[Bug 1331460] Re: vlc sound-menu entry broken 14.04

2014-06-23 Thread Abdellah Chelli
So, mine have a cool bug that let me work with VLC?

- VLC not running: its sound menu is sensitive both "VLC media player" label
and controls REW/PLAY/FF.
- Either start VLC from Desktop/or Sound menu: "VLC media player" label become
grey non sensitive BUT controls REW/PLAY/FF are not grey and sensitive and
they work I can use them.

Here attached screenshot, notice the hover glue.

[Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-26 Thread Abdellah Chelli
As mentioned in #31, I used 90-fonts-nafees.conf. System still using
that ugly mono-space font.

I tried this to debug fontconfig and used gedit as test program:

FC_DEBUG=1 gedit > ~/Desktop/fc_debug_gedit.txt

"Nafees Nastaleeq" could be seen in middle of font selecting list.

Just to confirm: I used "gnome tweak tool" and set "PakType Naskh Basic
Urdu" as font system

I tried again, I got it in begining of the list.

Yes, exactly (seems like example: menu and that BBC file at bottom in
my previous attachment, it is a mono-space font)

Yes

Yes

I wasn't knowing which package should take care of this. Also I was
thinking about replacing "Ubuntu" font like "Gnome Tweak Tool" do.
Where here it with fontconfig it seems to me like 'font priority
list', is it so? if yes, so the font mentioned here is just a
fallback. because there other Arabic script fonts at the top of it.

yes

To me, No, because the desktop or system still using that ugly font
and not Nastaleeq.
That's why it seems to me like fallback font.

[Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-25 Thread Abdellah Chelli
(Just for note, i'm an Arabic user, Urdu other additional letters and
share same Unicode range)

I don't if I missed some thing. I installed the Urdu language support and
switch to. Making changes mentioned on #18
/etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-nonlatin.conf

I tried (each time I reboot it)

- replacing "Urdu Nastaliq Unicode" with "Nafees Nastaleeq"

tired with "Nafees Regular" and "Nafees", no changes

- same tests but by removing fonts lines for other arabic : arabic fa, arabic
ar .. keeping only arabic ur
no changes too

I have attached a screenshot.

Re: [Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-20 Thread Abdellah Chelli
I just tried to check the name in system, I have installed the new package
from the ppa.

I couldn't find a font with this name "Urdu Nastaliq Unicode", even using
gnome-font-view for each font in both packages Nafees & PakType. I was
thinking the its the name of the new included font NafeesNastaliq.

Actually we were looking for NafeesNastaleeq.ttf , if fallback option
available: NafeesWeb.ttf (Nafees Regular) will be good. (Please, Shabbir
let us know if you would other way.)

I am not familiar with fonts, but the new included font,
NafeesNastaleeq.ttf file, does not have a name. As it seems in
gnome-font-viewer. I couldn't find in the font list. Is it a problem in
this font?

[Bug 1153188] [NEW] Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2013-03-10 Thread Abdellah Chelli
Public bug reported:

Default fonts in Ubuntu show ugly Urdu text.

It's better that language-selector sets "Nafees Regular" (Nafees Web in
fonts-nafees package) as default font for all font families (SansSerif,
Serif...except mono) used in Ubuntu.

I would like to ask, if language-selector is able to set specific
keyboard layout for Urdu for 1st time?

Please Shabbir:
Could you write here the best setting for Urdu Fonts (Using "Tweak Tool": Scale
Factor, Hinting, Anitaliasing, Size)?

[Bug 1136125] [NEW] getty may need to be run with higher priority

2013-02-28 Thread Abdellah Chelli
Public bug reported:

- Some tools take whole RAM then system try to use SWAP. CPU get 100% at
that time.

Actually It's a problem I have faced in many distributions. I used Ubuntu from
7.04 .
I used to install Alpha, Beta, Experimental versions of may tools from ppa or
locally ...Windows compiled with wine or even some plugins in firefox like
(flash, some WebGL pages).

