[Bug 2065180] Re: performance regression in dracut-install 060
Ooooh, right. The hook might want to call something like `depmod` against the modules. So, that's a reasonable thing for a user-configured hook to do, which means we can't break it in an SRU. It *would* still be nice to get the significant speedup you've got here, though. Could this change to `manual_add_modules` *only* apply to hooks installed by packages (ie: in /usr/share/initramfs-tools)? Those we *can* fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065180 Title: performance regression in dracut-install 060 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dracut/+bug/2065180/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2069741] Re: [amdgpu] Screen is flickering
Display cables matter a lot because they have to transmit gigabits per second and small imperfections can interrupt that randomly, leading to a temporarily black screen. The reason a cable might work on Windows but not Linux could be slightly different signalling, if for example Windows is using 24-bit colour and Linux using 30-bit. Then Linux would need more bandwidth to maintain a stable connection. But it could also just be a software bug. If you want to try installing the latest graphics test kernel then download these four deb files: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/drm-tip/2024-06-04/amd64/ and then install them at the same time: sudo dpkg -i *.deb You probably also need to have Secure Boot DISABLED in the BIOS in order to test such kernels. Since it's a test kernel it's not guaranteed to always work. --- Comment From vanessa.ba...@ibm.com 2024-06-19 16:28 EDT--- Hello! Thank you very much for your replies! (In reply to comment #16) > Hi, > > Thank you for the report! > > Do you mind testing and verify if you run into the same issue with the > latest Ubuntu kernel? > It should be 6.8.0-35.35 I upgraded all packages on the server and I'm currently on 6.8.0-35-generic. I also tore down all NFS (up to the point of uninstalling packages). And have tried running sosreport and I'm no longer encountering this issue. The reports get generated with no issues. No dumps are generated. (In reply to comment #17) > We would also like to look at the latest sosreport command that was run > before crashing, can you share the latest /tmp/sos. so that we > can inspect what is there? > > Thank you. Since I can no longer reproduce this I can dig around to see if I captured this information in any earlier instance of this issue. Is there any value in providing this information now? Even if I cannot recreate with the > GA kernel on my system(s). > > Is this really happening for you on an LPAR or in a zVM guest? (since > dbginfo also incl. zvm data)? [Bug 2065300] Re: [SRU] New upstream microrelease .NET 6.0.30 and SDK 6.0.130
SRU Verification Results: * Executed Test Case as described in #1983380 (bug mentioned in Test Case section) - All commands executed as expected. * Autopkgtest Results: - The only test that failed was 'release-version-sane', but the failure was not introduced by this upload. The test failed because it currently expects the packaged .NET version to be the same as the latest upstream .NET version. As there has already been another (Windows-only) upstream release (6.0.31), the test fails. - We have worked on modifying this test to a more realistic scenario that compares the current package version against any upstream current or previous versions, which will be released on the next .NET monthly update in July. - All the other tests were either SKIP (by design) or PASS. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-jammy verification-needed-mantic ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-jammy verification-done-mantic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065300 Title: [SRU] New upstream microrelease .NET 6.0.30 and SDK 6.0.130 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dotnet6/+bug/2065300/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On the Orico M.2 NVME SSD enclosure which claims to support UASP, trim did not work on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 install until a rule was added to /etc/udev/rules.d. [Bug 2038648] Re: package sosreport 4.4-1ubuntu0.18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed sosreport package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

[Bug 2060437] Re: The module ib_ipoib does not load automatically on ubuntu server 24.04
