[Bug 2068566] Re: Noble hangs at boot after failed upgrade
Thanks for the workaround Daniel. Unfortunately that did not work for me. I don’t understand why the upgrade option was presented if it is known to be problematic. The upgrades should have been suppressed until a clean upgrade is available. In the meantime, what else do you need to help with the X troubleshooting and boot hang? [Bug 2068687] Re: L2TP VPN is not working in Ubuntu 24.04
I'm not sure why the user authentication is failing for you with go-l2tp's kl2tpd, you could try disabling all of the authentication methods in the PPP settings other than MSCHAPv2. You could also try switching to xl2tpd and see if you have the same problem, e.g.: sudo apt install xl2tpd sudo apt purge go-l2tp the other Linux distros you mentioned don't ship with go-l2tp, so they would have been defaulting to xl2tpd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2068687 Title: L2TP VPN is not working in Ubuntu 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-l2tp/+bug/2068687/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2068687] [NEW] L2TP VPN is not working in Ubuntu 24.04
Public bug reported: I see level=error tunnel_name=t1 message="unhandled v2 control message" message_type=avpMsgTypeSli after upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04 when I try to connect to L2TP VPN with network-manager-1.46.0 and network-manager-l2tp 1.20.12 I also see this not working in clean Ubuntu 24.04 installation into VirtualBox VM, while 23.10 allows me to connect. [Bug 2068024] Re: race_sched in ubuntu_stress_smoke_test will cause kernel panic on 6.8 with Azure Standard_A2_v2 instance
This issue was fixed by the following commit (upstream as of the 6.9 kernel): 1560d1f6eb6b398bddd80c16676776c0325fe5fe "sched/eevdf: Prevent vlag from going out of bounds in reweight_eevdf()" I've sent the patches to the mailing list for noble:linux (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2024-June/151360.html). I left out other derivatives as they'll get them from noble:linux. Oracular is tracking past the 6.9 kernel, so these patches should already be applied there. I've also attached the bisect logs for the break and fix commits, as well as the script used to test (along with a patch to speed up testing). ** Attachment added: "bisect log identifying break commit" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2068024/+attachment/5787032/+files/break_commit_bisect.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2068024 Title: race_sched in ubuntu_stress_smoke_test will cause kernel panic on 6.8 with Azure Standard_A2_v2 instance To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-kernel-tests/+bug/2068024/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2068655] Re: net stable backport request for 24.04 lts
Hi Daniel, Thanks for your contributions! There's two ways we get patches into our Ubuntu kernels, the first is a LP bug per patchset that ideally fixes one specific issue, has a testcase etc and then we submit patches for review to the Ubuntu Kernel Mailing list. The process is: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelUpdates https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Dev/StablePatchFormat The second is we take upstream stable patches and apply them wholesale. I think the best way for you is to wait for them to be pulled in via upstream stable. Looking at stable-queue from Greg KH and Sasha Levin: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/stable- queue.git/commit/?id=72b0cfbaddd2d041748637c1d9e69b83c1a99ec3 The netkit patches are already queued up, and will likely be in 6.9.4, which will probably be applied in 2-3 months time, and your vxlan patch has yet to reach stable-queue. If you are in a hurry, I can help create SRU templates for you and format things correctly. You just need to supply some justifications and testcases we can verify. [Bug 2067608] Re: clamav-freshclam 1.0.5 and logwatch 7.7-1 fails to report
@mitchdz You're partially correct. clamav-freshclam.service updates the clam database, and updates the /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log. logwatch does nothing to update "it". It only reviews the freshclam.log file, looking for certain markers, to indicate that updates occurred, or if there were any errors. I had added the recent freshclam.log file as an attachment when I created the bug report. Please see it there. I believe that either one of two things has happened... 1. Since clamav changed from a 0.98 version, to a 1.0.x version, the file format of freshclam.log has changed, and logwatch 7.x can no longer properly decipher it. 2. logwatch was updated to 7.7, from 7.5, and they didn't update the scripts for the clam-update portion. [Bug 2067897] Re: Ubuntu 24.04 does not install resolvconf uses systemd-resolved instead which is broken
