[Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers

2024-07-30 Thread Ubfan
Today's Ubuntu 24.04 update Brought in from the graphics-drivers PPA the
Nvidia driver 555.58.02, updating the previously manually installed 555.
In additon, the ubuntu-drivers list output now lists the 550, 550-open,
555, and 555-open drivers, as does the Sotware & Updates/Additional
Drivers. There still is a deprecated hwdb warning (bug 2037004) when
ubuntu-drivers list is run, but at least the expected drivers are now
listed.

[Bug 2037004] Re: warnings in terminal with software-properties-gtk

2024-07-30 Thread Ubfan
With today's Nvidia 555.58.02 update for Ubuntu 24.04 (which had been
previously directly installed) from the graphics-drivers PPA, the output
of ubuntu-drivers now lists the 550, 550-open, 555, and 555-open drivers
as it should for my RTX 3080 hardware. The Software/Additional
Drivers tab also lists those drivers, and claims the 555 installation is
manual (as it was). The choice buttons are active, not greyed out. The
hwdb deprecated warnings are output 12 times, one for each listed
driver.

[Bug 2061373] Re: [Lenovo Ubuntu 24.04 Bug] Print grub message before the uefi POST screen disappears in Ubuntu24.04 Beta

2024-07-30 Thread Jeff Lane 
Just to be clear also, can you retry this on the latest 24.04 daily
image, and also on 24.10 and see if the same thing happens on either of
these? This was first reported pre-release and there have been many
overall updates since then, so lets check the current images just to be
sure this is, indeed still an issue.

[Bug 2068033] Re: [MIR] python-typeguard

2024-07-30 Thread Myles Penner
** Description changed:

- **Edit: Updating Debian to 4.2.1 for bug fix. WIP.
+ **Edit: Debian updated their version to 4.3.0 to fix bug. WIP.

  [Availability]
The package python-typeguard is already in Ubuntu universe. Link to package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard

  [Rationale]
The package python-typeguard is required in Ubuntu main as it is a dependency
for python-inflect, which is already in main
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-inflect).

  [Security]
No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past.
python-typeguard does not place executables in in /sbin and usr/sbin.
python-typeguard does not install services, timers, or recurring jobs.
python-typeguard does not run as a service or require special isolation
features.
python-typeguard does not open privledged ports or expose external endpoints.
python-typeguard does not contain extensions to security sensitive software
and does not contain any cryptography functionality.

  [Quality assurance – functional/usage]
The package works well right after install.

  [Quality assurance – maintenance]
The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have
too many long-term and critical open bugs*:
  - Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/+bugs
  - Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=python-typeguard
  - Upstream: https://github.com/agronholm/typeguard/issues
*Note the package has a FTBFS bug in the Debian bug reports related to a
failure to build for Trixie as linked above.

  [Quality assurance – testing]
python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94%
(https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master).
The package appears to run autopkgtest as well as unit tests as build.

  [Quality assurance – packaging]
A debian/watch file is present and works.
The debian/control file defines a “maintainer” field.
  Recent build log:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438
This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies.
The package will not be installed by default
Packaging and build is easy, see debian/rules:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-typeguard/-/blob/debian/4.1.5-1/debian/rules?ref_type=tags

  [UI Standards]
  Application is not end-user facing.

  [Dependencies]
No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main.

  [Standards compliance]
This package correctly follows FHS and Debian policy

  [Maintenance/Owner]
The owning team is Debian Python Team as they were the uploaders of the
source package to Ubuntu
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1). This team is
already subscribed to the package.
This package does not use static builds.
This package does not use vendored code.
This package is not rust based.
This package has not been build in the past 3 months – most recent is January
2024:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438.

  [Background information]
This package provides run-time type checking for functions defined with
argument type annotations. This package is a requirement for python-inflect,
which is already part of main.
  Upstream name: python-typeguard

[Bug 2051935] Re: [OVN] SNAT only happens for subnets directly connected to a router

2024-07-30 Thread Ilia Baikov
Hello, Giuseppe Petralia
Your submission is completely right. Just found out that SNAT not working when
forwarded to another attached network. My use case is to connect instance to
management vlan using routers. With ML2/OVS it works perfect (1 router for
private network for instances, 1 router for vlan network where management
devices). Also probably static routes are ignored.

