Hi Matthew, I have an Acer Aspire 5 and running Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy with AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with Radeon Vega. I get the Black screen on boot after installing updates about a week ago. will there be an update that will come through the normal update manager ? [Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)
I've been testing kernel 6.8.0-38 (from proposed) and while it's not fixing the problem completely, at least on my hardware it is significantly better. The flickering happened only once in 3 days and it was very brief (~1s) and I didn't have to do anything for it to stop. Previously I had to move the cursor from the lower portion of the screen for the flickering to stop. I can't recommend using kernel 6.8.0-38 since it shows unhealthy amount of warnings related to iommu. But assuming kernel team fixes the iommu issues, we might have a major relief with the following release. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062951 Title: Random flickering with Intel i915 on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2062951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064716] Re: gnome-terminal sometimes very dark after gnome unlock
Okay. Finally found the reproducer: it's the visual bell during screensaver. Attaching a screenshot. Reproducing: - Settings -> Accessibility -> Hearing -> Visual Alerts -> On (Flash the entire Window) - Open a gnome-terminal - type: xdg-screensaver activate; printf '\a' - Wake up the screensaver, and notice that the window in which there was a bell, is darker. Note that changing the Visual Alert to "Flash the entire screen" fixes the issue. It tried this just now on a different Ubuntu/Jammy, and the results are the same; 100% reproducible. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2024-06-15 21-47-11.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2064716/+attachment/5789927/+files/Screenshot%20from%202024-06-15%2021-47-11.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064716 Title: gnome-terminal sometimes very dark after gnome unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2064716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2069511] [NEW] drm on dual 4K@60Hz blank on one screen
Public bug reported: The scenario is two identical 4K-HDR@60Hz DP1.2 monitors plugged into their own TB3 docks plugged into two different TB4 ports on my laptop, and a closed laptop lid (eDP off) The expected behavior is for both my monitors to enumerate on boot, with mirrored kernel consoles to appear on boot, or as drm initializes, and then for gdm to present a login screen on one of the two monitors as part of an extended desktop across both screens side-by-side. What happens is that one of the monitors remains blank on boot, even after drm has initialized devices, and then as gdm loads, the opposite monitor comes to life, and the one that showed drm output during boot goes blank. Blank is off, not a lit black screen. The one that is off when gdm is loaded (on previously during boot) is actually where gdm is attempting to display the login prompt. The one that is now on is just lit with a solid black background, which is normal for the second monitor on a desktop extended across both screens. I am familiar with the login, so without seeing the actual login prompt, I can just login as if I could see it on the blank screen, and wayland loads up. Unfortunately even as wayland takes over and applies my display settings, there is no change and the primary display is still off. I see my desktop wallpaper and icon bar, and can right-click on the desktop and launch the Display Settings, which confirms that wayland thinks both displays are lit. To workaround the issue, and to make the primary display active, I just open display 1 settings and toggle the refresh from 60Hz to 30Hz, and then back to my desired 60Hz, and the screen that was off lights up. Both monitors are now active in 4K@60Hz, like the intended boot settings. Inspecting xrandr, wayland_info and drm_info shows that drm_info does not align with the other two outputs. I have attached the full outputs as xrandr.txt, wayland.txt and drm.txt respectively. The drm_info shows the preferred resolutions are correct, but for CRTC 1 (CRTC ID 167) it show the mode @30.00Hz, even though the monitor is running at @60Hz. imac@imac-X1-Yoga:~$ cat drm.txt | grep -A8 "CRTC 1" 485:│ ├───CRTC 1 486-│ │ ├───Object ID: 167 487-│ │ ├───Legacy info 488-│ │ │ ├───Mode: 3840x2160@30.00 driver phsync nvsync 489-│ │ │ └───Gamma size: 256 490-│ │ └───Properties 491-│ │ ├───"ACTIVE" (atomic): range [0, 1] = 1 492-│ │ ├───"MODE_ID" (atomic): blob = 389 493-│ │ │ └───3840x2160@30.00 driver phsync nvsync The exerpts from xrandr and wayland_info report the correct, running 60Hz on both monitors. imac@imac-X1-Yoga:~$ cat xrandr.txt | grep 3840 2:DP-5 connected 3840x2160+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm 3: 3840x2160 59.98*+ 41:DP-8 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm 42: 3840x2160 59.98*+ imac@imac-X1-Yoga:~$ cat wayland.txt | grep 3840 25: x: 3840, y: 0, scale: 2, 30: width: 3840 px, height: 2160 px, refresh: 59.996 Hz, 40: width: 3840 px, height: 2160 px, refresh: 59.996 Hz, 47: logical_x: 3840, logical_y: 0 48: logical_width: 3840, logical_height: 2160 54: logical_width: 3840, logical_height: 2160 Additionally, I see these messages in the journal which seem related: 3689:Jun 15 13:21:22 imac-X1-Yoga gnome-shell[3006]: Page flip failed: Failed to set mode 3840x2160 on CRTC 167: Invalid