FYI - Tobias wasn't keen on the dummy interface option, per his response here https://github.com/strongswan/strongswan/discussions/2085#discussioncomment-9678750 (though maybe that is a good option, but dnsmasq needs to be changed to suit it?) I also hit a problem where a server I wish to access over the VPN also has an IP address on the public internet - and whereas with the old resolvconf executable, somehow starting the VPN used to automatically switch me to using the VPN version of that server, using a dummy interface this didn't happen - it kept using the public ip address for this server. By setting iface in /etc/strongswan.d/charon/resolve.conf to my ethernet interface, it replaced the public DNS (1.1.1.1) on that interface with my VPN DNS servers, so things worked. Unfortunately, when the VPN went down, it didn't restore 1.1.1.1 (and I'd hoped might be possible with the resolvectl "revert" command - alas no) - it just removed all DNS on that link. I've almost zero knowledge in this space compared to Tobias, Lennart, etc - but it certainly feels like stuff that just worked with the old resolvconf has become quite the headache now - even if the new resolvectl resolvconf is better for a bunch of other reasons. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067897 Title: Ubuntu 24.04 does not install resolvconf uses systemd-resolved instead which is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/2067897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2056578] Re: [SRU - Noble] Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning
** Description changed: [Impact] Due to various changes in AppArmor, and the AppArmor policy for Tor Browser installed by the launcher, the default ibus/dbus abstractions don't include user-space access to DBUS/IBUS. This results in Tor Browser being unable to read keyboard input in userspace, resulting in a Non-Functional application. While Tor Browser *launcher* still works, the underlying Tor Browser inherits the AppArmor profile from torbrowser-launcher, hence this needs updated here. [Test Plan] This fix has already been tested and implemented in Debian upstream. However, it was not available before FeatureFreeze, and was not available in Debian until post-Noble release. This has already been tested manually by others, but as soon as a version with the patch present is available, a user should install the updated torbrowser-launcher package and the updated AppArmor profile should apply, and the program should work as usual. [Regression Potential] Extremely limited. This simply allows access to userspace dbus/ibus access for Keyboard input. Note that this exact same line being added to the AppArmor profile here exists in the Firefox AppArmor ruleset as well, and since Tor Browser and Firefox share much of the same code, this should have limited to no impact as this has existed in Firefox for a long time. + [Where problems could occur] + + The only thing that might happen is extra access to dbus/ibus interfaces + for input handling. However, as this change being added by SRU is + already in the Firefox apparmor profile, this shouldn't cause any + issues. + + [Other Info] This is already available in Debian Unstable, and also in Oracular due to the sync. [Bug 2056578] Re: Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Due to various changes in AppArmor, and the AppArmor policy for Tor Browser installed by the launcher, the default ibus/dbus abstractions don't include user-space access to DBUS/IBUS. + + This results in Tor Browser being unable to read keyboard input in + userspace, resulting in a Non-Functional application. While Tor Browser + *launcher* still works, the underlying Tor Browser inherits the AppArmor + profile from torbrowser-launcher, hence this needs updated here. + + [Test Plan] + This fix has already been tested and implemented in Debian upstream. However, it was not available before FeatureFreeze, and was not available in Debian until post-Noble release. + + This has already been tested manually by others, but as soon as a + version with the patch present is available, a user should install the + updated torbrowser-launcher package and the updated AppArmor profile + should apply, and the program should work as usual. + + [Regression Potential] + Extremely limited. This simply allows access to userspace dbus/ibus access for Keyboard input. + + Note that this exact same line being added to the AppArmor profile here + exists in the Firefox AppArmor ruleset as well, and since Tor Browser + and Firefox share much of the same code, this should have limited to no + impact as this has existed in Firefox for a long time. + + [Other Info] + This is already available in Debian Unstable, and also in Oracular due to the sync. + + Simon Quigley is handling the upload and prep of the SRU debdiff to + noble-updates as a favor to Thomas Ward who is having computer scuff at + the time of the uploading. + + + [Original Description] + I have installed tor browser v13.0.11 on 24.04 (noble). [Bug 2067579] Re: Webcam not working
Check the $ dkms status to see if the module was recorded by it, and see if there is source under /usr/src. Follow the dkms manual to remove it. Also, you can try remove the folder /lib/modules/6.5.0-1023-oem/updates/dkms/ directly and run $ sudo depmod -a again. Then do the reboot, to see if the module info gets update. I don't suggest to install any dkms on certified platform. [Bug 2066026] Re: [SRU] Klayout 0.28.15 segmentation fault on startup
