[Bug 1204911] [NEW] Does not load Ubuntu GNOME after login

2013-07-25 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

Testing Ubuntu GNOME for entire disk with lvm and encryption. After
reboot, once the passphrase is given, there's a delay of couple of
minutes before the login screen shows up. Once the password is given,
there's this dark screen with just 'Ubuntu' on it. I let it be for about
25 minutes before I got a login screen again. When I entered the
password, it said 'sign in' and not 'unlock' again. After this second
signing in, all I can see is the same dark screen. I'm through with an
hour after sign in. No sign of Ubuntu GNOME yet. Strangely, the
screenshot is completely dark and shows absolutely nothing. All
screenshots attached. I'm on VB. I've noticed that keyboard shortcuts
like cut and paste on host are not working now either though I'm able to
do the same with the mouse.

[Bug 1204897] [NEW] GNOME - 'Instal Ubuntu GNOME' button remains active even after you click on it

2013-07-25 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

When 'Install Ubuntu GNOME' button is clicked, expectedly, it should get
deactivated maybe along with 'Try Ubuntu GNOME' button. It doesn't
happen so. Instead, 'Try Ubuntu GNOME' button gets deactivated and makes
one think whether one has clicked 'Try Ubuntu GNOME' button by mistake.

If it is so, maybe you can just close it.
But, there's no doubt that a double click makes Orage open and close in a flash.

[Bug 1066566] Re: Wow, there is 'Skip' button, but it seems to remain deactivated throughout and hence is unusable.

2012-10-15 Thread Akhila
Yes. I could see it activated for 'configuring apt', 'scanning the CD-
ROM' and 'Retrieving files ..'. I'm not sure whether Skip actually
worked with initial two steps. But retrieving seems to have happened a
bit quickly than usual. But I didn't see any warning of
aborting/skipping an action down in the log.

[Bug 1066566] Re: 'Skip' button remains deactivated throughout and hence is unusable.

2012-10-15 Thread Akhila
Okay. I'll check if that can be done. Because as far as I've observed, 'Skip'
remains deactivated. Maybe I should keep my eyes fixed on it for more time.
But then, if we inted to provide a provision to the user to skip certain steps,
shouldn't we make it more obvious? I myself didn't know about this option 4
days ago, though I'm testing same image from almost two and a half months now.
With no particular intention, I just clicked on the grey bar and I got the
expanded view. What I'm trying to say is, users who are not testers will not
repeatedly use the image for installation, not on a daily basis at least. So,
isn't their chance of realising this option less? And if so, isn't it almost
futile to provide this option at all?

Anyways, I'll update once I follow your suggestion with my next
installation.

Thank you.

Public bug reported:

Running desktop on VirtualBox. When mouse is moved over the installer info, it
becomes grey and when clicked on it a 'Skip' button appears at the end of this
greyed out block and below it appears installation information on a black
background. This 'Skip' button remains deactivated throughout, until the
installation completes. Hence, it serves no purpose, hopefully of hiding
installation details. Screenshots attached:

[Bug 1065535] [NEW] Terminal log is sometimes a mix of Kannada and English and unreadable

2012-10-11 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Desktop i386 Kannada version running on VirtualBox. I had no
problem with the logs of commands like 'sudo apt-get update' and '..
dist-upgrade'. When I tried executing 'hud-cli' the result was pretty
much a mess of Kannada and English and was unreadable. Output was purely
in English for just 'apt-get update' and there was some confusion again
with the display language when I tried reporting a bug. Screenshots
attached.

[Bug 1056136] [NEW] 'Amazon' icon disappears from launcher after opening it once

2012-09-25 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

Testing Quantal desktop i386. After logging in for the first time, I
could see 'Amazon' icon on the launcher. On clicking it, I was properly
directed to the Amazon website. However, the icon disappears from the
launcher after using it once, automatically. I religiously executed apt-
get update and apt-get dist-upgrade before checking out anything else on
the desktop.

[Bug 1048782] [NEW] Geonames : Choosing a location with a mouse click is misleading

2012-09-10 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

I tried choosing the Kolkata time zone by clicking on the map. When I chose to
click on the center of the Indian map, the location chosen was Kathmandu
(Screenshot 1). When clicked on the west region of the Indian map, the location
selected was Karachi (Screenshot 2). When clicked on the south region of the
Indian map, the location selected was Colombo (Screenshot 3). And to choose
Kolkata, I was expected to click just around the actual location of the city
(Screenshot 4) though India has just one time zone and it is recognized as the
Kolkata time zone. It can surely mislead an unassuming user, who will probably
try chosing the location with a click somewhere/anywhere on the Indian map. I
do not know if this is the case with other regions on the map.
Again, if one keeps the mouse intact and makes multiple clicks with enough time
for location to be chosen each time, different locations are selected.

Everytime I opt VMWare Easy Install for Quantal, this problem pops up.
This has happened with Quantal Beta 1 as well. I can login, though.

[Bug 1043843] Re: When a location name is typed in the text box on 'Where are you page', drop down list doesn't always show right location names

2012-09-05 Thread Akhila
If google info is anything to go by, geoname-lookup also shows names that are
not expected along with right results.
I tried http://geoname-lookup.ubuntu.com/?query=New York. Result was : [{"name"
: "New York", "admin1" : "New York", "country" : "United States", "longitude" :
"-74.005970", "latitude" : "40.714270" }, {"name" : "New York", "admin1" : "New

"-74.005970", "latitude" : "40.714270" }]
According to wiki, New York borg stands for New York City(NYC) in Icelandic;
Lungsod ng New York stands for NYC in Filipino and New York kenti is NYC in
Turkish.
Search for http://geoname-lookup.ubuntu.com/?query=New York City gives:
 [{"name" : "New York City", "admin1" : "New York", "country" : "United
States", "longitude" : "-74.005970", "latitude" : "40.714270" }, {"name" : "The
City of New York", "admin1" : "New York", "country" : "United States",
"longitude" : "-74.005970", "latitude" : "40.714270" }].
What I intend to say is:
1. There's no necessity to include city names in languages other than English
when one's chosen language is English.
2. If at all it should be included, then it should be included in a relevant
list.

