[Bug 278774] [NEW] No obvious graphical option to continue in low-graphics mode
Public bug reported: I'm on the Intrepid Beta, but this has been the case for all the alpha releases I've tried. I have an Nvidia 7000M, which needs the binary Nvidia drivers to work. The LiveCD loads in Low graphics mode. I need to continue in low- graphics mode to install, then fetch the drivers after installation. On the LiveCD, I'm given two options: to reconfigure my graphics card (which asks me to restart, thus eliminating any changes I've made, as I'm on the LiveCD) or to troubleshoot the error (which won't fix the problem). To continue in low-graphics mode, I had to run: sudo cp --remove-destination /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe /etc/X11/xorg.conf Then do Ctrl+Alt+F7, then Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. There should be some sort of option to do this on the LiveCD, such as a button titled Continue in low-graphics mode. Another improvement would be for the Cancel button to be renamed to Reload configuration. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No obvious graphical option to continue in low-graphics mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278774 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 278780] [NEW] [Intrepid Beta] Nvidia drivers cannot be installed before updating package lists
Public bug reported: Through the restricted drivers manager (jockey-gtk), I tried to install the binary Nvidia drivers. This problem occured for both driver versions available. The driver cannot be downloaded because package lists are not up to date. To reproduce the bug: * On a freshly installed system, go to System Administration Restricted Drivers Manager. * Select an Nvidia driver. * Click Activate. What should happen: * Driver should be downloaded and installed. What did happen: * Progress bar stays on 0% and goes away after a few seconds. * The driver remains deactivated. Workaround: * Update the package lists manually running sudo apt-get update in a terminal. A similar bug was reported (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /restricted-manager/+bug/123061). However, it was reported in late 2007, so applies to a different release. It was supposedly fixed, but it seems to have broken somewhere along the way. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Intrepid Beta] Nvidia drivers cannot be installed before updating package lists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for replying. :) Since reporting the bug, I tried installing the driver that was needed for Gutsy, but it wouldn't install, saying that alsaconf couldn't be found. The (failed) installation removed older drivers, so now the volume won't change. I'm going to reinstall Alpha 6 when it is released today, and if it's still broken, I'll do as you requested. [Bug 230031] [NEW] Reconfiguring xorg and enabling driver through jockey-gtk with Nvidia don't work with GeForce 7000M, but Envy does
Public bug reported: I have a Nvidia GeForce 7000M. I wanted the max resolution of 1440x900, so I went to Hardware Drivers (jockey-gtk) and clicked on Enable for nvidia_new. [Bug 230025] [NEW] With Compiz Fusion, windows go under top panel when started
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Compiz version 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6 Ubuntu version: 8.04 LTS (Hardy) There is no problem when Compiz is not enabled. Steps to reproduce the bug: Activate Compiz. Open a new window What I expected to happen: The window to be positioned so that the titlebar is still visible. What did happen: The window was positioned too high, so that the titlebar is in fact under the top panel. What I think is happening: The window is actually the correct size. However, I don't think Compiz realizes that the window should be below the panel, and it places the maximized window at the top of the screen, rather than in the correct position.
