If reinstalling HPLIP works then it's not an issue with HPLIP but could be an issue with the upgrade path. Till--any comments? This wouldn't be an issue with HPLIP, per se, but with how Ubuntu does the upgrade. Someone from Ubuntu may have some other comments, but as of right now I wouldn't consider this an issue with HPLIP. [Bug 235399] Re: "Print black" does not use black ink cartridge
If you want the printer to print in true black you can select (300/600/1200dpi) Grayscale, Black cartridge. The easiest way to do this is to to run hp-toolbox, click the printer, then click print settings, under "Quality' select the setting you'd like. To run hp-toolbox in ubuntu you may need to run: sudo apt-get install hplip-gui then run hp-toolbox I've looked in the Photosmart 8000 series ppd and it does have these options so you should have them as well. Also another way to do this is to run hp-setup to configure another printer queue, then configure that queue with the settings you prefer. Then when you want to print true black you print to the other print queue, and then you want to print color you print to the color printer queue. Hope this helps. This is the default print setting because it prints faster than reversed. You can change the setting by running hp-toolbox, click print settings and change the output order to reversed. [Bug 192176] Re: Scanner output always JPEG compressed
Hey Andrey, I spoke with the dev team and our thinking is this isn't a defect because it can be changed in the xsane settings and once changed it will stay with the new setting. The default is set because in a majority of cases default works good for most users. As for system wide we primarily only support scanning with xsane and each user would need to change the setting. Maybe we're not clear on the use case you are wanting to improve? Thanks! [Bug 229663] Re: Hardy: HP Officejet 5600 not available in device list
Sorry HPLIP only supports usb, parallel, and jetdirect network devices. Although your router may have the ability to share a usb network printer unless it's a jetdirect device or jetdirect enabled device HPLIP will not work correctly with it, is unsupported, and we don't test these devices. You could look over this page: http://hplip.sourceforge.net/troubleshooting/network.html and be sure the correct ports are open. Although more than likely this wont help.. Sorry!