argument 3690:Jun 15 13:21:22 imac-X1-Yoga gnome-shell[3006]: Failed to post KMS update: Failed to set mode 3840x2160 on CRTC 167: Invalid argument 3695:Jun 15 13:21:22 imac-X1-Yoga gnome-shell[3006]: Page flip failed: Page flip of 167 failed, and no mode set available I am looking hard at i915/xe/drm as the culprit, especially given the conflicting output from drm_info after I toggle the monitors into the correct working configuration manually. I have another laptop (XPS 13 9380 with TB3 ports) where the monitors and docks work properly (expected behavior) so it does look to be isolated to how drm is working in this setup. Ah, the update manager doesn't "see" noble numbat, so whenever I check the update manager it says all is ok with the latest updates, and the upgrade option is never shown (while my option in the update file is "lts"), so according to the update manager noble numbat was never released. @Kip Thanks for the log. The kernel used there does not have my patch applied that I can tell - unless it is included in the Ubuntu kernel build already - but unlikely given that kernel is dated May 20th: 12:09:49.192706 [0.00] Linux version 6.8.0-35-generic (buildd@lcy02-amd64-020) (x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc-13 (Ubuntu 13.2.0-23ubuntu4) 13.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.42) #35-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon May 20 15:51:52 UTC 2024 (Ubuntu 6.8.0-35.35-generic 6.8.4) In my case I manually boot the image file with QEMU and install patched kernel builds into it (using ssh/scp/rsync), do an `apt update; apt upgrade` to prevent autopkgtest doing that in just the (temporary) overlay image it creates for each run. Then ensure the required GRUB menu entry will be used with 'grub-set-default' [0]. [0] grub-set-default "1>4" is the kind of syntax required; this would select the 5th "menuentry" from the 1st "submenu" (indexes begin at 0). The value is written into `/boot/grub/grubenv` that is read early when GRUB loads the generated grub.cfg at boot-time. To identify the correct value I do a manual count using this (one-line!) command: awk '{id=gensub(/.*(gnulinux-[^'"'"']*).*/,"\\1","g")};/menuentry /{prefix="";if(submenu){prefix=submenu ">";}print("ENTRY \"" prefix menu++ "\"",id)} /^submenu/{print("SUBMENU",++submenu,id);menu_saved=menu;menu=0}/^}/ && submenu {--submenu;menu=menu_saved}' /boot/grub/grub.cfg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056461 Title: autopkgtest-virt-qemu on noble images sometimes hangs doing copydown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/2056461/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My PC has no wifi capabilities. WHAT I EXPECT: When I insert the USB Bluetooth device I should simply be able to connect my earphones and use them without crackling sounds and/or messages that don't mean anything to me. WHAT HAPPENED IN STEAD: I purchased a (No Name) USB bluetooth 5.0 device. When I inserted the device the OS immediately picked it up. Before I connected any devices, mobile phone or earphones, I got the following message immediately: “Connection Failed. Activation of network connection failed.” When I switched on my bluetooth earphones, Jabra, after the usual pairing they connected and I could listen to music using VLC, however, I got a crackling noise every now and then which sometimes coincided with a display of “Connection Failed. Activation of network connection failed.” The sound quality was also not consistent, so, I returned the USB device assuming that it was faulty. I subsequently purchased a WINX 5.1 USB Bluetooth device. When I insert the device the OS immediately picks it up. Before I connect any devices, mobile phone or earphones, I get the following immediately: “Connection Failed. Activation of network connection failed.” When I switch on my bluetooth earphones , Jabra, after the usual pairing they connect and I can listen to music using VLC or Youtube using firefox. Every now and then there is a crackling sound which sometimes coincides with a display of “Connection Failed. Activation of network connection failed.” The music quality sound is good and is only affected by the crackling sound. It seems to me that the OS is trying to establish some connection, but to what ? ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bluetooth bluez usb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069503 Title: Connection failed report with no connection required To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/2069503/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2067945] Re: Restart after resume from suspend
I can explain your result. The issue is specifically a race condition with the lock screen triggering after the suspend sequence starts. The driver change that helps it flushes content during the suspend sequence to ensure engines are not running when suspend starts. By using pm utils you don't trigger the lock screen. The proper solution is the patch linked in the bug I referenced. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067945 Title: Restart after resume from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2067945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is there a way to get the upgrade process get the new version from noble-proposed too? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067071 Title: cannot upgrade from 23.10 to 24.04, error in _install_t64_replacement_packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/2067071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
