[Bug 1988438] Re: Xorg crashes with [Failed to compile FS: 0:1(10): error: GLSL 1.30 is not supported ...] on Intel Penryn/Clarkdale

2024-07-21 Thread Adrian H
I just ran into this issue after a dist-upgrade of Ubuntu MATE to jammy.
Thanks for all the information!

Is an official fixed package for jammy still expected? The issue seems
to be fixed upstream, but the bug report here hasn't had any activity in
almost a year.

[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen9 GPUs) on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)

2024-06-20 Thread Adrian Elliott
I'm running Dell Latitude 7390 with Intel UHD Graphics 620 (8350U). So
8th Gen rather than 9th. I get occasional glitching, usually on battery
power and when scrolling, and always when pointer is in the bottom right
of screen. I did try the kernel params listed here (i915.enable_dc=0
intel_idle.max_cstate=2, intel_idle.max_cstate=4) and this did not
resolve. I have used Debian 12 and Fedora 40 on the same hardware and
did not observe this. The behaviour has occurred when using Firefox
(snap), VSCode (deb), Chrome (deb) and . Its not super intrusive on my
hardware but it is annoying.

[Bug 2063353] Re: [SRU] plasma-discover backends race condition cause GUI not to load

2024-05-26 Thread Adrian
I'm having the same problem but I've noticed one marginally interesting
point:

plasma-discover --backends snap-backend,packagekit-backend(Works)
plasma-discover --backends packagekit-backend,snap-backend(Does not work)

The only difference is the order of the backends.

[Bug 1983419] Re: cloud-init is always upgrading the kernel to latest

2024-05-20 Thread Adrian Vill
Hello team ubuntu,

Experiencing the same issue that was recently occurring due to the new build
iteration of 5.15.0 generic. I have NI driver dependencies that require this GA
kernel, and suddenly been breaking after
5.15.0-105.generic.

Source forum -
https://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/GPL-incompatible-module-nikal-ko-when-installing-NI-linux-driver/m-p/4372897

This ticket been open for some time now, curious if there was a change
or native option for subiquity to disable unattended-upgrades or add a
kernel parameter to select a requested build ( Prefer this over
downgrading )

Been trying to disable all unitended update/upgrades using a combination
of early, run and late commands in the userdata as well as parameters -
'package_update: false' & 'package_upgrade: false' with no success.

- Same issue, unresponsive to power button until a long-press was completed

[Bug 2059738] Re: Kernel 6.8 - Shutdown/Reboot hangs on Noble 24.04

2024-04-29 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Seeing this on my T460s as well

Suspend (on lid close) ; the machine reaches the state where the lid
light and the light on the power button "throb" as they would with
22.04, but the machine will not resume from suspend in response to
keyboard events, mouse events, or a brief press to the power button.

Poweroff : the machine reaches a state where everything appears "off",
no lights, no screen activity etc, but the machine does not restart in
response to a brief press of the power button.

In both cases, a long-press of the power button is required. You can
tell this has "taken" when the lights on the hardwire ethernet port
blink briefly on release.

Then a normal brief press will restart the machine.

Both of these conditions happen reliably on lid close (suspend) or
poweroff (from menu or command). Going to test reboot now since this is
mentioned above.

[Bug 2038694] Re: Now that exfat filesystem is in the kernel, allow using it for storing isos loopback booting and storing the persistence file

2024-03-23 Thread Adrian Feliks
@Adam Vodopjan (grozzly)

You're absolutely right. Currently, booting from exFAT doesn't work because
there's no module for it, neither built-in nor located in
early3/usr/lib/modules/6.8.0-11-generic/kernel/fs.
The command `manual_add_modules exfat` (patch @Glenn Washburn) adds exfat
module to the initrd during livecd creation.

See: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/tree/hooks/casper

Ubuntu 24.04 is coming soon...

[Bug 1951832] Re: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy

2022-04-28 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Can confirm that Robie's fix works.

2) Step by step repro instructions

Requirements : An L2TP VPN server (Windows Server)

- Install Ubuntu 22.04
- Install network-manager-l2tp-gnome (and requirements)
- Configure a new L2TP VPN connection for your server
  (in my case, not sure if this detail is required)
  - Configure gateway address
  - Configure password auth
  - In the IPsec Options, enable IPsec tunnelling
  - Configure the PSK from your server
  - In the PPP Options, enable MSPPE, and disable MSCHAP (leaving MSCHAPv2 the
only auth option)

Open a window with `journalctl -ef` running to watch the logs.
Initiate the connection from nm-applet.

