[Bug 869516]

2024-05-29 Thread Jamesg-3
The topic of syntax highlighting came up in a discussion among hobbyist
web makers and developers in which I was a facilitator today.

I wanted to add to the record to affirm there is ongoing interest in
having syntax highlighting for CSS and JavaScript files. This is
especially helpful for beginners who may use view source to better
understand web pages, and to developers who want to read an entire CSS
and JavaScript file on its own, independent of the additional tools in
the debugger.

[Bug 1168943] [NEW] Friends does not present RT in official way: missing original avatar and pseudo, messages truncated

2024-05-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

When someone I follow on Twitter or Identica RT a tweet from the
official way (ie not makes manually a citation with "RT @...") by using
"Retweet" option, I expect to see the message in my Timeline as it
appears on Twitter website.

It means : avatar and pseudo of original author of message retweeted,
and below a row which says "Shared" or "RT by @..." and name of user who
made the RT.

Because RT are a way to make your followers discover new interesting
users and be able to follow them.

I guess Friends will have soon an option to directly follow an user from
a menu coming after click on his avatar or name, so for that we need the
original ones, not those of the person who did the RT (see screenshot).

Another problem : when you RT a message which is already 140 characters,
the way Friends presents : it adds on the beginning of the message "RT
@" and name of author, which reduces number of characters available.

So often the end of message is truncated : we miss end of sentance, or
sometimes URL links are no more correct and can not be visited from the
RT.

I hope it will be possible to make it like official Twitter behavior :)

[Bug 2039235] Re: gnome-online-accounts -> when signing into google account, infinite loading after entering password

2024-05-29 Thread Bruce Crowther
So this has been closed because it is fixed in 24.04, except that
overnight this behaviour is now occurring in 24.04.

Overnight my Gnome Online Accounts simply disappeared. When I attempt to
re-establish them the GOA tool in settings opens my browser, I follow
the onscreen prompts and the last screen to add the account to Ubuntu
just keeps loading forever, and the Setting windows freezes and requires
a force quit.

This is an action replay of what happened in 22.04, and it appears I
will have to abandon Evolution as my email client and revert to
Thunderbird again unless somebody can suggest a fix to GOA.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 244250] Re: Spurious reboot notifications caused by libssl upgrades.

2024-05-29 Thread Seth Arnold
Adrien, thanks so much for digging into this again.

This is so very complicated, why does openssl need special handling in
the world of needrestart? My inclination is to remove all this
complexity and address any shortcomings of needrestart in the
needrestart package. Am I off base?

Thanks

[Bug 2067547] [NEW] [MS-7D32, Nvidia GPU 9e HDMI/DP, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2024-05-29 Thread JehunKang
Public bug reported:

I can find the output devices in Settings - Sound, but they do not work.

I cannot hear any sound from either my headphones (3.5mm) or my monitor.

I've tried some solutions from other communities, but they were not
helpful.

[Bug 2067176] Re: Boot and memory test errors in grub

2024-05-29 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 2055114] Re: fail2ban is broken in 24.04 Noble

2024-05-29 Thread Richard Laager
@ghadi-rahme:

The version in the changelog is wrong. You have "1.0.2-ubuntu1", which
should presumably be "1.0.2-3ubuntu1". You are missing the "3" after the
dash.

Also, configure-setup-to-install-fail2ban.compat.patch does not apply
cleanly. Your version has spaces throughout the whole patch (both the
context lines and the line you are adding), where the code in the
package uses tabs.

[Bug 1990357] Re: ch340 USB/serial - brltty interference

2024-05-29 Thread ihor lys
This bug still exists even for recent installations of 22.04 LTS. Thats
not actually surprising, but the path needed to create this bug is.

Capturing the serial converter USB device generically as has been shown,
is a MAJOR breakdown of proper etiquette at least, and a don't care
attitude on the part of the Braille device manufacturers, those writing
of the udev rules, and those allowing that into the distributions. This
was a coordinated effort amongst multiple people to ignore at least best
practices in the name of "accessibility". I can only imagine what could
be done if someone wanted to be malicious.

[Bug 2067544] [NEW] [BPO] package-notes/12 from oracular

2024-05-29 Thread Luca Boccassi
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

The version in oracular introduces a new package, dh-dlopenlibdeps,
which is a new build dependency of systemd, that we need to use in the
upstream CI when building systemd in noble images to ensure Ubuntu is
covered by the integration tests

[Scope]

Backport version 0.12 from oracular to noble-backports

[Other Info]

The existing package in this source is unchanged, and the new code is in
the new binary package that has no reverse dependencies in noble, so
risk is very low. This will make possible to continue building systemd
git main in ubuntu noble. No source changes are required, a changelog-
only upload is sufficient.

[Bug 2066938] Re: Applying a package profile leaves unnecessary file in sources.list.d

2024-05-29 Thread Mitch Burton
Hi Mike,

The _landscape-internal-facade.list file is a file created to work
around LP: #1736576, which implies that package profiles on bionic and
up will break on apt-secure verification without this file.

As this seems to be intended behaviour, I'm going to close this bug -
feel free to reopen it if you disagree.

[Bug 1710022] Re: Snap store APIs (api.snapcraft.io) are not reachable via IPv6

2024-05-29 Thread Lawrence A. Murakami
I ran across this when testing Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat on an AWS
instance without a public IPv4 address.

Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat does not have the awscli package that Ubuntu
22.04 Jammy Jellyfish and earlier versions of Ubuntu had. Ubuntu 24.04
Noble Numbat instead supplies a snap aws-cli package but this cannot be
installed on an instance without a Public IPv4 address.

I have seen comments to the contrary but in my opinion this is an Ubuntu
issue as well as an AWS issue as long as they both claim to support
IPv6.

Snap is not alone as github still does not support IPv6.

I started working with AWS instances without a Public IPv4 address when
AWS announced they would start charging for them. I continue to be
amazed at how many issues I discover with an instance without a Public
IPv4 address. AWS has been charging for a Public IPv4 address for
months now.

Using Kubuntu 22.04, and this bug is present. The temporary workaround
given above has the wrong directory for the symlink. It should be
/usr/share/sddm/themes/ubuntu-theme

[Bug 2067526] [NEW] MATE panel multiple errors and crashes in 24.10

2024-05-29 Thread Antonio Contreras
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 24.10, everytime I boot Ubuntu MATE, I see multiple
errors of parts of the panel that couldn't be started because of an
error. I see always a few windows that says:

Network Monitor/Notification Area/Workspace Switcher/Window List/Show
Desktop has ended unexpectedly

If you reload an object from the panel, it will automatically be added
back to the panel.

Options: Delete. Do not reload. Reload

I'd try reloading the objects but it won't work.

[Bug 2067525] [NEW] The Wi-Fi becomes extremely slow upon startup or disconnects

2024-05-29 Thread Dionatan F.S
Public bug reported:

The Wi-Fi becomes extremely slow upon startup or disconnects, unless I always
run the command sudo iwconfig wlp2s0 power off at startup. When I do this, it
works but never at the maximum available speed.
The problem is not new and was always solved by using Additional Drivers.
However, this option is no longer available, and the issue with the driver
(RTL8821CE) has only changed.

[Bug 2067523] [NEW] `mk-sbuild` on older Ubuntu versions like 22.04 are unable to build new Debian chroots

2024-05-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

Sometimes, when we are working with both Ubuntu and Debian, we need to
create a Debian chroot for build testing.

Unfortunately, mk-sbuild is UNABLE to create Debian chroots. Currently,
the first error is that "/bin/true" is nonexistent (it's in
`/usr/bin/true` now). Then, it fails trying to execute ldconfig, and a
continual chain of issues.

It's possible this is a debootstrap problem, but one that probably needs
rectified.

[Bug 2067519] [NEW] gnome-remote-de[891989]: Init file credentials failed: Key file does not start with a group

2024-05-29 Thread Felipe Portavales Goldstein
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am encountering a problem similar to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-remote-desktop/+bug/206

I do have the latest package installed:
$ apt search gnome-remote
Sorting... Done
Full Text Search... Done
gnome-remote-desktop/noble-updates,noble-security,now 46.2-1~ubuntu24.04.2
amd64 [installed,automatic]
Remote desktop daemon for GNOME using PipeWire

I tried forcing re-install:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-remote-desktop

I tried running these workaround commands described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-remote-desktop/+bug/206

sudo systemd-tmpfiles --create
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/gnome-remote-desktop-tmpfiles.conf
sudo systemd-sysusers /usr/lib/sysusers.d/gnome-remote-desktop-sysusers.conf
sudo systemd-tmpfiles --create
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/gnome-remote-desktop-tmpfiles.conf

Any help on how to fix it ?

Ironically, the Label feature works on UBUNTU 24.10. In 24.04 of you go
to syslog there are zillions of error messages describing the
Psensor/Label issue.

[Bug 2066066] Re: cloud-init startup failure with Python 3.9.5, Ubuntu Focal

2024-05-29 Thread Rilindo Foster
I think that make sense. I think we don't actual need to make the
python3.9 the default for what we are trying to do originally. That
said, even when we didn't make python3.9 the default, it was still
breaking.

At any event, I'll going to revert the change at some point and get back
to you. Of note that when we manually went through the process of
performing the initial customization, we have not been able to reproduce
the issue either.

[Bug 2067516] [NEW] [aws] Backport CMA pool per numa functionality for 22.04 and 20.04

2024-05-29 Thread Philip Cox
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification:

[Impact]

We discovered a network packets per second (PPS) performance issue in
one of our upcoming EC2 instance platform on Graviton. The issue is
addressed by setting a value for the numa_cma parameter. While this
parameter is supported in 24.04, the parameter is not available in 22.04
or 20.04 today, which could impact customers running 22.04 or 20.04 on
the new EC2 platform.

[Fix]

We are requesting the the following changes be backported to 22.04 and 20.04
for ARM:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/noble/commit/kernel/dma/contiguous.c?id=22e4a348f87c59df2c02f1efb7ba9a56b622c7b8
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/noble/commit/kernel/dma/contiguous.c?id=bf29bfaa54901a4bdee2a18cd10eb951a884a5f9

EC2 Nitro team is only asking for the change in ARM, however we will
leave to Canonical's discretion to make the same changes in x86.

We also request Canonical set kernel params to "numa_cma=1:32M" for all
OSes that support this parameter - 24.04, 22.04 and 20.04.