Hope that helps.

As with * check if ubiquity is doing the correct requests / caching of the
geodata / timezones, I don't know how to go about it.
If you can let me have more info, I'd be glad to do the checks. But a simple
mouse click test says that not all is well with the geonames. Going to raise a
bug for that and will post the link here.

[Bug 1044813] Re: Compiz closed unexpectedly

2012-09-02 Thread Akhila
I'm very much on the learning curve. So every little input matters to
me, whether said the hard way or soft :). Thanks for the info. But to
keep you informed, I've been executing the same testcase for past couple
of days with same images and updated builds. I was doing the job like I
did everyday. But the response was different, output was different.
Testcase in the scene requires me to do just sudo apt-get update. I did
that yesterday as well. Even then, there was this compiz core problem.
I've filed couple of bugs to be familiar enough with apport. The way it
responded yesterday was totally new to me as I hadn't experienced any
problem with apport thus far. It's known that changes are happening with
Quantal. There's a fair possibility that a change impacts something
which was previously working fine. That was the sole reason for filing
the bug.

[Bug 1043843] Re: When a location name is typed in the text box on 'Where are you page', drop down list doesn't always show right location names

2012-09-01 Thread Akhila
I don't hail from Kolkata. So it's in no way my choise of 'particular'
location within IST. IST is recognized as Kolkata time zone on these
maps for whatever reason. I believe it requires fixing, because we
cannot expect every user to know how his/her time zone is recognized on
the map. User may choose to type out his/her location name exactly. I
know for instance, I can choose Bengaluru as the location and proceed
(though, after installation system chooses to show location as Kolkata
again). Problem is not that. Simply typing out a location name doesn't
change the pointer on the map. It has to be picked up from the drop down
list. Now, irrespective of where your pointer is, if you type Kolkata,
like I did, for a moment the right drop down list appears and before you
move your mouse, it vanishes and some other irrelevant list comes up,
which makes choosing impossible. Then, if you BACKSPACE the last letter
'a' in Kolkata and retype it, behold, there's your right list! I guess
there's something happening that shouldn't.

[Bug 1043488] Re: scroll wheel does not work in VirtualBox during LiveCD session

2012-09-01 Thread Akhila
Yes, the mouse and scroll wheel work perfectly fine during and after
installation. I didn't install anything exclusively to make them work.
Maybe, like you said, OEL could be equipped with the special drivers.
I'll try and install another OS, possibly MS Windows, and check. Since
I've run Quantal on VMWare Player as well, I know as a fact that these
problems do not exist there, though it makes sure to bump you with one
or two different issues.

[Bug 1043860] Re: Manual setting of time and date has no effect on the clock present on the desktop

2012-09-01 Thread Akhila
Time and date changes get reflected on the desktop clock. I'm having a
trouble right now in figuring out how soon it changes as the system
response is immensly slow, like it's taking minutes to respond. But,
yes, changes are accepted.

Just to check whether it's actually a problem with VirtualBox, I tested with
Oracle Enterprise Linux. There wasn't any problem.
No missing mouse pointer, no problem with the scroll wheel.

[Bug 986806] Re: swap not activated after choosing 'use whole disk' with encrypted home

2012-08-31 Thread Akhila
I tried reproducing the bug with Quantal running on VirtualBox with disk space
10.7GB .
jibel's words echo exactly what I experienced.
While rebooting it said,

"The disk drive for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 not ready yet or not present.
Continue to wait or Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery."

Within a minute system rebboted without any error.
On booting, like you suggested, I executed "free -m"
The result is:

swan@swan-VirtualBox:~$ free -m

Mem: 1003620382 0 24338

Though, "sudo sfdisk -l" produced an error:

Honestly, I didn't understand that.

When a location name is typed in the text box on 'Where are you page',
drop down list doesn't always show right location names. Example, when I
typed Kolkata, it was giving out the result Kolkat, Mazandaran, Iran and
when I backspaced 'a' in Kolkata and retyped it, the right drop down
list appeared. To check again, I typed London, the drop down list showed
results for Londo. Backspacing 'n' in London and re-typing it worked.

Testcase for installation(entire disk) of Ubuntu Desktop i386 Quantal
Daily requires 'Check Erase Disk and Install Ubuntu' radio button to be

[Bug 1035287] Re: Casper filesystem error on live system run

2012-08-16 Thread Akhila
Hello melchiaros,
I downloaded the latest build the way you suggested.
And on entering a live session, I got this prompt both on VMWare Player and
VirtualBox.
So, I'm setting the status back to 'new'.
About 'LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Alpha i386
(20120803.1)' I guess the number 20120803 stands for August 3, 2012. I'm
attaching a new screenshot of part of the details of the report that apport
generated.

** Changed in: casper (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

[Bug 1035078] [NEW] Inactive window

2012-08-09 Thread Akhila
Public bug reported:

When an application is opened on 12.10 running on VMWare Player, the opened
window stays inactive.
Window is unmovable, has no close, restore or minimize/maximize buttons.
Rather, these buttons appear along the task bar beside window name. The window
becomes active only when the minimize button on the task bar is clicked, which
then becomes movable with buttons intact. The window can be closed or restored
even with the buttons on the task bar. Please check the screen shots attached
for clarity.