3) As someone definitely affected, and with a suitable corporate VPN
endpoint available, I'll be happy to test the proposed updates.

[Bug 1951832] Re: xl2tpd "Can not find tunnel" in jammy

2022-04-26 Thread Adrian Wilkins
More of a meta comment :

If Ubuntu wishes to be taken seriously as a professional workstation OS
(as I'm sure it will do, with an impending IPO next year), issues
blocking VPN connectivity - especially to the Usual Suspect endpoints
like L2TP (which will cover anyone using e.g. Azure for their corporate
VPN) - need to be considered far more important.

This issue was reported four months ago and will block Azure VPN
connections from 22.04 until it's fixed (in the absence of workarounds),
which means that many users would be unable to do their job, but has yet
to be marked with an importance other than "Undecided".

As an engineer who believes strongly that Linux has a place among his
co-workers, it gets increasingly hard to justify this to operations when
their compliance requirements (like connecting to VPNs) cannot be met
out of the box.

L2TP is, yes, a Microsoft thing. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be
taking it seriously - quite the opposite, as that means it forms a
substantial minority of VPN endpoints out there.

Hackarounds like manually installing old package versions or alternative
VPN clients [1] do not inspire confidence.

I know that the maintainers are absolutely doing their best within the
constraints they are operating in, this comment is more directed at
Canonical, in the hope that they can understand this is a part of the
distro that needs to be tested and supported more rigorously.

[Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

2022-04-21 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Confirm (in KVM machines) that Unity works fine from gdm3 under Impish,
but a fresh VM of Jammy doesn't work with either lightdm or gdm for me.

I get to see a quick glimpse of the Unity desktop, then this fullscreen
splash error shows up

"Oh no! Something has gone wrong.

A problem has occurred and the system can't recover.
All extensions have been disabled as a precaution."

Since it refers to extensions, I presume this is a part of GNOME Shell.

However... if you use the keyboard shortcut to left-split the window
(ctrl-super-left) ... you can see the Unity desktop is running. (I first
tried ctrl-alt-t to summon a terminal above it but the window is always-
on-top, I saw it lose focus though.)

[Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

2022-04-20 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Is this a `gnome-session` issue? The source sayeth (@ gnome-
session/main.c:422)

/* From 3.14 GDM sets XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP. For compatibility with
 * older versions of GDM, other display managers, and startx,
 * set a fallback value if we don't find it set.
 */

There doesn't seem to be any other location in the code that sets
`XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP` and this code hasn't changed between the two
versions listed above.

Is this because of a change to `gdm` ? Does it work if you switch to
lightdm?

`gdm` sets this from the session definition, which is patched into
gnome-session by

debian/patches/ubuntu/ubuntu-sessions.patch

(the patch file has changed between revisions but mostly to remove a
community session)

gdm fetches this @ daemon/gdm-session.c:2612  get_session_desktop_names()

filename = g_strdup_printf ("%s.desktop", get_session_name (self));
g_debug ("GdmSession: getting desktop names for file '%s'", filename);
keyfile = load_key_file_for_file (self, filename, NULL, NULL);
if (keyfile != NULL) {
  gchar **names;

  names = g_key_file_get_string_list (keyfile,
G_KEY_FILE_DESKTOP_GROUP,
  "DesktopNames", NULL, NULL);

Can't see any obvious changes in GDM between Impish and Jammy that would
cause this just from looking at the diffs though.

Zink will use internally lower-level parts from the Iris driver to access
the hardware, so at least this indicates that the issue is *below* the
OpenGL/GLES implementation. Could be EGL or hardware access, I suppose.

When a driver that was set explicitly like this fails to load, Mesa falls
back to using software rendering. This means you ended up here using the
swrast/llvmpipe driver, most likely (you can load “webkit://gpu” in the
Minibrowser or Epiphany to check this). This means that WebKit is most
likely using the GLX/EGL/OpenGL/GLES APIs correctly and the issue lies
somewhere in the Intel driver.

