[Bug 2056461]

2024-07-13 Thread asmadeus
Created attachment 306570
tenative fix to allow reads past cached size for direct IO

Ok so the attached patch (0001-WIP-tenative-fix-to-allow-reads-past-
cached-size-for.patch) fixes my reproducer at least, I think it'd "good
enough" for testing.

In practice it's probably missing some edge cases and I haven't tested
it at all besides my reproducer, so here be dragons.

Next to make it a bit more correct and we're good to go; but I'm
surprised this is specific to 9p honestly... Just reading from an
already open file in a loop would likely also not notice external
appends (on another client) to the file - if it works, how does it work?

Thanks for the patch

That appears to trust the IO worked too much? I see the reads actually
returning 0 bytes all the time past the end of the file despite the 9p
rread returning 0

I'll try to look at the code over the weekend

2024-07-13 Thread asmadeus
okay that is because 9p sets SREQ_CLEAR_TAIL, adding this goes one step
closer:

diff --git a/fs/9p/vfs_addr.c b/fs/9p/vfs_addr.c
index a97ceb105cd8..33087298e0be 100644
--- a/fs/9p/vfs_addr.c

+   __set_bit(NETFS_SREQ_CLEAR_TAIL, &subreq->flags);

netfs_subreq_terminated(subreq, err ?: total, false);

unfortunately at this point we get -ENODATA instead of read returning 0; so we
just need to return 0 instead and that'll probably work™

ran out of time again, will try to continue when able...

Public bug reported:

Some Flatpaks are not savings settings/preferences
right now qbittorrent is a good example ie set settings/preferences for that

install back to default settings, Only after I remove the flatpak
version did the .Deb version return to function as expected.

[Bug 2056555] Re: Allow bitbake to create user namespace

2024-07-13 Thread Ferry Toth
Yes, it seems what we need is an app in a non-user writable area (i.e.
as part of the system) that disables the network for a child process and
an apparmor profile that allows it to do so. Then call that app from
bitbake.

That sounds a lot better than asking user's 100's permissions they don't
understand through a GUI (as android does), as they will just click yes
else the app won't work.

Add an --encoded-package-metadata parameter to ld and change dpkg to
specify -Wl,--encoded-package-metadata= instead of spec
file. PPA build for it:

[Bug 1982553] Re: Search domains not working after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04

2024-07-13 Thread Didi Kohen
I know this is really old, but I encountered this just now, I have the
same issue in two different computers with Ubuntu 22.04 (both upgraded
from 20.04), and the /etc/resolv.conf had just a "nameserver
127.0.0.53", I suspect this is an issue with the upgrade.

[Bug 2073034] [NEW] i cannot upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04

2024-07-13 Thread igor sverchkov
Public bug reported:

i have some message

Не удалось рассчитать обновление системы

Во время расчёта обновлений возникла нерешаемая проблема.

Вероятно это было вызвано из-за того что:
 * Неофициальные пакеты программного обеспечения не поддерживаются Ubuntu

[Bug 2012430] Re: attribute breaks dashes

2024-07-13 Thread Kevin Wilke
Thanks for your response. I can confirm that the problem does not happen
with Ubuntu 24.04. It does happen with 23.10.1 and below.

I'm not sure about filing a bug report with Mozilla. I think they'll
blame it on the Ubuntu modifications because the bug doesn't happen on
any version of Debian, only Ubuntu and derivatives. I'm glad it's fixed,
though.

Alternatively, run:

[Bug 2072581] Re: sssd 2.9.4-1 fails to populate krb creds when set to FILE:/run/user/uid/krb5cc

2024-07-13 Thread Karl Grindley
I have a shim workaround to manage/consolidate all krb ticket caches
under systemd that now works with the user tmpfs directories. This
drastically improves the user experience to that to MS Windows for all
suers that ssh/gdm login, with smartcard/pcscd optimizations. Perhaps
some day I will document it and publish it, or attempt to see if we can
de-fracture the kerberos stack on linux in general.

we can close this ticket.

[Bug 2072771] Re: Update gnome-remote-desktop to 46.3

2024-07-13 Thread Jeremy Bícha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --
This is a new stable release in the GNOME 46 series

  It includes a crash fix

Changes since the current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/compare/46.2...46.3

  Test Cases
  --
Complete the Basic RDP Test Case and Basic Remote Login Test Case from
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/RemoteDesktop
-

  What Could Go Wrong
  ---
RDP Sharing is a new feature for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as part of GNOME 42.
(Previously only VNC Sharing was offered.)

RDP Sharing can be used for providing remote support so it's important
that this feature works well because it may be difficult for the remote
admin to fix issues in person.

gnome-remote-desktop is part of GNOME Core and falls under the GNOME
  Stable Release Update microrelease exception

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

  Other Info
  --
- gnome-remote-desktop 46.3 is stuck in oracular-proposed LP: #2072768 because
of a build test failure. However, that build test failure does not affect
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and it will be fixed before Ubuntu 24.10 "Oracular" is
released.

and fixed in 1.2.1 which was just released.

I'm a little confused how the tests were failing in Debian months ago
but not Ubuntu 24.04 LTS when I think they both had pipewire 1.0.5-1

[Bug 2073029] [NEW] Impossible to unlock session on Kubuntu live ISO

2024-07-13 Thread Norbert Peters
Public bug reported:

I am using latest Kubuntu live ISO kubuntu-24.04-desktop-amd64.iso

It's impossible to unlock the session once it was locked. To lock the
screen go to the KDE start menu. Also KDE might lock the screen
automatically after some time when going into sleep mode.

From using a tty I know for sure that the username is kubuntu and the
password is empty.

But kscreenlocker always says "Unlocking failed".

On opensuse (openSUSE-Leap-15.6-KDE-Live-x86_64-Build13.280-Media.iso)
everything is working. The lock screen there doesn't even show a
password field but only a button. Perhaps you want to take a look.

On debian KDE everything is working too because there they have a
default password which is not empty (it's 'live').

The problem is only about unlocking a session. Logging in works fine.

[Bug 2021956] Re: crash cups-proxyd

2024-07-13 Thread DiagonalArg
Same problem, clean install of Ubuntu 24.04. As with @robert-markula,
cups is installed both by apt (version 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu7.2) and as a snap
(version 2.4.10-1).

I'm not clear which one I should remove.

[Bug 2067043] Re: Wrong Battery Reading after Wake from S3 Sleep since Kernel 6.8

2024-07-13 Thread Jonathan Wheeler
I also have been experiencing this exact same issue (on the same Lenovo
hardware) from 6.8.0 (both official Ubuntu and mainline kernels) through
to 6.9.3 (mainline).

Mainline seems to have skipped a number of 6.9.x releases so the next
available 6.9 kernel after 6.9.3 is 6.9.9.

The good new is, 6.9.9 has fixed this problem for me at least.

[Bug 2066902] Re: Night Light occasionally gets stuck

2024-07-13 Thread Kevin Keijzer
I've been testing all these packages since last Monday, and this morning
night light was stuck again when I unlocked my screen. So I'm afraid
this doesn't fix the issue.

I also haven't seen any activity in the upstream ticket of people
actually confirming the issue was fixed.
