[Bug 1902649] [NEW] Unable to upgrade to 20.04.1 from 18.04.5

2020-11-02 Thread Aaditya Singh
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
Release:18.04

I ran sudo do-release upgrade and expected to upgrade from 18.04 to
20.04. But this happened:

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was likely caused by:
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

I have looked at main.log and apt.log and removed some PPAs but it is
still failing and I am unable to figure out why.

Same issue here.

I am guessing xfce4-screensaver should conflict with and remove light-
locker when its installed as suggested in a comment above.

Updated from Ubuntu + Xfce (xubuntu-desktop) 18.04 -> 20.04.1. Used work
around like Craig above, and disabled lock part in xfce4-screensaver.

openssh relies on RRSIG records to verify the remote key using DNSSEC
and SSHFP resource records. See VerifyHostKeyDNS under ssh_config.
systemd-resolve breaks this.

Here is a detailed blog article that covers the issue in depth:

2018-05-10 Thread Aaditya Deshpande
Go to the hyperlink which Steve has mentioned and install the kernel.
Then boot choosing the newly installed kernel option and go to recovery
mode and upgrade your grub. Again reboot but choose the 4.15 kernel. And
update. the shim package is installed.

I dont know the technical details as to what was the problem but my
18.04 ubuntu is working fine now.

The apt-get upgrade option does not mention the error code.

[Bug 1284196] Re: Install to 3TB disk fails with "attempt to read or write outside of disk" error on reboot

2017-10-27 Thread Aaditya Bagga
I was hit by this bug too when installing Zentyal server 5.0 (based on
Ubuntu Server 16.04 with Ubiquity) [1] on a Dell Poweredge R530 with a
4Tb Raid 5 hard disk.

If I chose guided partitioning, Ubiquity created 3 partitions, 1 Mb
bios_boot partition, ~ 4 Tb root partition, and 16 Gb Swap partition.

With above partitioning and booting in BIOS mode, I got "Error: attempt
to read or write outside of disk `hd0'.".

While reinstalling I added a 2Gb /boot partition before the root (/)
partition, it worked and was able to boot into the installed system.

TL;DR: Grub failed on 4Tb / partition *in BIOS mode*, worked when a
/boot partition was created.

[Bug 1511414] Re: PHP-FPM incorrectly defines the SCRIPT_NAME variable when using Apache

2016-09-13 Thread Aaditya Bagga
Hi,

I have tested PHP 5.5.37 for a couple of weeks now, so far it has worked
without issue.

So if possible, please updated PHP to 5.5.38 which is the last version
released by the PHP developers (not possible to request a trusty-
backport since this version is not available in a later Ubuntu release).

Thanks.

[Bug 1511414] Re: PHP-FPM incorrectly defines the SCRIPT_NAME variable when using Apache

2016-08-29 Thread Aaditya Bagga
Another problem that could be fixed by updating PHP:

With apache-2.4.10 (available in trusty-backports), a new method was
introduced to pass files via proxy from apache to php-fpm, which solved
some issues with using ProxyPassMatch available earlier.

However it does not work with php-5.5.9 available in trusty and was
fixed in php-5.5.17

https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/694

So I believe that PHP should be updated to 5.5.18+ in trusty-backports.

2016-08-26 Thread Aaditya Bagga
Hi Robie Basak (racb),

Could an updated PHP package be put in trusty backports?

That way affected users (like me) could update to the version in
backports while normal users would be unaffected.

Thanks.

[Bug 1090053] Re: e4defrag -c /mountpoint does not provide expected output

2016-06-08 Thread Aaditya Bhatia
```
~ fsck -n /dev/sda2
fsck from util-linux 2.27.1
e2fsck 1.42.13 (17-May-2015)
fsck.ext4: Permission denied while trying to open /dev/sda2
You must have r/o access to the filesystem or be root
~ e4defrag -c /dev/sda2
 Done.
```

The user's expectation is to be informed of the reason the execution
failed. Instead, e4defrag suppresses the error and returns an exit
status of 0, unlike fsck, as illustrated above.

This is a valid bug because the output does not indicate that there was
an issue with privileges during execution.

[Bug 548967] Re: gnomad2 crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2010-05-10 Thread Aaditya
Shouldn't this bug be filed under libmtp8 package instead, since
apparently that's the source of the problem. Using libmtp8 from karmic
is a workaround, not a solution.

At this time on an up to date Lucid installation,
When MTP device is plugged in and mounted automatically:
$ gnomad2
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=507d) is a Samsung YP-U3.

Upon unmounting:

[Bug 572648] [NEW] new tabs ignore command line options such as --geometry, --zoom

2010-04-30 Thread Aaditya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch a new terminal using the command `gnome-terminal --geometry=100x24
--zoom=1.3`
2. Open a new tab in that terminal (File New Tab)

Expected behavior (Karmic):
The new tab honors the --geometry and --zoom options passed to `gnome-terminal`
as command line options.