But the version of Mesa I am using here is the same as you and it works.
My suspicion is that one of the following is happening:

 * Patches applied by Debian/Ubuntu on top of Mesa are breaking the Intel
   driver. Here I am using Arch Linux, which does not apply any patches.
 * The Intel driver is being miscompiled somehow by the compiler toolchain
   shipped by Ubuntu. In case it helps, here Arch stable has GCC 11.2.0 as
   the default system compiler, so that's what gets used to build packages.
 * The bug could be related to your particular GPU model (and the
   corresponding code inside Mesa for it).

I hope this helps :)

[Bug 1966418]

2022-03-29 Thread Adrian Vovk
OK I found a way to fix it @ package time! I previously built webkitgtk
with -DENABLE_X11_TARGET=OFF. I tried building with
-DENABLE_X11_TARGET=ON (since this is the major difference between my
build and the gnome-build-meta build, aside from Mesa version), and now
it works properly

Seems like disabling the x11 backend also accidentally disables parts of
the Wayland backend somewhere

[Bug 1966418]

2022-03-29 Thread Adrian Vovk
I don't compile WebKit w/ X11 support so I can't tell you if running
epiphany w/ GDK_BACKEND=x11 helps anything

---

I do not see those EGL errors when I run epiphany on the host. However,
if I run the Epiphany flatpak with FLATPAK_GL_DRIVERS=host, I get

EGLDisplay Initialization failed: EGL_BAD_PARAMETER
Cannot create EGL context: invalid display (last error: EGL_SUCCESS)

but the webviews still show up (they're just sluggish). When running
with FLATPAK_GL_DRIVERS=host, the epiphany flatpak starts crashing when
opening about:gpu

---

Downgrading to Mesa 21.3.8 on the host does not solve the issue for me.
Not sure what's going on here, because Epiphany from Flathub (using Mesa
21.3.8, WebKitGTK 2.36.0) works perfectly fine in my environment

[Bug 1965518] [NEW] [USB-Audio - USB Audio, recording] Recording problem

2022-03-18 Thread Adrian Hareńczyk
Public bug reported:

Microphone when using built in mbo MSI Z690 Edge WiFi DDR4 audio Realtek
ALC4080 is not recording audio. What I did found out, that the bar which
indicates that something is recording is going up, when I play some
sound on ubuntu, so input "thinks" it is output I think.

If raport is somehow saying I was not using that mic at the moment, that
is because I was using other card which I need to buy, for mic to
temporarly work. I rechecked it before sending report, and yes, that
original from MBO audio input is still not working.

[Bug 1937295] Re: [SRU]PCI: vmd: Do not disable MSI-X remapping if interrupt remapping is enabled by IOMMU

BTW, would it be possible to include the upstream commit
(https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/iommu/intel?id=b00833768e170a31af09268f7ab96aecfcca9623)
in Ubuntu 22.04 kernel?

This is another VMD issue. It would be appreciated if it can be merged
in 22.04 kernel.

The commit is also in stable kernel v5.15.27.

Would it be possible to include the fix patch in Ubuntu 22.04? We need
Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy) daily build because the issue can be produced

[Bug 1952217] Re: bluetoothd coredumps from double free on connection of headset

2021-11-25 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Syslog from affected system.

- First action is to select the affected headset from the Bluetooth
applet

The first thing that happens is the coredum. Then the service restarts ;
this seems to be fast enough that the connection is still in progress,
you can see the audio endpoints being registered,

? because the state is lost this does not complete and the device
reports disconnection. *

- Second action is activation of a Bluetooth keyboard

This connects and functions correctly

- Third action is selecting the affected headset again

Same response. The keyboard is also disconnected but reconnects
automatically.

* this is not true : these endpoints are re-registered merely on
restarting the bluetooth service.

[Bug 1946216] [NEW] PL2303GL chips not recognised by 21.10 beta

2021-10-06 Thread Adrian Knagg-Baugh
Public bug reported:

L2303GL usb to serial chips are not recognised by the pl2303 module in
5.13.0-16-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 3 14:53:27 UTC 2021 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux (the current 21.10 candidate kernel). These
chips are fairly common so it will cause a problem for users.