[Bug 2072524] Re: Allow non-owned lockfile writes in /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/

2024-07-30 Thread Lena Voytek
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ The default apparmor profile for swtpm blocks access to libvirt TPM2
+ NVRAM state lockfiles. This causes denials for users who want to view
+ TPM states via swtpm's socket API.
+
+ The fix for this should be backported so print-states for libvirt TPM
+ works for users by default.
+
+ The issue is fixed by adding non-owner write permissions to the
+ /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ directory.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ $ sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade -y
+ $ sudo apt install swtpm virt-manager apparmor -y
+
+ # Create a vm with virt-manager that uses a TPM2 device and start it
+ # A directory will show up in /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ using the vm's ID, such
as:
+ # /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ab930d41-1600-4987-bfb0-34107be38cc5
+
+ # Before fix
+ $ sudo swtpm socket --print-states --tpmstate
dir=/var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ab930d41-1600-4987-bfb0-34107be38cc5/tpm2,mode=0600
+ swtpm: SWTPM_NVRAM_Lock_Dir: Could not open lockfile: Permission denied
+
+ # After fix
+ $ sudo swtpm socket --print-states --tpmstate
dir=/var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/ab930d41-1600-4987-bfb0-34107be38cc5/tpm2,mode=0600
+ { "type": "swtpm", "states": [] }
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ This change will provide swtpm greater access to
+ /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/. So if malicious code were to exist within
+ swtpm, it would be able to modify and write to files in the directory
+ created by other processes.
+
+ Likewise, with a change to the apparmor profile, a conflict will occur
+ on update for users that modified their profile directly.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The issue was fixed in oracular in 0.7.3-0ubuntu7.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
Based on the upstream comment here -
  https://github.com/stefanberger/swtpm/issues/852#issuecomment-2156039973
  - users are having issues with apparmor denials when attempting to use
TPM2 NVRAM state lockfiles. This is due to the file not being owned by
the swtpm user. The issue is fixed by allowing write access to non-owned
lock files in /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm/. This was fixed upstream in my pr
  here - https://github.com/stefanberger/swtpm/pull/868

type=tcp,port=2322
+ New TPM device: /dev/tpm1 (major/minor = 253/1)
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ This change will allow swtpm to access various kernel modules by
+ default. So if malicious code were to exist within swtpm, then it would
+ have far greater access when running with super user permissions.
+
+ Likewise, with a change to the apparmor profile, a conflict will occur
+ on update for users that modified their profile directly.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The issue was fixed in oracular in 0.7.3-0ubuntu7.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
Based on the upstream discussion here -
  https://github.com/stefanberger/swtpm/discussions/866 - certain features
of swtpm require access to kernel modules to work. For example, using
--vtpm-proxy requires the tpm_vtpm_proxy module. This should work by
default, and is fixed by adding capability sys_admin to the apparmor
  profile.

[Bug 2068033] Re: [MIR] python-typeguard

2024-07-30 Thread Myles Penner
** Description changed:

+ **Edit: Updating Debian to 4.2.1 for bug fix. WIP.
+
  [Availability]
The package python-typeguard is already in Ubuntu universe. Link to package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard

  [Rationale]
The package python-typeguard is required in Ubuntu main as it is a dependency
for python-inflect, which is already in main
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-inflect).

  [Security]
No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past.
python-typeguard does not place executables in in /sbin and usr/sbin.
python-typeguard does not install services, timers, or recurring jobs.
python-typeguard does not run as a service or require special isolation
features.
python-typeguard does not open privledged ports or expose external endpoints.
python-typeguard does not contain extensions to security sensitive software
and does not contain any cryptography functionality.

  [Quality assurance – functional/usage]
The package works well right after install.

  [Quality assurance – maintenance]
The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have
too many long-term and critical open bugs*:
  - Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/+bugs
  - Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=python-typeguard
  - Upstream: https://github.com/agronholm/typeguard/issues
*Note the package has a FTBFS bug in the Debian bug reports related to a
failure to build for Trixie as linked above.