Unexpected behavior (Lucid):
The new tab is started with default settings instead of geometry, zoom etc.
settings passed to `gnome-terminal` as command line options.

[Bug 420077] Re: grub2 has no timer

2010-04-08 Thread Aaditya
I faced this issue on a karmic-server yesterday, upon rebooting after 4
months of uptime and around 2-3 kernel updates in the meantime.

Apparently it was the recordfail as mentioned in the comments above
and in this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8086168postcount=6

Something went wrong in the first reboot. I was able to ping the box by
IP but not by mDNS hostname, and was unable to access it over SSH. After
hard reset, the box kept getting stuck on grub menu until I plugged in a
monitor and a keyboard, hit enter to continue, booted normally and then
rebooted.

There was nothing interesting in syslog. I can provide the logs as
necessary.

It's clearly a memory leak in Xorg since that's taking up 25% of your 1GB, that

I'd advise you to discuss the issue on IRC [1] in #ubuntu-bugs . They
can help you pull more information from your system so that you can post

[Bug 480564] Re: Loops trying to mount NTFS partition after failure

2009-12-21 Thread Aaditya
In my case, the failure to mount the ntfs partition was only because the
mount point was missing. `service udev stop; sleep 2; service udev
start` stopped the continuous logging in /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/daemon.log, but I was able to re-trigger it by `mount -a`.
Looking at /etc/fstab and checking which partitions weren't mounted, I
was able to narrow it down to the ntfs partition. `mount /dev/sdaX
/media/drv0` revealed that the target mount point directory was missing.

Note: `service udev restart` didn't stop the log messages, so I had to
run `service udev stop; sleep 2; service udev start`

Looks like it's been fixed in Lucid. A meaningful error message
somewhere, like mount failed for XXX reason, would be a plus.

There's no way in the latest installer to select none of the Other

some other option; you can't return to normal state.

[Bug 437792] Re: System froze while using the internal SD card reader

2009-09-27 Thread Aaditya
 Does this occur consistently? I.e., can you crash your system on
demand?

It did happen twice in exactly the same way, so I believe it is
reproducible.

 If so, could you install the kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.28.10/ and see if you can duplicate the issue
there as well?

This is a production machine. Is there a chance of this kernel messing
with the system, or can I uninstall it without hurting the system?

[Bug 338982] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV during MAPI authentication

2009-09-15 Thread Aaditya
The latest version of evolution-mapi crashes exactly as described in the
comments above. The only way of avoiding the crash is to use the
server's IPv4 address instead of the hostname.

I'm posting this because this bug affects evolution-mapi as explained in
the description. I clearly see evolution-mapi in the list of packages
affected by this bug. No doubt this has been fixed for openchange, but
evolution-mapi issue stands at the same point after long discussion.
Someone has marked it as invalid, though it is not. If there's another
bug report present for the same issue, please post the link here.

Before I create a new bug report, I need to know that it wouldn't be
blindly marked as a dupe of this bug.

[Bug 98783] Re: MASTER: memory leak

2009-06-20 Thread Aaditya
Xorg's memory consumption goes up each time the tty is switched to or
from the one running the X server, and each time the box is suspended
resumed. The increase at each step depends on the 'pixmem' size.

In the following, I switched between tty1 (CLI) and tty7 (X) and took a reading
each time I returned to tty7. Only `firefox` and `gnome-terminal` windows were
open.

$ top -bn1 |grep Xorg
 2816 root  20   0  556m  63m  17m S2  1.6   0:06.87 Xorg

$ top -bn1 |grep Xorg

[Bug 370093] Re: package xulrunner-1.9 1.9.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2009-06-14 Thread Aaditya
 What is the solution if you do not have access to another machine to
take xulrunner?

Create a new file /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/xulrunner with the
following contents (exclude the ===):

===
auto
/usr/bin/xulrunner

/usr/bin/xulrunner-1.9
50

[Bug 163047] Re: firefox: mouse pointer disappears while page is loading

2009-05-25 Thread Aaditya
I managed to reproduce this problem by turning on the following setting
under Compiz, using `ccsm`:

ccsm Enhanced Zoom Desktop Mouse Behavior Hide Original Mouse
Pointer

Turning this switch off did not fix the problem, even after restarting
the browser. Earlier, system had been running Intrepid and Jaunty for
months with no problems, until I made this change.

Hope this helps the investigation.

[Bug 370093] Re: package xulrunner-1.9 1.9.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2009-05-15 Thread Aaditya
Copying the file /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/xulrunner from another machine
fixed the problem.
The file was deleted upon purging the package xulrunner-1.9, while the
package xulrunner-1.9.1 was still installed.
Successfully re-installed xulrunner-1.9 afterwards, which is required by
firefox.

What triggered the problem? Was it caused by installing shiretoko
without removing firefox?

[Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd

2009-04-25 Thread Aaditya
Had the same problem in Intrepid. Display didn't freeze that often, but
considerably slowed down - right after I updated my box on April 4th.
System was unusable until I switched to EXA.
