[Bug 1653386] [NEW] Gamepad not recognized as joystick
Public bug reported: I recently brought out my old bluetooth HID gamepad (iPEGA PG-9053) and was surprised to find that I didn't get any input in SDL games, though I know it used to work with older versions of Ubuntu (approximately 14.04 I think). KDE's "input devices" configuration would be able to perfectly read from /dev/input/js0 but many games failed to get any input from the gamepad. It turns out that the reason for this is that the event devices (/dev/input/event*) were not readable for the default Ubuntu user (crw- rw, group=input). It seems that only devices that are marked as Joysticks will have global read permission set for them. This means that apparently my humble gamepad was not detected as such. The following is the udev info for my gamepad: $ udevadm info --name=input/event21 P: /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 N: input/event21 E: BACKSPACE=guess E: DEVNAME=/dev/input/event21 E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 E: ID_BUS=bluetooth E: ID_INPUT=1 E: ID_INPUT_KEY=1 E: ID_INPUT_KEYBOARD=1 E: ID_INPUT_MOUSE=1 E: LIBINPUT_DEVICE_GROUP=5/1949/402/11b:00:1a:7d:0a:ba:28 E: MAJOR=13 E: MINOR=85 E: SUBSYSTEM=input E: USEC_INITIALIZED=7821377694 E: XKBLAYOUT=us,il E: XKBMODEL=pc105 E: XKBOPTIONS=grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll E: XKBVARIANT=, $ udevadm test-builtin input_id /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5.3/2-1.5.3:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:12/0005:1949:0402.000A/input/input31/event21 calling: test-builtin === trie on-disk === tool version: 231 file size: 7291492 bytes header size 80 bytes strings1819268 bytes nodes 5472144 bytes Load module index Found container virtualization none timestamp of '/etc/systemd/network' changed timestamp of '/lib/systemd/network' changed Parsed configuration file /lib/systemd/network/99-default.link Created link configuration context. [Bug 1497539] [NEW] Replace Ktorrent with a more functional torrent client
Public bug reported: Hello, Ktorrent hasn't had a new release in two years, the last real commit to the ktorrent repository was on 2014-12-19 and to the libktorrent repository on 2014-05-28. It doesn't work out of the box (trouble accepting magnet links from chrome/chromium) and other issues. There are other clients that provide a more streamlined experience and are more actively developed such as Qbittorrent (similar GUI to Ktorrent) and Qtransmission both of which don't suffer from KTorrent's issues. Hello Christopher, It is still an issue in 14.10, I also believe that there is an ongoing discussion about it on the kernel bugzilla [1] and the issue is unresolved. [Bug 1406480] [NEW] Xorg freezes
Public bug reported: Symptoms: Xorg freezes completely. Audio kept going for a while but then stopped too. Mouse cursor is the only thing I can control on the screen. ctrl+alt+f1-7 don't seem to work. What I was doing at the time: Watching a youtube video and trying to connect a bluetooth gamepad. [Bug 1386867] Re: radeon fence failure reduces screen resolution
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: While using Kubuntu 14.10 sometimes the screen blacks out for a few seconds and then comes back to life, but often with highly reduced resolution. The resolution of the screen actually seems to be fine (as evident by taking a screenshot) but things seem to get rendered on a much too small buffer and then streched to fit the screen (terrible upscaling?). Sorry I'm having a hard time explaining it, but see the attached screenshot. This actually happened multiple times. One time it logged me out of KDE, another time KDE stayed active but the resolution was reduced (or whatever this is) Attached is the output of dmesg, the relevant error seems to start here: [12105.193052] radeon :01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 10140msec [12105.193058] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup (waiting for 0x000dec08 last fence id 0x000dec03 on ring 0) [12105.674184] radeon :01:00.0: Saved 592 dwords of commands on ring 0. Happened to me twice this week. My laptop is an HP TX2500 which has the following network chip: 08:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Sometimes even a reboot doesn't fix the problem until I completely shutdown and then power up again. [Bug 608767] [NEW] dpkg expects capital letters in DistUpgradeViewKde
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager The code in DistUpgradeViewKde.py is unused as far as I can tell, but it serves as documentation(when RTFM isn't enough it's RTF source code) for other people who need to write similar software(eg. me) so here is a fix for a simple bug I found while reading through it. When there is a conflicting configuration file the user is prompted to chose how he wants to deal with it, Y for use the new file N for keep the old file...etc. The updater currently passes {y,n} which dpkg ignores because it expects capital letters.
