You partially right, aldebx. Compiz is essential for crash. But Unity is
not. Under Metacity I found no crashes today.

Disconfirm 4.3.0-040300-generic kernel at least for "(EE)
TouchListenerGone: couldn't allocate events" crash. Same for windows
animations - only turning off compositing/OpenGL support at all leading
to no crash, any else I tried still crashing Xorg.

[Bug 1077686] [NEW] Browsing upnp resource recursively leads to error and stop in browsing

2012-11-11 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Public bug reported:

Hello, have a nice day, and here's my story.

===

I have installed mediatomb on my Debian box and configured it.
I have added lots of stuff there (approx. 700 Gb) of content.

===

I have enabled UPNP plugin in banshee.
Banshee recognized my MediaTomb service and started to browse it.
Then, when it comes to some specific file, it stopped browsing. That file is
always the same, cause the number of videos, indexed by banshee, is always the
same too.
When I run banshee with --debug, I got this:

[Bug 844543] [NEW] compiz: segfault at libanimation.so triggered by deadbeef

2011-09-07 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Public bug reported:

I found strange problem.
Packages installed:
compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty2
xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1
deadbeef 0.5.1-1~natty~ppa1

When I in DeadBeeF player open "add location" dialog and input something
in text field, after OK button pressed compiz is instantly crashes
(restarts). In logs I see following strings about this:

/var/log/syslog.2.gz:Sep 6 09:41:55 fqc-book kernel: [123902.717501]

2010-10-21 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Hey, I just discovered, my Ethernet card did not work if power adapter not
connected! Its look like working, even speed negotiated and ethtool tells "link
is up and running", but no any packets going thru eth0!
Is it the same kind of trouble like "bad sleep on battery" discussed here?

Dismissing my comment #86. I re-tested 2.6.34 kernel and its seems to work good
for now. So, confirming regression start at 2.6.35 branch.
And, since my Ethernet not working on battery power even with 2.6.33, it is is
another bug, not common for this one.

It's look like problem still exists with 2.6.36 kernel but have less
hang-up chance. I can't figure out the exact case for hang-up. Maybe it
is related to sound activity.

Installed 2.6.33 kernel - can't hang-up any more ;)
So, bug (regression) is in 2.6.34 kernel branch.

[Bug 640100] Re: Maverick fails to wake up on Samsung N150

2010-10-18 Thread Юрий Чудновский
I notified what suspend is successful then netbook in on line power when
suspending. It comes to sleep fast and clean, and come back good both on line
power and battery.
But on battery power it suspend much-much slower, video signal is lost before
powering off backlight and monitor displaying color lines (its like "no signal"
on external monitors), and after suspend there is no way to come back alive
both on battery and line power.
On 10.04 both cases of suspend was on same behaviour.

Confirm "acpi_backlight=vendor" lead backlight go crazy. Simplest way to
stop flicking is to switch on virtual console (for example Ctrl+Alt+F1)
and back.

[Bug 714430] [NEW] Xorg crash on deactivate etternal display while internal switched off

2011-02-07 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I used ubuntu-x-swat ppa for get updated video driver, and found it has useful
feature: displays activates/deactivates just on attach/deattach dsub (vga)
cable to my netbook. It's cool and useful for me, but one bug is annoying me:
in home I don't use internal netbook display and fully switching to external
(because of compiz can't run then external display resolution is "too high" -
seems out of video memory (while videocard is actually uses system memory) to
handle composite output 1024x600 and 1680x1050 simultaneously).
Netbook successfully switches ON external 20" display and switches OFF internal
10" when I connecting cable.
But when I disconnect external monitor cable, Xorg is instantly crashes. No
matter if LID is open or closed.

[Bug 376359] [NEW] Truncating NetBIOS name don't work

2009-05-13 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

register_name: NetBIOS name VSERVER-TERMINAL is too long. Truncating to

But, VSERVER-TERMINA did not seen in network, works only by IP address.
Manual renaming hostname, for example, to v-terminal and restarting samba
solves a problem - computer reveals in net.
But it is still bug, I just not sure - it is really a bug of nmbd or some other

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: SSD stall during boot

2009-12-07 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Telling kernel libata.force=noncq during boot-time from liveUSB had no
effect for me - still got hangups on the same place. It is interesting, that
this happens only after X and gdm is starting. Don't know why really.
Now I got this: booting into single-user mode gave an interesting
result:after getting onto root shell, in about a minute I got a message
about exception Emask, DRQ etc. But after it - another thing, that got my
interest - a message, telling that "Starting init crypto disks... [OK]"
So, my guess that it's really there - in crypto disks.

