[Bug 1204911] [NEW] Does not load Ubuntu GNOME after login
Public bug reported: Testing Ubuntu GNOME for entire disk with lvm and encryption. After reboot, once the passphrase is given, there's a delay of couple of minutes before the login screen shows up. Once the password is given, there's this dark screen with just 'Ubuntu' on it. I let it be for about 25 minutes before I got a login screen again. When I entered the password, it said 'sign in' and not 'unlock' again. After this second signing in, all I can see is the same dark screen. I'm through with an hour after sign in. No sign of Ubuntu GNOME yet. Strangely, the screenshot is completely dark and shows absolutely nothing. All screenshots attached. I'm on VB. I've noticed that keyboard shortcuts like cut and paste on host are not working now either though I'm able to do the same with the mouse. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2013-07-25 18:12:53.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204911/+attachment/3748790/+files/Screenshot%20from%202013-07-25%2018%3A12%3A53.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204911 Title: Does not load Ubuntu GNOME after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1204911/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes. I could see it activated for 'configuring apt', 'scanning the CD- ROM' and 'Retrieving files ..'. I'm not sure whether Skip actually worked with initial two steps. But retrieving seems to have happened a bit quickly than usual. [Bug 1066566] Re: 'Skip' button remains deactivated throughout and hence is unusable.
Okay. I'll check if that can be done. Because as far as I've observed, 'Skip' remains deactivated. Maybe I should keep my eyes fixed on it for more time. But then, if we inted to provide a provision to the user to skip certain steps, shouldn't we make it more obvious? I myself didn't know about this option 4 days ago, though I'm testing same image from almost two and a half months now. With no particular intention, I just clicked on the grey bar and I got the expanded view. What I'm trying to say is, users who are not testers will not repeatedly use the image for installation, not on a daily basis at least. So, isn't their chance of realising this option less? And if so, isn't it almost futile to provide this option at all? Anyways, I'll update once I follow your suggestion with my next installation. [Bug 1065535] [NEW] Terminal log is sometimes a mix of Kannada and English and unreadable
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Desktop i386 Kannada version running on VirtualBox. I had no problem with the logs of commands like 'sudo apt-get update' and '.. dist-upgrade'. When I tried executing 'hud-cli' the result was pretty much a mess of Kannada and English and was unreadable. Output was purely in English for just 'apt-get update' and there was some confusion again with the display language when I tried reporting a bug. Screenshots attached. [Bug 1048782] [NEW] Geonames : Choosing a location with a mouse click is misleading
Public bug reported: I tried choosing the Kolkata time zone by clicking on the map. When I chose to click on the center of the Indian map, the location chosen was Kathmandu (Screenshot 1). When clicked on the west region of the Indian map, the location selected was Karachi (Screenshot 2). When clicked on the south region of the Indian map, the location selected was Colombo (Screenshot 3). And to choose Kolkata, I was expected to click just around the actual location of the city (Screenshot 4) though India has just one time zone and it is recognized as the Kolkata time zone. It can surely mislead an unassuming user, who will probably try chosing the location with a click somewhere/anywhere on the Indian map. I do not know if this is the case with other regions on the map. Again, if one keeps the mouse intact and makes multiple clicks with enough time for location to be chosen each time, different locations are selected. What I intend to say is: 1. There's no necessity to include city names in languages other than English when one's chosen language is English. 2. If at all it should be included, then it should be included in a relevant list. Hope that helps. As with * check if ubiquity is doing the correct requests / caching of the geodata / timezones, I don't know how to go about it. If you can let me have more info, I'd be glad to do the checks. But a simple mouse click test says that not all is well with the geonames. [Bug 1044813] Re: Compiz closed unexpectedly
I'm very much on the learning curve. So every little input matters to me, whether said the hard way or soft :). Thanks for the info. But to keep you informed, I've been executing the same testcase for past couple of days with same images and updated builds. I was doing the job like I did everyday. But the response was different, output was different. Testcase in the scene requires me to do just sudo apt-get update. I did that yesterday as well. Even then, there was this compiz core problem. I've filed couple of bugs to be familiar enough with apport. The way it responded yesterday was totally new to me as I hadn't experienced any problem with apport thus far. It's known that changes are happening with Quantal. There's a fair possibility that a change impacts something which was previously working fine. [Bug 1043843] Re: When a location name is typed in the text box on 'Where are you page', drop down list doesn't always show right location names
I don't hail from Kolkata. So it's in no way my choise of 'particular' location within IST. IST is recognized as Kolkata time zone on these maps for whatever reason. I believe it requires fixing, because we cannot expect every user to know how his/her time zone is recognized on the map. User may choose to type out his/her location name exactly. I know for instance, I can choose Bengaluru as the location and proceed (though, after installation system chooses to show location as Kolkata again). Problem is not that. Simply typing out a location name doesn't change the pointer on the map. It has to be picked up from the drop down list. Now, irrespective of where your pointer is, if you type Kolkata, like I did, for a moment the right drop down list appears and before you move your mouse, it vanishes and some other irrelevant list comes up, which makes choosing impossible. Then, if you BACKSPACE the last letter 'a' in Kolkata and retype it, behold, there's your right list! I guess there's something happening that shouldn't. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043843 Title: When a location name is typed in the text box on 'Where are you page', drop down list doesn't always show right location names To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1043843/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1043488] Re: scroll wheel does not work in VirtualBox during LiveCD session
Yes, the mouse and scroll wheel work perfectly fine during and after installation. I didn't install anything exclusively to make them work.