Hi @shangsong2, Sorry for the late reply. I'm not an expert in IB, but after some investigation it seems that the module ib_ipoib as being a ULP (Upper Layer Protocol) does not get loaded automatically by the presence of any hardware interface. It needs to either be loaded manually or by some boot services. In Ubuntu this functionality seems to be provided by the 'rdma-core' package, which provides the systemd service 'rdma-hw.target', which in turn should load all the modules from the following file, amongst others, containing by default the 'ib_ipoib' module: /etc/rdma/modules/infiniband.conf Could you please install the 'rdma-core' package, reboot the system and check whether the modules are loaded? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060437 Title: The module ib_ipoib does not load automatically on ubuntu server 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2060437/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2067742] Re: CVE-2024-36041: ksmserver: Unauthorized users can access session manager
** Description changed: [ Impact ] On May 31, 2024, KDE published a security advisory for plasma-workspace: https://kde.org/info/security/advisory-20240531-1.txt This was assigned CVE-2024-36041, and affects all stable versions of Kubuntu (and the Ubuntu Studio releases with KDE Plasma). Overview from the advisory: KSmserver, KDE's XSMP manager, incorrectly allows connections via ICE based purely on the host, allowing all local connections. This allows another user on the same machine to gain access to the session manager. A well crafted client could use the session restore feature to execute arbitrary code as the user on the next boot. The fix for this is applying https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma- workspace/-/commit/da843d3fdb143ed44094c8e6246cfb8305f6f09f (iceauth is already installed by default). [ Test Plan ] Ensure your system is fully updated. Confirm the vulnerability is present: 1. Install build-essential and libice-dev (for use in the POC). 2. Download the POC: `wget https://launchpadlibrarian.net/735809918/poc-CVE-2024-36041.c` 3. Compile the POC: `gcc -o poc-CVE-2024-36041 ./poc-CVE-2024-36041.c -lICE` 4. Run the POC with a path to the ICE socket belonging to the current user. For example: `./poc-CVE-2024-36041 local/:/tmp/.ICE-unix/1878` 5. Observe the following output: "Authentication not needed, vulnerable!" Install the updates from the security-proposed pocket: 1. Add the PPA: `sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-security-proposed/ppa` 2. Install the updates for plasma-workspace from the PPA: -Noble and Mantic: `sudo apt -y install plasma-workspace` -Jammy: `sudo apt -y install plasma-workspace breeze kwin-x11 libksysguardformatter1` + Noble and Mantic: `sudo apt -y install plasma-workspace` + Jammy: `sudo apt -y install plasma-workspace breeze kwin-x11 libksysguardformatter1` + Focal: `sudo apt -y install plasma-workspace breeze kwin-x11` Open Firefox. Confirm session restore and logout work as intended, and that the vulnerability is fixed: 1. Log out of the session and log back in. Confirm Firefox opens as expected. 2. Run the POC again, this time it will be a different socket. Example: `./poc-CVE-2024-36041 local/:/tmp/.ICE-unix/5920` 3. Observe the following output: `None of the authentication protocols specified are supported. Connection failed! This probably means you're safe.` [ Where problems could occur ] The iceauth binary being installed means we do not need https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/commit/1d5aa1d27bff87b2d242ed759cfb2ce15a5c3de7 as well. [Bug 1970236] Re: Grub2 bios-install defaults to BIOS disk drivers, may break large disk boot
Hi mkukri, I'm using an HP Elitebook 8760W, released in 2011. It's great fast, powerful, two internal SATA slots, very large RAM, and carbon footprint largely amortized by now. And it's i7 is still largely fast and powerful enough for most usages, and I don't see the need for buying a new machine, and I would instantly recommend a similar refurbished machine over brand new cheap ones. Heck, it was a Rolls Royce in 2011! But its UEFI BIOS is a prototype (it warns / displays so and can't be fixed), not reliable, and hackable by rootkits and other malwares. OTOH, it works and boots fine with Grub native drivers, and I haven't had any problem since I figured the default 32-bit BIOS drivers out (april 2022), fixed the problem and posted this message. The Grub config wasn't altered through OS and/or Grub updates / upgrades, not even upgrading from 20.04 to 22.04, so I guess I'm safe enough. Too bad that Grub doesn't autodetect and autofix the BIOS-Grub / BIOS driver on disks > 2TiB though, since that's a guaranteed failure. While using native drivers is only a hazard - and not even one as far as I'm concerned! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970236 Title: Grub2 bios-install defaults to BIOS disk drivers, may break large disk boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1970236/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