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: SSD stall during boot

And yes- it's in libata!!
SSD is eating brains only when libata.dma>=4

haha, the speed of devise suffers well!
During bootup kernel says (in case of libata.dma={<=3}), that my SSD
(AAO-110L, 8Gb SSD-PAMM, Samsung) is in (!) PIO4 transfer data mode. It is
REALLY slow.

hdparm -tT /dev/sda
Cached reads: 370 MB/sec
Buffered reads: 2.3 MB/sec

And it is reading - do I have to talk 'bout writing?
Where to dig now, when the reason of problem seems 2 be localized?

Btw libata.dma=3 do not make SSD work in DMA mode though!
There's something to be told to developers, cause I stay on Jaunty so far
this stall goes away!

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: SSD stall during boot

2009-12-09 Thread Юрий Аполлов
A small thing to keep in mind:
1. I load Karmic - and got this bug. Kernel 2.6.31 as to my mind
2. I load Karmic and 2.6.32 - still got this bug
3. I load Jaunty - and got not this bug. Kernel 2.6.28
4. I load Jaunty and 2.6.32 - and got NOT this bug
Though it's NOT a kernel bug I guess. Otherwise anyone could reproduce it on
Jaunty easy.
So, I repeat, it's NOT a direct kernel bug - there's something that we miss.
Something makes an SSD hangup when in DMA. What could it be?? If it's not
kernel - than what? A userspace process, that stalls SSD? Specifically what?
Really - maybe if that one is killed - there would be no hangups? Or anyway
we could write a bug report in correct place - neither on a Launchpad, nor
in kernel bugs section.
That was my thoughts. IMHO.

I'm about to please somebody to look distinctly at upstart - can it be
removed (I have no info now on this - I'm still on 9.04). Can somebody try
removing?

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: SSD stall during boot

2009-12-09 Thread Юрий Аполлов
2 Scott:
How could it be: same program (here I mean kernel version), same hardware -
and different behaviour on different systems of Ubuntu. Don't you think that
it would be rather strange, if 2 things work here and not there - than it's
not because that things gone bad, and the reason is somewhere in
environment?
Nevertheless I think your idea is interesting - can anyone here that is
sitting on 9.10 with SSD test this workaround?

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: SSD stall during boot

2009-12-10 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Such an interesting thing: if only I launch parted from liveusb - I
immediately got our errors. Got same using cfdisk. And - it may be
interesting and important - it happens when I just run parted, when I exit
parted - and when I run/exit cfdisk too.
BUT!
Once I've removed libparted and all packets that depend upon it - and the
noise has gone away! No more blinking of SSD-indicator. WOW!I still got DMA
though. Interesting, I guess. Can anyone approve my find?

[Bug 499324] [NEW] ddjvu -format=pdf makes blank documents

2009-12-21 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Public bug reported:

When making
ddjvu -format=tiff in.djvu out.tiff
and then
tiff2pdf out.tiff -o out.pdf
everything goes right and outgoing pdf is readable. But when it's made in a way
ddjvu -format=pdf in.djvu out.pdf
then a blank document is the result. Actually, not fully blank: there are
pages, their count is right, but no content on them can be seen, as to file
properties. It can be seen in evince that the creator of the document is:
libtiff / tiff2pdf - 20060323 / d
BTW I've downloaded Windows binary - and it's OK in it!
Also I've tried djview to convert djvu to pdf - same results on both platforms:
negative @ Ubuntu, positive @ Vista.
There, I got
diff -a bad.pdf good.pdf > outfile
and saw that the result of diff'ing is about 70 Kb. So, it's not the whole file
- it's only a header or something I guess, I attach a difffile.

