[Bug 2067603] Re: systemd-pull missing

2024-05-30 Thread Lennart Jern
Thank you, that did it indeed!
I would still claim this is a dependency bug though. How come I can have
systemd-sysupdate installed without systemd-container? I had to use strace to
figure out what the issue was. Without that I just got cryptic messages like:

$ /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-sysupdate

Discovering installed instances…

Discovering available instances…

⤵️ Acquiring manifest file
https://github.com/flatcar/sysext-bakery/releases/download/latest/SHA256SUMS…
(sd-pull) failed with exit status 1.

[Bug 787738]

2024-05-30 Thread duven
I have also made an account just for this error.
For a few weeks now the mouse and keyboard are constantly getting stuck.
I thought it was the temperature and I just changed the thermal paste and
removed the dust. It's still the same. On windows I don't have this problem.

I have an old dell n411z with Mint 21.3 and kernel 5.15.0-107-generic
installed.

Someone knows to solve it? I will try downgrade/upgrade kernel.

[Bug 2067669] [NEW] Mute/mic LEDs no function on ProBook 440/460 G11

2024-05-30 Thread Andy Chi
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The mic mute/audio mute LEDS are not work on HP ProBook 440/460 G11

[Fix]
It needs the specific quirk for the hardware layout.
Thus, add the quirks to make it works.

[Test]
After applying the quirk, the audio/mic mute LEDs are working good.

[Where problems could occur]
If HP ships the different system boards design with the same subsystem ID of
audio codec which is using different GPIO pins (different layout), then the
quirk will not work (LEDs will not work when muting audio-output or microphone).

I tested on the ubuntu 23.10 Desktop vm, no render is set, the yaml file is as
below:
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
eth0:
  dhcp4: yes
  dhcp4-overrides:
use-dns: true
  dhcp6: yes
  dhcp6-overrides:
use-dns: true

Run the 'netplan apply' command, journalctl | grep netplan, it shows as
below, does it mean it uses Network Manager at this configuration?

[Bug 2067654] Re: [MIR] libsub-prototype-perl

2024-05-30 Thread Chris Peterson
** Description changed:

-
+ [Availability]
+ The package libsub-prototype-perl is already in Ubuntu universe.
+ The package libsub-prototype-perl builds for the architectures it is designed
to work on.
+ It currently builds and works for architectures: amd64, arm64, armhf,
ppc64el, riscv64, s390x, i386
+ Link to package: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsub-prototype-perl
+
+ [Rationale]
+ The package libsub-prototype-perl is required in Ubuntu main as a Test and
+ Runtime dependency of libsub-override-perl, a package already in main. This
+ dependency was recently introduced in libsub-override-perl version 0.11-1
+ (currently in Oracular proposed).
+
+ There doesn't appear to be alternative packages with the same functionality
+ available in the archive.
+
+ The package libsub-prototype-perl is required in Ubuntu main no later than
+ August 15th 2024 (Feature Freeze for OO) so that new version of
+ libsub-override-perl can migrate to the release pocket before release.
+
+ [Security]
+ No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past
+
+ The package is a very simple Perl library/module. After inspecting the
package,
+ I found:
+
+ - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries
+ - no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
+ - Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
+ - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
+ - Package does not expose any external endpoints
+ - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software
+(filters, scanners, plugins, UI skins, ...)
+
+ The package does not use security related algorithms, insecure or
+ otherwise.
+
+ [Quality assurance - function/usage]
+ The package works well right after install
+
+

[Bug 2056372] Re: Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work

2024-05-30 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
I'll do a bit of git archaeology tomorrow to try and find out why the
quote macros were added. Otherwise, my vote is to go with the bash
invocation in the sub-process so that way we can keep the quote macros.

[Bug 2067659] [NEW] All Desktop icon disappear if 'Desktop' Folder contains a corrupted encoding file

2024-05-30 Thread Bugreporter69
Public bug reported:

Hi,

For this to happen, you should have "Desktop icons" activated.

After downloading from my browser directly to my '$HOME/Desktop/' folder
a file corrupted with an unknown encoding (or partially downloaded
therefore corrupted with a bad encoding, anyway), ALL the icons on my
ubuntu-desktop/Gnome3 Desktop environment disappeared.

To fix it, and after looking around what the heck was happening,
rebooted, deactivated Extensions, etc. Without any working Fix, I
deleted this bad encoding/corrupted file and ALL the icons on my ubuntu-
desktop/Gnome3 Desktop environment display normally again.

Thank you,

[Bug 2067660] [NEW] deprecate ubuntu_advantage config key from user-data in favor of ubuntu_pro

2024-05-30 Thread Chad Smith
Public bug reported:

In upstream cloud-init ubuntu_advantage user-data cloud-config key is
deprecated in favor of ubuntu_pro to better align with current Ubuntu
Pro product naming and to avoid confusion in howtos, tutorials or
tooling when interacting with Ubuntu Pro offerings.

