu applet, m...@cinnamon.org will not allow me to pick a PNG
image for custom icon.

If I search my icon folder, ~/.icons/Icons for a png, it shows none to choose
from.
If I drop a JPG image in there, it sees it and allows me to use it.

I dual boot with Linux Mint 21.3 and do not have this issue.

One thing I did notice is that if I export my menu, with the JPG image
to a .json file, then edit the file and make that setting a PNG file,
then import that .json file then the menu shows the PNG file as my
selected custom icon. So the applet works as far as display, it just
won't select PNG. Not sure about other image types svg or gif.

Attachment shows trying to pick a PNG icon. This is with the current
configuration set for that PNG image, however it doesn't show the image.

[Bug 2063983] Re: simpledrm / lightdm race condition leads to black screen

2024-05-27 Thread Mario Limonciello
Can someone with an affected system raise a bug report upstream to lightdm?
There was a very similar bug that occurred in GDM last year:

[Bug 2065180] Re: performance regression in dracut-install 060

2024-05-27 Thread Dave Jones
Results on a Pi 4B booting from SD card. Stock noble:

$ sudo hyperfine -r 5 "update-initramfs -u"
Benchmark 1: update-initramfs -u

  Time (mean ± σ): 189.984 s ±  1.618 s[User: 75.720 s, System: 115.323
s]

  Range (min … max):   187.319 s … 191.142 s5 runs

Then running the branch from
https://code.launchpad.net/~bdrung/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-
tools/+git/initramfs-tools/+ref/ubuntu/devel :

$ sudo hyperfine -r 5 "update-initramfs -u"
Benchmark 1: update-initramfs -u
  Time (mean ± σ): 98.473 s ±  2.263 s[User: 26.061 s, System: 73.138 s]
  Range (min … max):   95.923 s … 101.560 s5 runs

So that's a pretty substantial improvement. Still not *quite* at the mantic
level, but it's in the same ball-park now, and that's not including the changes
to lvm2 or cryptsetup.

[Bug 2067137] Re: package cloud-init 24.1.3-0ubuntu1~23.10.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed cloud-init package post-installation script subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

2024-05-27 Thread Brett Holman
> The desktop crashes after some time and a hard reboot is needed (going
so far to unplug and re-plug).

This happens while trying to upgrade cloud-init I assume? Does this
reproduce for you? I just tried upgraded cloud-init from 23.3.1-0ubuntu2
to 24.1.3-0ubuntu1~23.10.2 without error. The journal log included is
from a different boot than the one where you had this issue. Can you
please share the journal log from the boot you did on 05/24?

To do that please run:

journalctl -b -N

where N is 0 for current boot, -1 for previous, -2 for boot before
previous, etc.

Please not that a signal which kills cloud-init during postinst doesn't
necessarily mean that there is an issue with cloud-init.

[Bug 1874272] Re: Stage "searching for obsolete software" takes a very long time (30 minutes)

2024-05-27 Thread Simon Dalley
Running 23.10 on a 6-core AMD Zen 3 CPU with 32GB RAM. Software Updater
advertised availability of Noble Numbat 24.04 upgrade. All went OK until
Cleaning up / "searching for obsolete software", 1 CPU core running
"noble" went to 100%. Stayed like that for 4 hours. Eventually accepted
the pop-up which offered to Force Close the app. Sounds like this bug,
rather a showstopper for me. Fortunately there was a pre-upgrade
snapshot that I could revert back to.

(https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1220032)

  [ Test Plan ]

  This has been extensively tested via the AppArmor regression test
  script in the QA Regression Testing repo:
  https://git.launchpad.net/qa-regression-testing/tree/scripts/test-apparmor.py

  This script runs various tests against the installed apparmor
  package, as well as building and running the various upstream
  regression and other test suites against this installed package:
    -
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/tests/regression/apparmor?ref_type=heads

    -
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/libraries/libapparmor/testsuite?ref_type=heads

  The final test output was:

  --
- Ran 62 tests in 1861.933s
+ Ran 62 tests in 1855.366s

  OK (skipped=4)

  $ apt policy apparmor
  apparmor:
Installed: 4.0.1-0ubuntu0.1
Candidate: 4.0.1-0ubuntu0.1

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  There could still be more applications affected by the
  restriction of the creation of unpriviliged user namespaces. They
  might require the creation of new unconfined profiles which could
  be mitigated in a later SRU.

  [ Other Info ]

  The SRU is available in:

[Bug 2067319] Re: After upgrading from bionic to focal, esm-cache.service hits apparmor denials

2024-05-27 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu)
 Assignee: (unassigned) => Andreas Hasenack (ahasenack)

** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High

** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => In Progress

** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  On ubuntu-advantage-tools v32.2, currently in -proposed, we are hitting
  apparmor DENIED errors on the apt update hook which executes esm-
  cache.service.

  This ONLY happens if the version with the apparmor profiles is installed
  on a Focal system which has been upgraded from Bionic, using do-release-
  upgrade.

  It seems that despite covering /usr/bin/ in the profile on Focal for
  commands like uname or systemctl, we don't account for /bin/. However,
  when coming from a Bionic system, /bin/ is an actual folder instead of a
  symlink (as expected on a fresh Focal machine).

+ This happens because of the usr-merge effort. On fresh focal systems, we have
symlinks replacing top-level directories like /bin, /sbin, and others:
+ root@f-pristine:~# ls -la /{bin,lib,lib*,sbin}
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  7 May 24 21:40 /bin -> usr/bin
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  7 May 24 21:40 /lib -> usr/lib
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  7 May 24 21:40 /lib -> usr/lib
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  9 May 24 21:40 /lib32 -> usr/lib32
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  9 May 24 21:40 /lib64 -> usr/lib64
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 May 24 21:40 /libx32 -> usr/libx32
+ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  8 May 24 21:40 /sbin -> usr/sbin
+
+ In bionic, these are actual directories:
+ root@b:~# ls -lad /{bin,lib,lib*,sbin}
+ drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2472 Jun  7  2023 /bin
+ drwxr-xr-x 1 root root  438 Jun  7  2023 /lib
+ drwxr-xr-x 1 root root  438 Jun  7  2023 /lib
+ drwxr-xr-x 1 root root   40 Jun  7  2023 /lib64
+ drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3694 Jun  7  2023 /sbin
+
+ In a focal system that was upgraded from bionic, the usr-merge is not
+ done, and this focal system will retain the bionic top-level
+ directories.

[Bug 2063983] Re: 24.04 Upgrade/Fresh Install results in black screen on reboot on AMDGPU system

2024-05-27 Thread Will
I have the same issue on Xubuntu 6700XT system after upgrading from
23.10 to 24.04. Reboot after upgrade worked and then got the issue on
the 2nd boot. Removing "splash" from grub works.

apply a security patch.

I totally agree with that! Thank you for your understanding. That was
exactly the point that I was trying to make.

[Bug 2065250] Re: My external Diplay Flickers

2024-05-27 Thread Mario Marinero
Same setup as #2
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2065250/comments/2

The failing monitor is 1080p old NEC MustySync EA231EMi
The main monitor is 4K, it has no issues

Lowering resolutions to 1600x900 on failing monitor or 1080p on 4k monitor
solves the issue
Lowering refresh to 50 hz on the failing monitor also solves the issue

[Bug 2065346] Re: nmtui and nmcli doesn't read wifi password from config files

2024-05-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The log also has
device (wlp5s0): no secrets: No agents were available for this request.

Could be that KDE is missing an agent, would be worth trying under a
GNOME session if you see the same behaviour