I reported this to the upstream maintainer and he confirmed it is a
known issue and fixed by commit dcf097e7d21f ("USB: serial: pl2303: fix
GL type detection"). Please backport for 21.10.

Email correspondence confirming bug pasted below.

[Bug 1943430] [NEW] Restarted computer, touchpad stopped working.

2021-09-13 Thread Adrian
Public bug reported:

Was using the computer quickly to join a zoom call like normal. Didn't
install anything or modify any files. Shut off the computer only to
start it up again and have the touchpad not working. Using Thinkpad
T470S. Worth mentioning that the trackpoint (red button on keyboard) has
not been working ever since install. Trackpad buttons (the three above
the touchpad) do not work either, but they have worked once after
intense googling, but do not work either right now.

Hey, it says bug status is "Incomplete", but shouldn't it be moved from
this status?

I think that there is a very specific information in description and
attachments so maybe logs are not needed?

Apologies, I thought I'd replied to Colin's msg above.

I'd rebuilt the box a couple of time by the time I read that and no
longer had the make.log available as the disk had been reformated. Can
confirm that moving to 21.04 and no longer had the problem

[Bug 1931609] Re: gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad compilation from sources: missing cuda.h

2021-06-14 Thread Adrian
As I don't need to compile gstreamer from source anymore, this bug doesn't
affect me anymore.
However, I think there is still an issue there. Using the latest Ubuntu docker
image one gets compilation errors.

Way to reproduce:
docker -it --rm ubuntu /bin/bash
In the container:
 sed -i '/deb-src/s/^# //' /etc/apt/sources.list && apt update
 apt install dpkg-dev devscripts
 apt install build-essential
 apt source gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad
 apt build-dep gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad

[Bug 1919472] [NEW] 5.4.0-1040-azure taints kernel with a warning (512)

2021-03-17 Thread Adrian
Public bug reported:

Since GitHub Actions has been updated to 5.4.0-1040-azure our CI
(https://github.com/checkpoint-restore/criu/issues/1390) fails because a
user space test leads to a kernel warning:

Our test checks before each test if the tainted value has changed and
aborts the CI run with a failure if the kernel is tainted.

So in this case the kernel is tainted and our tests are aborted.

This did not happen with 5.4.0-1039-azure. So this is a regression
introduce with 5.4.0-1040-azure.

[Bug 1878045] Re: doing dist-upgrade got error related do Broadcom

2021-01-11 Thread Adrian
@angels After the latest update I had that issue too. Wifi bar in the settings
was completely gone. When I typed: "apt purge bcmwl-kernel-source" command I
got this message:
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permission
denied)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are
you root?

I tried again with sudo prefix and it worked, so if you are still having the
issue try this:
sudo apt purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-source
sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-dkms
sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-common

Hope it will work for you as well!

Hello!

I have updated the Debian package to version 540.1.linux3-1 now which is
used by Fedora, openSUSE and other distributions.

Someone from Ubuntu would need to import the latest sources from Debian
to update the package.

Thanks,

[Bug 1897433] Re: gfortran coarray library not compiling with Ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-08 Thread Adrian Barbuio
Thank you @Brian for responding to this bug and, in essence, my email.
It seems there is no way to install open-coarrays on Ubuntu 20.04 that
is entirely functional. If this is not a gcc-defaults bug, then how
should i proceed in terms of addressing the issue and trying to install
this package.

Regards, Adrian

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-09-30 Thread Adrian Barbuio
Okay, ever since I installed this bug fix, my mouse has been playing up.
First, dragging and dropping across windows exhibited errant behaviour,
such as dropping the dragging item in between box borders. Now, every
once in a while, my mouse's primary buttons switch. The original issue
has been resolved but this new issue is a little bit more problematic. I
am using Ubuntu 20.04 with @cristiano patch

[Bug 1897433] [NEW] gfortran coarray library not compiling with Ubuntu 20.04

2020-09-26 Thread Adrian Barbuio
Public bug reported:

I have been trying to install and run coarray libraries for gfortran.
Every instruction set I can find on the interwebs gives Ubuntu 18.04
instructions. So far, I have run into a series of errors, using 20.04
and it seems I am not alone. Here is where I am at:

I was looking to run coarrays in gfortran. I was following instructions
et al that directed me to download open-coarrays-bin using apt. I get an
error message saying that apt is unable to find the package. I found
another post mentioning this error in 20.04, at
https://github.com/sourceryinstitute/OpenCoarrays/issues/702. So, I was
informed of a workaround, with the commands:

```
cd ~/Downloads
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/h/hwloc/libhwloc5_1.11.9-1_amd64.deb
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/o/openmpi/libopenmpi2_2.1.1-8_amd64.deb
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/o/open-coarrays/libcaf-mpi2_2.0.0~rc1-2_amd64.deb
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/o/open-coarrays/open-coarrays-bin_2.0.0~rc1-2_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install ./libhwloc5_1.11.9-1_amd64.deb
./libopenmpi2_2.1.1-8_amd64.deb ./libcaf-mpi2_2.0.0~rc1-2_amd64.deb
./open-coarrays-bin_2.0.0~rc1-2_amd64.deb
```

And so, now, checking, the binary package is installed, but when I go to
compile a test script:

```
gfortran -fcoarray=lib test_coarray.f95 -o testcoarray
```

I get the error:

```
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/cctOU7Q5.o: in function `MAIN__':
test_coarray.f95:(.text+0x67): undefined reference to `_gfortran_caf_this_image'
/usr/bin/ld: test_coarray.f95:(.text+0xaf): undefined reference to
`_gfortran_caf_num_images'
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/cctOU7Q5.o: in function `main':
test_coarray.f95:(.text+0x11c): undefined reference to `_gfortran_caf_init'
/usr/bin/ld: test_coarray.f95:(.text+0x148): undefined reference to
`_gfortran_caf_finalize'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
```

using caf directly:

```
caf test_coarray.f95 -o testcoarray
```

I get the error:

```
gfortran: error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.a: No such file or
directory
Error: comand:
   `/usr/bin/mpifort -I/usr/include/OpenCoarrays-2.0.0-rc1_GNU-7.3.0
-fcoarray=lib test_coarray.f95 -o testcoarray
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.a`
failed to compile.
```

Okay, so I do some digging and it seems that the libcaf_mpi.a file does
not exist. Running:

```
ls /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu | grep libcaf
```

I get:

```
libcaf_mpich.a
libcaf_mpich.so
libcaf_mpich.so.3
libcaf_mpi.so.2
libcaf_openmpi.a
libcaf_openmpi.so
libcaf_openmpi.so.3
```

I saw somewhere in my searching that someone modified the /usr/bin/caf
file, changing the line:

```
caf_libs=(lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.a) # e.g. "libcaf_mpi"
"libcaf_extensions",
```

to:

```
caf_libs=(lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.so.2) # e.g. "libcaf_mpi"
"libcaf_extensions",
```

So, now, I try to compile the code, but I get the message:

```
f951: Warning: Nonexistent include directory
‘/usr/include/OpenCoarrays-2.0.0-rc1_GNU-7.3.0’ [-Wmissing-include-dirs]
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libmpi_mpifh.so.20, needed by
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.so.2, may conflict with libmpi_mpifh.so.40
/usr/bin/ld: warning: libgfortran.so.4, needed by
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcaf_mpi.so.2, may conflict with libgfortran.so.5
```

So, it seems there is some unmet dependencies in the repositories, but I
am not sure. I have, here, reached the end of both my expertise and, it
seems, the internet trail of this bug. It would seem that this all works
in Ubuntu 18.04, but I have not tested it myself, so I cannot be sure. I
thank you for reading this far and really do hope that I haven't
overloaded you with too much detail. Coarrays really is necessary for my
work and your help here will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know
if there is any more information needed and it will be provided
posthaste.

Regards, Adrian

@Marco thank you for your post regarding the test packages (comment
#50). This has almost solved the problem for me. I still get enlarged
text at the decryption password screen. Not a problem for me, but maybe
the information will help you guys.

[Bug 1892521] Re: Shell text is too big in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2

2020-08-29 Thread Adrian Barbuio
I did just want to add that it seems the update has affected the mouse
as well. Transitions between windows seems to occasionally disable the
mouse click momentarily. This is an issue in dragging and dropping,
which will occasionally cut out or display unpredictable behavior. I am
fairly certain this isn't an issue with my mouse and the issue emerged
just as this update occurred.