In an effort to standardize product naming across all Ubuntu supported
releases, we will target a backport of this key deprecation to Xenial
and Bionic to ensure Ubuntu Pro's releases covered by Extended Security
Maintenance will also align with active Ubuntu Long Term Support(LTS)
and interim release configuration keys.

This bug is an SRU process bug representing the intent to backport a limited
scope of functionality related to the cc_ubuntu_advantage module for better
Ubuntu Pro support ESM releases.

No other functional changes are intended beyond logged messages, user-
data schema and config-key deprecation.

[Bug 2067658] [NEW] Driver issue for Intel Alder Lake-P GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics] appears in Noble Numbat

2024-05-30 Thread Todd Wegner
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) from lubuntu 23.10 the system no
longer boots
except in safe mode. A fresh install of Noble Numbat was done, but this did not
resolve the problem.

In the grub file /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT='quiet splash' was changed to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT='quiet splash nomodeset '

and now the system boots.

[Bug 2067657] [NEW] Mouse slowdown using trackpad

2024-05-30 Thread Gabriele Romano
Public bug reported:

when using for a bit the pc, under load but sporadically, the system
slows down and appears to be some inertia to the pointer movement and
the page scroll gestures, making impossible to perform precise point and
click actions. With an external mouse does not happen, it happens only
with the trackpad. My pc specs are quite high and i just changed thermal
paste and in windows 10 it does not happen, so it's not an hardware
issue.

No issues except some filters do not work and require calf-plugins. As
stated before, this is merely an enhancement and no longer required by
the application. Most state they are using lsp-plugins in lieu of calf-
plugins, but without calf some simply don't work. So yes, there is some
functionality lost, but not a complete loss of application
functionality.

For those plugins to work, those users can install calf-plugins, but
will lose the ability to use ardour or audacity.

For what it's worth, Audacity and Ardour functioned just fine without
calf-plugins being installed with easyeffects installed. In my
professional opinion, I wouldn't run easyeffects at the same time since,
when doing audio production, you want flat speaker response. :)

[Bug 2063847] Re: Audacity hangs on launch if calf-plugins package is installed

2024-05-30 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Gabriel,

For what it's worth, we've had some movement on LP: #2063879 which will
remove calf-plugins from being a dependency of easyeffects, so that
should solve the coinstallability problem and allow you to remove calf-
plugins soon.

[Bug 2065708] Re: Add Picture button in Background does not allow you to select wallpaper

2024-05-30 Thread fossfreedom
I presume that this is the apparmor SRU
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/2064672

Can confirm that the apparmor changes for oracular work for BCC. I've
uploaded to unstable a revert fix.

Lets close this SRU request once the apparmor changes have been
evaluated by the SRU team and if content test with them to check noble
works without needing this specific update.

[Bug 2061329] Re: displaycal 3.9.11-2 fails to start in noble, needs python 3.11

2024-05-30 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ DisplayCAL, when released, was only compatible with Python 3.8-3.11.
+ However, all it needed was WxWidgets 4.1.1 and a few patches to make it
+ work with Python 3.12. Without, it would simply fail.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install displaycal
+ * Run displaycal
+
+ Expected: Run normally
+ Result:
+
+ Traceback (most recent call last):
+   File "/usr/bin/displaycal", line 4, in
+ from DisplayCAL.main import main
+   File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/DisplayCAL/main.py", line 27, in

+ raise RuntimeError(
+ RuntimeError: Need Python version >= 3.8 <= 3.11, got 3.12.2
+
+
+ [What could go wrong]
+
+ The DisplayCAL developers do not yet support Python 3.12 until the
+ release of WxWidgets 4.2.0 since it could crash upon closure. I (Erich
+ Eickmeyer) have not experienced this in my testing, however, it is
+ plausible. Additionally, the patches that were used to make this work
+ were developed after the release of DisplayCAL 3.9.12, but still applied
+ cleanly to 3.9.11 and made it function correctly.

+ [Other Information]
+
+ Original bug report:
+
I have upgraded to the noble beta today, and displaycal fails to start.

The package dependencies request python 3.12, but the actual software

[Bug 2004179] Re: neutron-linuxbridge-agent flat network incompatibility with systemd-networkd

2024-05-30 Thread Jan Graichen
We're not yet on 24.04 and still have a few OpenStack upgrades to do
before we can try 24.04. For now, we're running 22.04 and do specify the
bridges that neutron-linuxbridge-agent would create directly in systemd-
networkd, which mostly works, like this:

# /etc/systemd/network/10-brqe240c66b-da.netdev
[NetDev]
Name=brqe240c66b-da
Kind=bridge
MTUBytes=1500

# /etc/systemd/network/10-brqe240c66b-da.network
[Match]
Name=brqe240c66b-da
[Link]
MTUBytes=1500
[Network]
LinkLocalAddressing=no
ConfigureWithoutCarrier=yes

This might have some implications on security, since we're not
completely sure that we didn't miss any isolation or brtables/iptables
rule that neutron-linuxbridge-agent would or wouldn't set up, but in our
specific case, we deemed that as acceptable.