[Bug 499324] Re: ddjvu -format=pdf makes blank documents

2009-12-23 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Ok, I'll attach it now. And I got a difference in a more user-friendly way.
It's in:

stream
q 923.7600 0. 0. 696.2400 0. 0. cm /Im1 Do Q
Actually in signs of point (.). In bad file there are comma (,) signs. That's
the reason, I guess. And I found the difference there (in the end of file:

/ID[]

But I guess it's relative to different files - they are different, of
course =)

Strange, but true: I've installed djvulibre-bin on liveusb - and it
successfully converted my djvu to pdf and I was able to read it! So, it's
somewhere in my system - but how can I guess where???
It's bug anyway, and it's gotta be gone =)
So, I'm ready to listen to guesses. I can give you information of any kind -
this bug sincirelly interested me =))

Guess you're right, but I had no customizations with djvulibre at all -
download, install and use! =)
But it'll be helpful if it'll be converted to a question. Btw, shall I

[Bug 480019] Re: Unable to print a particular PDF on Samsung ML-2010

2009-12-26 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Got some kind of trouble then try to print png image (Samsung ML-1640
printer). Victor's log:

> E [10/Nov/2009:23:41:07 -0600] [Job 136] SpliX Cannot open job
> E [10/Nov/2009:23:41:07 -0600] [Job 136] SpliX Error while rendering the
> request. Check the previous message

lead me to think - my problem is from same source:

E [26/Dec/2009:12:34:17 +0200] [Job 20] SpliX Cannot open job
E [26/Dec/2009:12:34:17 +0200] [Job 20] SpliX Error while rendering the
request. Check the previous message
E [26/Dec/2009:12:34:17 +0200] [Job 20] Job stopped due to filter errors;
please consult the error_log file for details.

I looked in /tmp and find some files with gs_* names and lp user owner
(and lp group), having -rw--- (600) file permissions. This files
seems was created by CUPS subsystem (filter).

Changing file permission on non-zero sized gs_* file and opening it in
pdf viewer allowed me to get image printed, but this is "crutch" :)

I confirm it. There is more: in fullscreen wine (windows) apps (games)
pulling mouse to screen edge (left or right) issue double mouse pointers
- from app and from system. Even if no actions on mouse-to-edge is
configured.

[Bug 373121] [NEW] strace locks up Xorg?

2009-05-07 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Public bug reported:

I notified in some condition segfaulting of system-config-printer and
tryed to strace it. But after adding -v option, I get locked desktop on
some point of system-config-printer starting up. This point is not
static. Nothing is working in GUI except mouse moving, keyboard LEDs
react on *Lock keys pressed, and I cat switch to console to kill strace.
And 'kill -9 `pidof strace`' is needed to terminate it. After kill,
desktop back to functional, and system-config-printer show up and runs.
While lockup, programs seems to continue its work (for example, vlc
still playing a radio), CPU load is low as normal.

Example of console output on strace after kill:

read(4,

Re: [Bug 445852] Re: devkit-disks-probe-ata-smart causes HSM Violations on SSD, and potential hardware death

2010-02-23 Thread Юрий Аполлов
adamski, if possible - try to renew (actually change) firmware. For a couple
of times. I got such troubles with Karmik on my Acer Aspire One 8Gb SSD.
Then many times zeroed it, ten (or more) times one-by-one firmwared - and
now it's running fine. Jaunty.

[Bug 445852] Re: devkit-disks-probe-ata-smart causes HSM Violations on SSD, and potential hardware death

2010-01-29 Thread Юрий Аполлов
It's told here in launchpad, that this bug has a patch. But I cannot see
it in usual way - there are instructions, but no patch. Can anyone write
a patch-script to work this problem around??

[Bug 432497] Re: Installing Karmic 20090917 on Acer Aspire One freezes on detecting filesystems

2009-11-11 Thread Юрий Аполлов
Btw it's not a kernel trouble - I've made a vanilla kernel, but ssubj hasn't
gone. Strange.
And 9.04 works fine (that's where I'm writing this).
First I decided it's my HDD's problem (I got same errors when it was
uncorrectly firmwared), but it's not - Jaunty shows nice performance. Neither
update nor my searches had no effect. Dunno what todo =(
P.S.: I got re-firmwared my SSD for a couple of times to make these bugs go-go
away, but unsuccessful.
P.P.S.: When I firmware my SSD, the DOS program that make it tells me, that
there are 69 bads on it. Guess it may be a reason, if some program tries to
access ALL block on the disks. And another thought is that some program (maybe
GRUB2 - can anyone check it??) tries to make access to first couple of sectors
and - ta da!!
And there's another thing to know: this happens even when gparted is launched.
And status message, that is been shown that terrible time is: "Searching disks
for partitions". SO, guess, there's the reason. Somewhere there!

[Bug 440465] Re: removing pulseaudio breaks sound control

2009-11-12 Thread Юрий Чудновский
Having this problem too. 5.1 output in Pulseaudio makes sound "damaged",
so I removed PA. ALSA sound is clean, but no volume control applet, so I
can't control volume from my keyboard (there is volume whell).
