[Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers
Today's Ubuntu 24.04 update Brought in from the graphics-drivers PPA the Nvidia driver 555.58.02, updating the previously manually installed 555. In additon, the ubuntu-drivers list output now lists the 550, 550-open, 555, and 555-open drivers, as does the Sotware & Updates/Additional Drivers. There still is a deprecated hwdb warning (bug 2037004) when ubuntu-drivers list is run, but at least the expected drivers are now listed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062967 Title: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-drivers-common/+bug/2062967/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2037004] Re: warnings in terminal with software-properties-gtk
With today's Nvidia 555.58.02 update for Ubuntu 24.04 (which had been previously directly installed) from the graphics-drivers PPA, the output of ubuntu-drivers now lists the 550, 550-open, 555, and 555-open drivers as it should for my RTX 3080 hardware. The Software/Additional Drivers tab also lists those drivers, and claims the 555 installation is manual (as it was). The choice buttons are active, not greyed out. [Bug 2068033] Re: [MIR] python-typeguard
** Description changed: - **Edit: Updating Debian to 4.2.1 for bug fix. WIP. + **Edit: Debian updated their version to 4.3.0 to fix bug. WIP. [Availability] The package python-typeguard is already in Ubuntu universe. Link to package: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard [Rationale] The package python-typeguard is required in Ubuntu main as it is a dependency for python-inflect, which is already in main (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-inflect). [Security] No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past. python-typeguard does not place executables in in /sbin and usr/sbin. python-typeguard does not install services, timers, or recurring jobs. python-typeguard does not run as a service or require special isolation features. python-typeguard does not open privledged ports or expose external endpoints. python-typeguard does not contain extensions to security sensitive software and does not contain any cryptography functionality. [Quality assurance – functional/usage] The package works well right after install. [Quality assurance – maintenance] The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have too many long-term and critical open bugs*: - Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/+bugs - Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=python-typeguard - Upstream: https://github.com/agronholm/typeguard/issues *Note the package has a FTBFS bug in the Debian bug reports related to a failure to build for Trixie as linked above. [Quality assurance – testing] python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94% (https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master). The package appears to run autopkgtest as well as unit tests as build. [Quality assurance – packaging] A debian/watch file is present and works. The debian/control file defines a “maintainer” field. Recent build log: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438 This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages. This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies. The package will not be installed by default Packaging and build is easy, see debian/rules: https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/python-typeguard/-/blob/debian/4.1.5-1/debian/rules?ref_type=tags [UI Standards] Application is not end-user facing. [Dependencies] No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main. [Standards compliance] This package correctly follows FHS and Debian policy [Maintenance/Owner] The owning team is Debian Python Team as they were the uploaders of the source package to Ubuntu (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1). This team is already subscribed to the package. This package does not use static builds. This package does not use vendored code. This package is not rust based. This package has not been build in the past 3 months – most recent is January 2024: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-typeguard/4.1.5-1/+build/27606438. [Background information] This package provides run-time type checking for functions defined with argument type annotations. This package is a requirement for python-inflect, which is already part of main. [Bug 2068033] Re: [MIR] python-typeguard
** Description changed: + **Edit: Updating Debian to 4.2.1 for bug fix. WIP. + [Availability] The package python-typeguard is already in Ubuntu universe. [Quality assurance – testing] - python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94% (https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master). + python-typeguard has an included tests suite with coverage of 94% (https://coveralls.io/github/agronholm/typeguard?branch=master). [Bug 2062972] Re: ntfs partition does not mount with linux 6.8 and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_WRITE_MOUNTED=n
I did some more digging and found out the NTFS partition was actually mounted via the ntfs3 kernel driver, as shown by the output of "mount": /dev/sdb1 on /media/me/NTFS4GB type ntfs3 (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,uhelper=udisks2) After blacklisting the ntfs3 module, the next mount attempt showed the fuseblk type, so that would mean ntfs-3g, which is fuse-based: /dev/sdb1 on /media/me/NTFS4GB type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096,uhelper=udisks2) So maybe bdev_allow_write_mounted=y simply appeared to have no effect because the wrong driver was being used all along and the partition actually had a different issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062972 Title: ntfs partition does not mount with linux 6.8 and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_WRITE_MOUNTED=n To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2062972/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2043820] Re: Unable to contact snap store on Xubuntu from Jammy to Noble