It happens to me many time with 'Tracker' while indexing. It does open
many process (more then 220 process !) like in Ubuntu 12.04 from
official repository.

- When CPU get 100% at that time. Mouse and GUI like freezing and very slow
mouse with no interaction.
- Switching into terminal like tty6 (/sbin/getty) alt+ctrl+f6. it takes some
time like a minute then it shows up as login: (but not in all cases)
- Writing username takes some time then 'Enter' almost I get Time Out if it
does not come back after 60 sec.
or even if I login, login msg shows. but no terminal. One time I left my
machine like that for more then 30 min .

I don't know if is possible to use tty terminal as way to recover system
without reboot buy killing those processes, if getty was running with higher
priority instead of normal.

[Bug 141472] Re: Window titles are misaligned in RTL languanges

2010-09-29 Thread Abdellah Chelli
It seems like GTK make affect on title positioning (make Direction as
RTL, I don't know) when it detects an RTL text in the beginning; as in
Text Boxes, text starts with RTL always aligned to right.

This does not happen when title forced to be aligned to left.

2010-09-29 Thread Abdellah Chelli
Hi,

I'm using: Ubuntu 10.04, Compiz 0.8.4. No problem in title text
alignment (std theme, force it to left, I'm using English)

After installing Emerald and Enabling its themes:

- Titles start with LTR language no problem with them (even they contain
some RTL text in the middle or the end)

- Titles start with RTL language are misplaced to right (I can see only
its left part)

It is difficult to inform each developer to use str.format() instead of
% formatting operation.

I suggest making a generalized bug. Any one finds similar case can link
that tools and packages to it. As 'update-manager' and that one you have
told me about 'evolution-indicator'.

From: http://bugs.python.org/issue8359 ; This won't be fixed in python %
operation.

So we have 2 choices:

- Developers can use str.format() instead of % formatting operation. (a fix)
or
- Translators add the variables even if they are not needed. (a workaround)

It's a bug; As c/printf works well. @#4. Exactly is bug in '%' format
operation if not integrated in python/print as in c/printf.

Also it should fixed within python/print we don't have to change all old

In python; they use this form:

print n_("%i hour.", "%i hours.",n) % n

then it chooses one of the 2 strings if it is English or their
translation and replaces n_("%i hour.", "%i hours.",n).

if the result string don't have %i, there will an error in python/print.

[Bug 341015] Re: update-manager crashed with TypeError in _get_last_apt_get_update_text()

2010-04-09 Thread Abdellah Chelli
I think this bug is coming from python/print function.

As in Arabic,we have 6 plural forms. we used NOT to include the variable
(%i for example) in 0th, 1st & 2nd forms. This is the correct language.

I have check both c/printf and python/print. c/printf is more robust.

c/printf accepts this:

n=1;
printf("One hour.", n);

in other hand python/print rises an error:

n=1
print "One hour." % n

As a work around we could do some thing like "(%i) One hour.".

But should we pass this bug to python?

[Bug 485726] Re: No shaping in PyFribidi

2009-11-21 Thread Abdellah Chelli
I have contacted fribidi & pyfribidi authors. the resume:

- Ubuntu up to 9.10 includes fribidi 0.10.9 (fribidi0) which doesn't do
Arabic shaping (only bidi). Pyfribidi up to 0.6.0 was build on this
version.

- fribidi 0.19.2 (fribidi2) which has Arabic shaping feature is not
released yet officially.

Ref:
http://www.fribidi.org/
http://pyfribidi.sourceforge.net/

So this bug could be changed to Invalid or Wish-list? I don't know.
Thank you.

[Bug 355518] [NEW] Download dialog (Save dialog) seems as to be frozen but it is not.

2009-04-05 Thread Abdellah Chelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-art

Hi,

When the download button is clicked, the Save(download) dialog appears.
Then by clicking OK the Save(download) dialog seems like to be frozen,
but it is not the case.

Art manager is downloading the file but it does,'t show up any thing.
Until it closes the dialog window!

If you could add a progress window, it will be better. (so you will know
what it is exactly happening)

Have a nice day.