  [Quality assurance – testing]
- python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94%
(https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master).
+ python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94%
(https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master).
The package appears to run autopkgtest as well as unit tests as build.

  [Quality assurance – packaging]
A debian/watch file is present and works.
The debian/control file defines a “maintainer” field.
  Recent build log:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438
This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies.
The package will not be installed by default
Packaging and build is easy, see debian/rules:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-typeguard/-/blob/debian/4.1.5-1/debian/rules?ref_type=tags

  [UI Standards]
  Application is not end-user facing.

  [Dependencies]
No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main.

  [Standards compliance]
This package correctly follows FHS and Debian policy

  [Maintenance/Owner]
The owning team is Debian Python Team as they were the uploaders of the
source package to Ubuntu
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1). This team is
already subscribed to the package.
This package does not use static builds.
This package does not use vendored code.
This package is not rust based.
This package has not been build in the past 3 months – most recent is January
2024:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438.

  [Background information]
This package provides run-time type checking for functions defined with
argument type annotations. This package is a requirement for python-inflect,
which is already part of main.
  Upstream name: python-typeguard

[Bug 2062972] Re: ntfs partition does not mount with linux 6.8 and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_WRITE_MOUNTED=n

2024-07-30 Thread nmaxx
I did some more digging and found out the NTFS partition was actually
mounted via the ntfs3 kernel driver, as shown by the output of "mount":

/dev/sdb1 on /media/me/NTFS4GB type ntfs3
(rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,uhelper=udisks2)

After blacklisting the ntfs3 module, the next mount attempt showed the
fuseblk type, so that would mean ntfs-3g, which is fuse-based:

/dev/sdb1 on /media/me/NTFS4GB type fuseblk
(rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096,uhelper=udisks2)

So maybe bdev_allow_write_mounted=y simply appeared to have no effect
because the wrong driver was being used all along and the partition
actually had a different issue.

[Bug 2068033] Re: [MIR] python-typeguard

2024-07-30 Thread Myles Penner
Changed bug description with required information as per
https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-mir.

** Description changed:

- TBC
+ [Availability]
+ The package python-typeguard is already in Ubuntu universe. Link to package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard
+
+ [Rationale]
+ The package python-typeguard is required in Ubuntu main as it is a dependency
for python-inflect, which is already in main
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-inflect).
+
+ [Security]
+ No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past.
+ python-typeguard does not place executables in in /sbin and usr/sbin.
+ python-typeguard does not install services, timers, or recurring jobs.
+ python-typeguard does not run as a service or require special isolation
features.
+ python-typeguard does not open privledged ports or expose external endpoints.
+ python-typeguard does not contain extensions to security sensitive software
and does not contain any cryptography functionality.
+
+ [Quality assurance – functional/usage]
+ The package works well right after install.
+
+ [Quality assurance – maintenance]
+ The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have
too many long-term and critical open bugs*:
+ - Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/+bugs
+ - Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=python-typeguard
+ - Upstream: https://github.com/agronholm/typeguard/issues
+ *Note the package has a FTBFS bug in the Debian bug reports related to a
failure to build for Trixie as linked above.
+
+ [Quality assurance – testing]
+ python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94%
(https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master).
+ The package appears to run autopkgtest as well as unit tests as build.
+
+ [Quality assurance – packaging]
+ A debian/watch file is present and works.
+ The debian/control file defines a “maintainer” field.
+ Recent build log:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438
+ This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
+ This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies.
+ The package will not be installed by default
+ Packaging and build is easy, see debian/rules:
https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-typeguard/-/blob/debian/4.1.5-1/debian/rules?ref_type=tags
+
+ [UI Standards]
+ Application is not end-user facing.
+
+ [Dependencies]
+ No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main.
+
+ [Standards compliance]
+ This package correctly follows FHS and Debian policy
+
+ [Maintenance/Owner]
+ The owning team is Debian Python Team as they were the uploaders of the
source package to Ubuntu
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1). This team is
already subscribed to the package.
+ This package does not use static builds.
+ This package does not use vendored code.
+ This package is not rust based.
+ This package has not been build in the past 3 months – most recent is January
2024:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438.
+
+ [Background information]
+ This package provides run-time type checking for functions defined with
argument type annotations. This package is a requirement for python-inflect,
which is already part of main.
+ Upstream name: python-typeguard
+ Link to upstream: https://github.com/agronholm/typeguard