I just tried an upgrade on Xubuntu from Jammy to Noble. The reason this happens is that in Kinetic, systemd-resolved was split into its own binary package, and at the time that the transitional deb(s) are being installed for thunderbird or firefox etc. (and hence the snap store connectivity check happens), systemd-resolved has not been installed yet. In other words, we have the following order of events: 1. New systemd unpacked / installed (results in systemd-resolved.service being killed and removed) 2. Snap transitional packages installed, snap store connectivity check attempted 3. New systemd-resolved unpacked / installed (systemd-resolved.service restored) But we need systemd-resolved to be back before the connectivity check (or have some other workaround in place). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2043820 Title: Unable to contact snap store on Xubuntu from Jammy to Noble To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/2043820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2073648] Re: (24.04) GPU-HANG (and possible kernel panic?) with Intel/Arrandale GPU
I have some updates. First, I tried kernel 6.10., as @AaronMa requested. Same result. I'll try filing a bug report via the link Aaron provided. Second, now that the 6.8 kernel has been backported to Ubuntu 22.04, I can now safely say that this bug affects the good ol' Jammy Jellyfish as well. [Bug 2075185] Re: [SRU] Enable ppc64el for .NET 8 on Noble
** Description changed: - WIP + Upload available in PPA: https://launchpad.net/~dotnet- + bootstrap/+archive/ubuntu/dotnet8.0.107-noble-stage2 + + [ Impact ] + + * This SRU aims to enable the ppc64el architecture on .NET 8 targeting Ubuntu +24.04 (Noble Numbat). This architecture has already been enabled for .NET +8 on Oracular Oriole. + + * This came up as a request from IBM [0] and is now part of the .NET team's +roadmap for the Oracular Oriole cycle. + + * Per the changelog, the changes introduced in this upload are only related +to the enablement of ppc64el, with the exception of a d/copyright clean-up +to fix some lintian warnings. + + [ Test Plan ] + + * On a ppc64el machine, run the steps outlined in the .NET SRU Test Plan +document [0]. + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + * The changes introduced in this upload have already been tested by IBM [0] +in a PPA upload made available to them. + + * ppc64el has also been enabled for .NET 8.0.7 / 8.0.107 on Oracular. + + * The patches introduced to fix various FTBFS and autopkgtest failures on +ppc64el are only modifying parameters in unit test projects within the .NET +code-base as well as the autopkgtest testrunner code-base and its related +libraries. These should impact no "shippable" product that lands in the +final binary packages. + + * If a problem occurs, it would be limited to .NET on ppc64el and will show +up when using the product with normal day-to-day operations, which the test +plan should be able to cover. + + [ Other Info ] + + * The ppc64el build will require a bootstrap once it hits -proposed. The +bootstrap package has been prepared and is available in a PPA [2]. It will +be uploaded to the Ubuntu Bootstrap PPA by an Archive Admin once we're +ready to bootstrap. + + * When this upload hits -proposed, the ppc64el build will stay in dependency +wait status until the bootstrap package is uploaded and the Launchpad team +triggers the bootstrap. [Bug 2074295] Re: Firefox won't auto update on Ubuntu 24.04
Thanks for the help. This installation, where I have tried to debug the problem, is installed in a virtual machine. Other installations are on bare metal. I did the Firefox 128.0 update manually. 128.0.2 seemed to be available for five days before Firefox updated directly to 128.0.3 This is the longest time Firefox in this virtual machine has waited for an automatic update. Otherwise, I have normally updated manually. I have had the virtual machine running various times a day, and have observed that the snaps update check has taken place before shutting down the virtual machine. Sometimes Firefox has been running and sometimes I haven't started it at all after starting the machine. I got to check out one of these other installations. At some point, Firefox was updated to the latest version. However, other, including security updates, were still not installed. Among other things, the kernel was still in version 6.8.0-35. The use of this computer has been normally 3-5 times a week, 1-2 hours a day. I haven't been able to check this third installation, where I also encountered this old version of Firefox about a week after the release of the newer version. This computer is used even less often than the previous one. But it had been used a couple of times during that week, probably for about half an hour at a time. I paid attention to the Firefox update problem when I wanted to see how the update notifications look like in this latest version of Ubuntu. I noticed that security updates happen in the background, often without notification to the user during machine shutdown. I haven't seen the Firefox update notification when Firefox has been running. I have also never seen a notification about other system updates, even though a week has been selected as the notification interval and new package updates have already been available for a couple of weeks. But these other update problems do not fall under Firefox's bug in any way.
