[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-10-24 Thread Aergistal
The solution that worked in my case:

4.13.0-16-lowlatency
Nvidia GT 620
gdm3 with Wayland

sudo apt purge nvidia*
sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
sudo apt install nvidia-384

[Bug 1310551] Re: NVIDIA proprietary driver 331.38 from package nvidia-331 on Xubuntu 14.04 causes display to hang

2014-09-20 Thread Aergistal
Hello, I have similar issues on a Toshiba Satellite notebook running
Trusty 14.04 x64 and a Nvidia 540M GPU (Optimus with another on-board
Intel HD).

Using 331.38 or 331.38 updates causes a freeze at the end of the splash
screen shown during reboot. The Unity Greeter is never shown and the
only way to regain control is to revert to console, purge all nvidia
packages and use the Nouveau driver.

There is nothing out of ordinary in Xorg.log. It seems to load the
driver. Last lines in the log are:

[40.403] reporting 5 8 7 53
[40.809] reporting 5 8 7 53
[41.320] reporting 5 8 7 53

The freeze on the boot splash screen happens also with the latest nvidia
drivers from xorg-edgers (343.22). It also worked fine for a few months
and if I remember correctly it started to do it after an Ubuntu software
update. I don't know which one caused it though.