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + Klayout 0.28.15 is completely incompatible with Python 3.12, and + segfaults on startup. Included patches attempted to increase the + supported version number, but the code itself was incompatible and it + simply would not run. + + Attempts to include a simple patch from upstream proved unsuccessful and + resulted in a complete FTBFS. This was due to the shifting of code in + other places prior to the commits of the patch, meaning the patch was + irrelevant without other pieces of code changed. Hence, the first + version of klayout that supported Python 3.12 was 0.28.16, released on + 12 February 2024. Unfortunately, it was not uploaded to Debian prior to + Feature Freeze/Debian Import Freeze, so it did not make it in-time. + + As reported by the reporter of this bug, no testing on the runtime was + done prior to release. So, while the build was successful, runs are + reproducibly unsuccessful. This package is, therefore, completely + useless in the archive as it stands unless it is updated to version + 0.28.16. + + [Test Case] + + * Install klayout + * Attempt to run klayout + + Expected: Application runs + Actual: Segmentation fault + + [What could go wrong] + + Looking into this application, it seems to be a Suggests of electronics- + asic-dev which is a metapackage for asic development, which installs + applications much like itself, i.e. for electronics engineers and others + who build electronic circuits. It doesn't appear to enhance any other + packages, meaning it has no *actual* reverse dependencies, nor does it + provide any libraries. + + It's hard to regress an application that simply does not function, and + considering it has no actual reverse dependencies, I'm having trouble + fathoming anything going wrong here other than 0.28.16 also failing to + run with further updates. :) + + [Other Information] + + While this is a point release and does concentrate on bug fixes, it does + include some "enhancements" as they're called on the changelog[1] that + may or may not be considered "features": + + * Enhancement: DRC enhancements related to touching edges + - New DRC function switches: "without_touching_corners", "without_touching_edges" to skip width and space errors at kissing corners and touching-edge configurations + - Kissing corners are now detected also in non-collinear edge configuration + * Enhancement: OASIS reader errors out on broken OASIS with duplicate CELLNAMEs + + While including features would normally require a Feature Freeze + exception or a backport, I would argue against it in this case as the + version in the development release of Ubuntu at this time is 0.29.1 + which is magnitudes newer and definitely, per the changelog[2] contains + many new features. + + Other options, such as simply patching for Python 3.12, have been + exhausted. No-change rebuilds also proved to be ineffective. Moving up + one point release as opposed to moving to the latest release seemed to + be the best compromise. Apologies for the diff being so large but, + unfortunately, carrying patches to make 0.28.15 Python 3.12 compatible + would have been more time-consuming and created a diff nearly as large. + + [1]https://www.klayout.de/development.html#0.28.16 + [2]https://www.klayout.de/development.html#0.29.1 + --- + Original bug report follows: + On Ubuntu 24.04, Klayout 0.28.15-1build5 crashes on startup. This is due to a bug described in the upstream issue https://github.com/KLayout/klayout/issues/1619, which shows up on systems using Python 3.12. [Bug 2064751] Re: [SRU] revert security-regression in Focal's libcrypto++

No, Version 0.9.4 is not planned to be backported to Jammy. Big updates like these do not happen often to stable releases. To get this fixed, the specific bug will be narrowed down and just the fix itself will need to be backported. [Bug 487720] Re: Restore fails with "Invalid data - SHA1 hash mismatch"
In my case it turns out that two of the volumes were truncated somehow. Not sure if this is the sort of filesystem corruption that can occur when a removable volume is disconnected without unmounting it, but that would probably make sense. Unfortunately the deja-dup GUI has no way to recover from this problem and gives you no options on how to skip the affected files, it just reports the difftar file name which is less than helpful. I had to go decrypt and look through the manifest as noted above to figure out which files needed to be skipped when restoring (in this case, there was only one file, a very large audio recording that was thankfully backed up elsewhere). Nor does duplicity or deja-dup do anything to detect that this problem might exist when adding incremental backups (the truncated volumes were in a full backup from two months ago with several incrementals since). In the appears that I can restore from the command line (the links in a comment above from *thirteen years ago* are obviously no longer valid) using the --exclude option to duplicity. Truly deja-dup is an overly simplified GUI, having some options and robustness is not a luxury when dealing with important data. Amazing that neither of these pieces of software seem to have improved since then. [Bug 2056372] Re: Enabling SPF checks with CHECK_RCPT_SPF doesn't work
Given that we're at LTS+1, this would seem to be a good point for a re- think on this piece of delta. I also think Dominic makes good points in comments #43 and #45, and the course of action seems logical to me as well. The delta's been proving time-intensive to maintain, and changes upstream not in our control are limiting what auto-detect functionality can be done. It may be helpful (and perhaps more maintainable), to improve the Exim4 docs in the Ubuntu Server Guide to describe how to do the SPF configuration manually.