[Bug 2043820] Re: Unable to contact snap store on Xubuntu from Jammy to Noble

2024-07-30 Thread Nick Rosbrook
I just tried an upgrade on Xubuntu from Jammy to Noble. The reason this
happens is that in Kinetic, systemd-resolved was split into its own
binary package, and at the time that the transitional deb(s) are being
installed for thunderbird or firefox etc. (and hence the snap store
connectivity check happens), systemd-resolved has not been installed
yet. In other words, we have the following order of events:

1. New systemd unpacked / installed (results in systemd-resolved.service being
killed and removed)
2. Snap transitional packages installed, snap store connectivity check attempted
3. New systemd-resolved unpacked / installed (systemd-resolved.service restored)

But we need systemd-resolved to be back before the connectivity check
(or have some other workaround in place).

[Bug 2073648] Re: (24.04) GPU-HANG (and possible kernel panic?) with Intel/Arrandale GPU

2024-07-30 Thread Tyler Johnson
I have some updates.

First, I tried kernel 6.10., as @AaronMa requested. Same result. I'll
try filing a bug report via the link Aaron provided.

Second, now that the 6.8 kernel has been backported to Ubuntu 22.04, I
can now safely say that this bug affects the good ol' Jammy Jellyfish as
well. If anyone has an Arrandale GPU and is on Ubuntu 22.04, stick with
the non-HWE/edge kernels (5.15).

[Bug 2070882] Re: [MIR] jpeg-xl

2024-07-30 Thread Ioanna Alifieraki
@jbicha, I'm working on the review for this bug.

The build produces the following debs :
jpeg-xl-doc_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_all.deb
libjxl-dev_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl-gdk-pixbuf_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl0.10_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb

libjpegxl-java_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjpegli-tools_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl-devtools_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl-tools_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Just a confirmation, IIUC from the description we need in main only the
following:
jpeg-xl-doc_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_all.deb
libjxl-dev_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl-gdk-pixbuf_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libjxl0.10_0.10.3-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Is this correct ?

[Bug 720638] Re: snmpd crashes with segfault (libnetsnmpmibs.so.15.1.2)

2024-07-30 Thread BloodyIron
So when are we going to see SNMPD v5.9.3 pushed out to currently-active
LTS editions of Ubuntu? I have kubernetes nodes on 22.04 that have SNMPD
crashing but not seeing v5.9.3 available, only v5.9.1 on the main repos.
Seems like the fix is already available with a newer version... is there
something holding back v5.9.3 being pushed to currently active LTS
versions?

[Bug 2003161] Re: Fix speaker mute hotkey doesn't work on Dell G16 series

2024-07-30 Thread James R Larrowe
Sorry for the wait, had some trouble building the kernel.

After building the kernel with the patch to revert
83bcf3e52e9cfc727df33f1055ef0618c91719d0, I can confirm that my speaker
mute key works properly.

Only other changes made were to replace my modules with dkms versions.

[Bug 2075185] Re: [SRU] Enable ppc64el for .NET 8 on Noble

2024-07-30 Thread Mateus Rodrigues de Morais
** Description changed:

- WIP
+ Upload available in PPA: https://launchpad.net/~dotnet-
+ bootstrap/+archive/ubuntu/dotnet8.0.107-noble-stage2
+
+ [ Impact ]
+
+ * This SRU aims to enable the ppc64el architecture on .NET 8 targeting Ubuntu
+24.04 (Noble Numbat). This architecture has already been enabled for .NET
+8 on Oracular Oriole.
+
+ * This came up as a request from IBM [0] and is now part of the .NET team's
+roadmap for the Oracular Oriole cycle.
+
+ * Per the changelog, the changes introduced in this upload are only related
+to the enablement of ppc64el, with the exception of a d/copyright clean-up
+to fix some lintian warnings.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ * On a ppc64el machine, run the steps outlined in the .NET SRU Test Plan
+document [0].
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ * The changes introduced in this upload have already been tested by IBM [0]
+in a PPA upload made available to them.
+
+ * ppc64el has also been enabled for .NET 8.0.7 / 8.0.107 on Oracular.
+
+ * The patches introduced to fix various FTBFS and autopkgtest failures on
+ppc64el are only modifying parameters in unit test projects within the .NET
+code-base as well as the autopkgtest testrunner code-base and its related
+libraries. These should impact no "shippable" product that lands in the
+final binary packages.
+
+ * If a problem occurs, it would be limited to .NET on ppc64el and will show
+up when using the product with normal day-to-day operations, which the test
+plan should be able to cover.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ * The ppc64el build will require a bootstrap once it hits -proposed. The
+bootstrap package has been prepared and is available in a PPA [2]. It will
+be uploaded to the Ubuntu Bootstrap PPA by an Archive Admin once we're
+ready to bootstrap.
+
+ * When this upload hits -proposed, the ppc64el build will stay in dependency
+wait status until the bootstrap package is uploaded and the Launchpad team
+triggers the bootstrap. The .NET team (Toolchains/Foundations) will drive
+the coordination of these tasks once we're there.

[Bug 2067516] Re: [aws] Backport CMA pool per numa functionality for 22.04 and 20.04

2024-07-30 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-aws/6.8.0-1013.14
kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and
update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the
tag 'verification-needed-noble-linux-aws' to 'verification-done-noble-
linux-aws'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-
needed-noble-linux-aws' to 'verification-failed-noble-linux-aws'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 2074295] Re: Firefox won't auto update on Ubuntu 24.04

2024-07-30 Thread Mika Haaja
Thanks for the help. This installation, where I have tried to debug the
problem, is installed in a virtual machine. Other installations are on
bare metal. I did the Firefox 128.0 update manually. 128.0.2 seemed to
be available for five days before Firefox updated directly to 128.0.3
This is the longest time Firefox in this virtual machine has waited for
an automatic update. Otherwise, I have normally updated manually.

I have had the virtual machine running various times a day, and have
observed that the snaps update check has taken place before shutting
down the virtual machine. Sometimes Firefox has been running and
sometimes I haven't started it at all after starting the machine.

I got to check out one of these other installations. At some point, Firefox was
updated to the latest version. However, other, including security updates, were
still not installed. Among other things, the kernel was still in version
6.8.0-35.
The use of this computer has been normally 3-5 times a week, 1-2 hours a day.

I haven't been able to check this third installation, where I also
encountered this old version of Firefox about a week after the release
of the newer version. This computer is used even less often than the
previous one. But it had been used a couple of times during that week,
probably for about half an hour at a time.

I paid attention to the Firefox update problem when I wanted to see how
the update notifications look like in this latest version of Ubuntu. I
noticed that security updates happen in the background, often without
notification to the user during machine shutdown. I haven't seen the
Firefox update notification when Firefox has been running. I have also
never seen a notification about other system updates, even though a week
has been selected as the notification interval and new package updates
have already been available for a couple of weeks. But these other
update problems do not fall under Firefox's bug in any way.

Should this bug be closed, and then if necessary make a new one under
the snapd package?

[Bug 2075204] [NEW] gdb on s390x chokes on divide-by-zero from chaos-marmosets

2024-07-30 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

To help in the development of apport we're using the chaos-marmosets set
of binaries, which triggers various crashes. In particular, we're using
/usr/bin/divide-by-zero which does as its name indicates, which
naturally triggers a native crash.

However, GDB fails on s390x. Note that for the following I have the
debugging symbols from ddebs.ubuntu.com installed:

ubuntu@glibc-proposed:/tmp$ gdb /usr/bin/divide-by-zero
[snip]
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/divide-by-zero...

So at this point GDB isn't capable of identifying the various symbols on
