[Bug 1032299] Re: REGRESSION: Display does not wake after suspend on E6500

2014-07-16 Thread =JeffH
I recently upgraded to 12.04.4 on my Dell E6500 (on which I had
10.04.4 running quite smoothly for years) and this bug has bitten me and
so far none of the resolutions I've found tried via various forums has
worked to resolve it. I am quite sad. :(

[Bug 539477] Re: Video out hot key sends super + p + return on many upcoming Dell HP systems

2011-10-14 Thread =JeffH
Why was distributing the fix for this apparently Declined for Lucid ?

Why can't the gnome-settings-daemon (g-s-d, gsd) fix be backported to
10.04 ? It's a LTS release and I assume there's a bunch of folks who'll
use it well into 2012.

thanks,

[Bug 722377] Re: [Firmware Bug]: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller. Switch display Fn button not working on Dell e6400

2011-08-29 Thread =JeffH
Hi folks,

This bug also a problem on the Dell E6500, and possibly the entire E6xxx
series (as well as precision, Inspiron, and other more recent Dells).
There are many questions about it in ubuntuforums.org if you search
around, plus this Bug #722377 essentially is a duplicate of..

switching to external VGA monitor does not work anymore on dell precision M4400
and Ubuntu 10.04
Bug #585258
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/585258

I've recently posted this..

[ubuntu] 10.4 upgrade - Fn F8 (external monitor flip) not working (post #7)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11176214postcount=7

..where I note that it appears that the scancodes that are issued by the
Dell E6500 keyboard are now different than the ones that were issued by
my Dell D820 (and on which fn+f8 external monitor switch works with
10.04.x).

Is the keyboard driver and its default keymaps bound into the kernel? If
so that'd explain Lucio Crusca's (in Bug #585258) observations of the
behavior being different with only booting different kernel revs.

For a workaround is it possible to dynamically load a new keymap that'd
fix this problem?

Please, please, please, can we fix this -- I have to do the external
monitor switch thing all the time and I really want to get my E6500
working properly. thanks!!!

[Bug 503161] Re: mouse pointer disappears after coming back from suspend

2010-03-28 Thread JeffH
Bryce,

I believe you inappropriately closed this bug. The original reported DID
respond with their findings. I have seen no indication of the commitment
of the DRM code to the lucid release kernel.

I too am experiencing this bug with a fresh install of lucid on
3/28/2010. Please re-open the original bug for proper follow-up. Let me
know what additional data I can provide.

[Bug 44562] Re: [nvidia] Switch user causes screen resolution to change

2008-07-29 Thread JeffH
Bryce,

You have made a mockery of this bug reporting system by first trying to
close this bug without resolution (only an assumption of resolution) and
now determining which package the bug should go against without proper
triage or problem determination.

In any case it probably does not matter as this issue either does not
effect that large of a population and/or does not warrant attention from
the Ubuntu community. Unfortunately this issue was a deal breaker for me
and I have had to move on away from Hardy.

If in the future you need my assistance to work on this bug, please let
me know. I am sure I can reproduce it on my system(s) again.

[Bug 44562] Re: Switch user causes screen resolution to change

2008-07-17 Thread JeffH
Still no success. I noticed there were duplicate sections in my
xorg.conf file so I cleaned it up some and restarted my xserver. Still
nothing. I get 640x480 when trying to switch users.

Any other ideas? Should I assume this bug is really not all that
pervasive and only limited to a very small subset of users or do very
few Ubuntu users have multi-user setups? There seems to be so little
activity on this issue.

[Bug 174874] Re: IPP Printing fails if server is identified by name rather than address

2007-12-19 Thread JeffH
I would like to confirm this behavior. Using system-config-printer to
install an IPP print queue on my client (fresh Gutsy install) creates a
URI using the server's (upgraded Feisty to Gutsy) hostname. Using this
URI fails to print. Substituting the IP address for the hostnames
corrects printing issues.

Using the host command on the client to resolve the server's IP
address works fine.

Can I provide any troubleshooting documents?

[Bug 154446] gapcmon close only minimizes window

2007-10-19 Thread JeffH
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gapcmon

gapcmon has a number of options to enable tray icons. They can either be
enabled for the entire monitor - allowing the browsing of multiple UPS
monitors - or by individual UPS monitors. In either case, choosing to
close a gapcmon window under Gutsy only minimizes the window but keeps
the tray icon intact. Selecting quit terminates gapcmon and all tray
icons.

Under Fiesty, hitting the close button would close the window, but the
tray icon(s) would remain. I believe this is the desired behavior.

System is a Ubuntu Gutsy install. UPS is a Smart-UPS 700.

and here is my quicksynergy and synergy conf files...

quicksynergy.conf:
Left -t40
KeepRunning 1

synergy.conf:
section: screens
godzilla:
***-t40:
end
section: links
godzilla:
left = ***-t40
***-t40:
right = godzilla
end

I have observed that numerous restarts of QS MAY get it working again.
Also - Synergy works fine from shell.
