Unfortunately, this is not reproducible. I tried everything to reproduce
it, tried to repeat all the actions in exact order, but nothing worked.
I'm sorry.

[Bug 540893] [NEW] Shutdown and Log Out actions don't work

2010-03-18 Thread 3gun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Shutdown/Log Out actions (for example Lock Screen, Suspend, Restart,
Shutdown) sometimes just stop working. For example, I can not suspend my
laptop neither via indicator-applet-session nor via assigned keys. No
errors or warnings are displayed, nothing happens. Workaround is very
simple:

 $ gnome-screensaver
** (gnome-screensaver:19099): WARNING **: screensaver already running in this
session

After that I can lock screen, suspend, log out, etc.

[Bug 339544] [NEW] system hangs when laptop power adapter (dis)connected

2009-03-08 Thread 3gun
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 (2.6.27-11-generic) on laptop 'Dell Inspiron 1521'. Few
days ago strange thing started to happen: laptop freezes when I
connect/disconnect power adapter. First, I thought it's a hardware problem
(Ctrl+Alt+Del, Ctrl+Alt+Bckspc doesn't work). But when I tried to switch to an
another console (Ctrl+Alt+F1, f.e.) it worked, besides switching back to 7th
unfreezes desktop and all works fine. Is it gnome issue or xserver, I don't
know. But before some Ubuntu update it didn't happen.
There is no new messages in /var/log/messages appears when it happens.

2009-01-17 Thread 3gun
Thanks, Chris!
Since I have 8.10 I cant find out just how to pass boot params to the kernel :(
There is many more than 3 bug reports on this issue. As far as I understood,
the problem is that fglrx is having problems with SLUB-enabled kernels. With
this driver uninstalled, suspend/hybernate works fine.
Will https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI information still be useful for you?

As I understand, this problem can't be solved normally. To use

works, but video performance is pretty low.

Unfortunately, it still is in Ubuntu 8.10. It doesn't depend on Visual Effects

[Bug 303698] [NEW] suspend bug (ubuntu-8.10-alternate-amd64)

2008-11-30 Thread 3gun
Public bug reported:

First of all, great thanks for Ubuntu!
And again I have a problem with suspend/hibernate.
Box is Dell Inspiron 1521. Few months ago I installed Ubuntu 8.04 x64 on it.
Problem with suspend/hibernate was solved by installing proprietary Wi-Fi
driver. But now it doesn't help.
1) when I try to suspend, mouse pointer comes to upper-left corner of the
screen and nothing else happens, so I have to just hold power button until
computer turns off.
2) if I bring wlan0 interface down before suspending, computer goes to sleep
(but very slowly, about minute or so), and when I try to wake it up, I see the
same thing: mouse pointer in upper-left corner of the black screen. Hard disk
indicator shows that some file operations are taking place.

There is some info in attachment (I cleaned up dmesg before doing
experiment to make it more informative).

[Bug 248855] Re: (Hardy) Hibernate crash on Dell Inspiron 1521

2008-09-11 Thread 3gun
there is solution that worked on my Dell Inspiron 1521.
1. go to System/Administrating/Hardware Drivers and install Wireless firmware
2. gedit fstab and replace swap partition UUID with its device path. F.e.
#UUID=8cc76dfe-0a42-4948-b3aa-2830c11b6114 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/sda5 none swap sw 0 0
Reboot and than try to hibernate. Maybe this will be a note for Ubuntu
developers that some programs do not work correctly with device UUID's.
P.S. `uname a`=="Linux notebook 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40
UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux
"

[Bug 267128] Re: LiveCD reports a hardware error

2008-09-09 Thread 3gun
Hi Leann,

Updates are downloaded and installed automatically every day from my internet
provider's mirror (which is not official, but up-to-date as it said on their
web-site), so i can't really say which of them was last. But i'm sure that
there was no kernel updates, because no reboot prompt was shown for several
days (`uname -r` is still "2.6.24-19-generic").
In one of linux-forums someone gave me advice to pass "dma=off" option to the
kernel, and it worked for LiveCD! fsck utility found and fixed some errors on
hard disk, and now ubuntu boots from it with no errors. Although, there is
still necessary to pass "dma=off" option when booting from LiveCD (it wasn't
before).
I can't explain such behavior, but i'm ready to post any useful information
about installed software and hardware.

Thanks for reply,
3gun

[Bug 267128] [NEW] LiveCD reports a hardware error

2008-09-06 Thread 3gun
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu was installed on my computer and worked fine until yesterday
(version 8.04, up-to-date every day). yesterday it reported errors after
boot screen with Ubuntu logo instead of switching to GUI mode. screen
output looks like this:

[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2
frozen
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: cmd a0/01:00:00:60:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0
dma 96 in
[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: status: { DRDY }

it repeats about 6-8 times and than hangs. i took off hard drive and
tried to boot from LiveCD (versions from 6.xx to 8.04, same results).
screen output stays the same, except that it starts with this lines:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for list of build-in commands.
(initramfs)

and just before system hangs there is one more line:

[unix-formatted time] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)

memory test on LiveCD works and reports no errors. to check hardware
state i installed windows system and it's hardware tests reported no
errors too.