[Bug 2063094] Re: unattended-upgrades is running forever

2024-05-30 Thread Adrien Nader
Attaching 20 seconds of strace output for my case.

This actually lead me to look at /var/log/unattended-
upgrades/unattended-upgrades-shutdown.log and I Noticed the following:

2024-01-18 15:01:16,996 WARNING - SIGTERM or SIGHUP received, stopping
unattended-upgrades only if it is running

signal, polling instead.
2024-01-18 15:01:24,367 WARNING - To enable monitoring the PrepareForShutdown()
signal instead of polling please install the python3-gi package

I also have that in my journal logs:

and

(last line is repeated 9 times in total)

Unfortunately I can't really go back and see when this started.
Considering the total CPU time and the average CPU usage (which seems to
be slightly above 50% in practice, with peaks at 100%), the issue might
be present since the machine was booted.

However I now see the link with an issue I've been seeing for a long
time on the host in dmesg:

audit: type=1400 audit(1717098847.156:4846706): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mount" info="failed flags match" error=-13 profile="lxc-
container-default-cgns" name="/" pid=840997 comm="(d-logind)" flags="rw,
rslave"

I found some related topics which indicate I'm not entirely alone but I
really can't tell if the bug initially reported here and mine are the
same. I think the universal teaching here is that there can be loops for
many different reasons, including maybe through dbus and service
activation.

[Bug 2056372] Re: Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work

2024-05-30 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
With this said, I have reservations about removing a quote macro without
research. It does more than just quote wrap a variable, it also escapes
quotes and other special characters from the variable

To be honest, I'm no expert in this source code, but if the variables
$sender_host_address or $sender_address come from metadata that the user
controls, they can create a malicious payload and achieve ACE in a
subprocess.

This might not be an issue at all, and the variable could be properly
sanitized by this point, but it's a concern I'd like to investigate
before removing it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I suspect a support site would be more appropriate, e.g.
https://askubuntu.com, or for more options please look at

[Bug 2048962] Re: Icon cache and other appstream data are on the ISO because of live-build.

2024-05-30 Thread wontfix
** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce
  Create VM with networking off.
Boot Ubuntu ISO in Live testing mode.

- du -h /var/lib/swcatalog
- ls -a /var/lib/apt/lists
- du -h /var/lib/apt/lists
+ ls -a /var/lib/apt/lists/
+ du -h /var/lib/apt/lists/
+ du -h /var/lib/swcatalog/
+ du -h /var/cache/swcatalog/cache/

The amount is larger than I expected when you look at what wouldn't be
installed from a non-live ISO due to live-build not cleaning up after
appstream. This also glitches the snap store which falls back to
appstream icons if they exist. On first run you can sometimes see them
shifting around and glitching the UI as you work through the app on poor
  WiFi or cellular connections.

Debian has the same behavior for live ISOs but does not for the normal
  large ISOs.

[Bug 2065579] Re: [UBUNTU 22.04] OS guest boot issues on 9p filesystem

2024-05-30 Thread Marc Deslauriers
This is the upstream commit which introduced the change in behaviour:

https://gitlab.com/qemu-
project/qemu/-/commit/f6b0de53fb87ddefed348a39284c8e2f28dc4eda

There is no subsequent fix to the new restrictions, and the only more
recent commit is one to deprecate the whole proxy backend:

https://gitlab.com/qemu-
project/qemu/-/commit/71d72ececa086114df80fe4cc04d701b59002eb2

I will investigate whether we can relax the restrictions to allow
sockets.

[Bug 2065579] Re: [UBUNTU 22.04] OS guest boot issues on 9p filesystem

2024-05-30 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Hi,

I took some time today to take a closer look into this issue. I wanted
to determine whether this was coming from something that we did, or some
upstream change. Here are my findings:

1) This is not architecture-specific. I can reproduce the problem
(thanks for the script, btw!) on s390x and amd64. This was somewhat
expected because we're talking about an issue affecting a filesystem
here, but it's good to be able to confirm.

2) This issue was *not* happening 6.2+dfsg-2ubuntu6.15, and started
happening afterwards. This confirms that this is indeed a regression
introduced by the upload of 6.2+dfsg-2ubuntu6.16 (which was a security
upload).

3) Ultimately, this is a security regression and will need to be handled
by our Security team. I will get in touch with them. Unfortunately,
although this is a regression that comes from upstream, I don't see much
interest from their part in fixing problems with 9pfs. I will leave a
comment in the upstream bug report to see if it generates any movement.

Thanks.

Hi Mitchell,

Your version works for me as well.

In the interim I have been successfully using the following
configuration. Would this be potentially useful, or are there issues
with removing ${quote:} from --ip and --identity?

condition = ${run{/usr/bin/spfquery.mail-spf-perl \
   --ip $sender_host_address \
   --scope mfrom \
   --identity $sender_address} \
   {no}{${if eq {$runrc}{1}{yes}{no
