[Bug 705353] Re: usb-creator doesn't accept iso file

2012-10-25 Thread Alan Morgan
I'm encountering this bug when selecting an iso for Ubuntu 12.04.1, with
usb-creator-gtk 0.2.40ubuntu1 (and -kde). I select the iso, but it
doesn't show up where it should. Other Debian-based isos do.

[Bug 705353] Re: usb-creator doesn't accept iso file

2012-10-25 Thread Alan Morgan
I have this problem with usb-creator-gtk 0.2.38 and the -kde equivalent
in 12.04 and the version that is in 12.10, when trying to add
ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso. Other Debian-based isos work, but this
does not appear.

As it is Debian-based, this might be a different issue from the others?

[Bug 1030300] [NEW] Incorrectly displays name of iPod touch

2012-07-28 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I am using Rhythmbox 2.97-1ubuntu2, in Ubuntu 12.10.

Upon starting Rhythmbox, the name of the connected iPod touch (say,
'Alan's iPod') is correctly given in the sidebar of Rhythmbox (under
'Devices'). However, upon clicking on it, the text becomes 'iPod touch'
instead.

The expected behaviour is that it stays the same when it is clicked on.

[Bug 986426] Re: Highlighting text is difficult to see

2012-04-30 Thread Alan Morgan
** Description changed:

In software-center 5.2 (12.04) with the default theme, highlighted text
is difficult to see. Sometimes I think the text becomes slightly
lighter, but other times I do not see any change at all, so I am not
sure if I imagined it. This is opposed to being surrounded by orange and
the text becoming white as expected by the default theme.

- Try to highlight something, then right-click, select Copy and then
- pasting elsewhere shows that something was highlighted.
+ Try to highlight something in the Ubuntu Software Centre, then right-
+ click, select Copy and then pasting elsewhere shows that something was
+ highlighted.

This made copying (for example a URL) very difficult.

I think this is different from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/929974
as that seems to be about an earlier version not having copying or
highlighting functionality at all.

[Bug 986426] Re: Highlighting text is difficult to see

2012-04-30 Thread Alan Morgan
I am attaching an image, although I don't think it's very useful for
this type of bug. manipulate devices is meant to be highlighted in the
image. The slight grey change might not be visible in the screenshot.

It is best to try to replicate it.
1. Open the Software Centre.
2. Select an application.
3. Try to highlight part of description of the application (not the name of it,
but the description).
4. Observe the lack of the usual orange highlighting, and a very slight grey
change instead.
5. Right click and select Copy, then paste elsewhere to show that it actually
was highlighted.

I should clarify that by description, I mean the longer section of
text and not the summary that is directly under the application/package
name. That summary is highlighted as expected.

[Bug 978626] [NEW] HUD and Dash don't open when global menu is active, but flash on and off when menu is closed

2012-04-11 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I am using a fully updated 12.04 with unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2.

Most of the time when a global menu is being used (as in an item has
been clicked on to reveal the options below it), pressing the Alt or
Super keys do not open the HUD or dash. But when the menu is closed, the
hud or dash will flash on for split second and then close again. It is
expected that they will open even when a global menu is active.

This is not seen with a local menu, such as with LibreOffice's default.

I have observed a different behaviour that occurs in a minority of cases
when opening the HUD with a global menu active, if you get that bug
instead. It's the HUD opening below the menu and not accepting input.

[Bug 978630] [NEW] HUD not available for input when global menu is open

2012-04-11 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I am using a fully updated 12.04, with unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2.

When a global menu is active (such as if Tools was clicked on the items
below it are visible), pressing the Alt key occasionally* activates the
HUD below the open menu, and it is not able to be typed in. Despite the
flashing vertical line showing the HUD is ready for text input, typing
does not work and clicking on the HUD to make it active for input makes
the HUD disappear instead of switching to it as expected.

It works as expected with a local menu, such as with LibreOffice's
default.

The behaviour I expect upon pressing Alt when a global menu is open is
the HUD opening over the top of the menu, or closing the menu.

The expected behaviour when there is a flashing vertical line in a text
input field is that text will be put there. If a field is not active, it
should not have that marker.

And for the HUD to be switched to when clicked on if it happened to be
below another item.

I have provided a screenshot.

*Every other time, an alternate bug occurs.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/978626 But this bug
often occurs on the first attempt, or at least often enough to happen
within a minute or two of repeating the opening a global menu and
pressing Alt.

the HUD disappear instead of switching to it as expected.

*Every other time, an alternate bug occurs.
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/978626 But this bug
occurs often enough to happen within a minute or two of repeating the
opening a global menu and pressing Alt.

** Description changed:

I am using a fully updated 12.04, with unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2.

When a global menu is active (such as if Tools was clicked on the items
below it are visible), pressing the Alt key occasionally* activates the
HUD below the open menu, and it is not able to be typed in. Despite the
flashing vertical line showing the HUD is ready for text input, typing
does not work and clicking on the HUD to make it active for input makes
the HUD disappear instead of switching to it as expected.

It works as expected with a local menu, such as with LibreOffice's

[Bug 977945] [NEW] Dash and Totem full screen causes unresponsive mouse

2012-04-10 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

If Totem is in full screen mode, pressing the super key results in the
dash appearing, but the launcher, dash and indicators do not respond to
the mouse input. Hovering and clicking causes no reaction, although the
cursor can be freely moved around.

It also occurs when the dash is open and the full screen mode in Totem
is activated through the quick list.

[Bug 977984] [NEW] Quicklists and launcher labels occasionally too translucent

2012-04-10 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

Normally, quicklists and the labels of launcher icons that appear when
hovering over the icons are dark. However, they are occasionally
rendered as shown in my attached screenshot. This has happened five
times in under two hours of heavy quicklist use. It is not visually
appealing and loses clarity due to there possibly being text below.

[Bug 977115] [NEW] Long names truncated in dash where they aren't in Unity 3D

2012-04-09 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I have a 1366 x 768 screen, with default text size and am using unity-2d
5.8.0-0ubuntu1 and unity 5.8.0-0ubuntu2.

In Unity 2D, the labels under icons in the dash are shortened if they
are over a certain length. These same labels are not shortened in Unity
3D. One example of this is Empathy Internet Messaging.

It is expected to not be shortened in Unity 2D.

[Bug 977134] [NEW] Nothing is typed in HUD if dash was open

2012-04-09 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

If you press Alt while the dash is open, the dash disappears and the HUD
appears, complete with the flashing vertical line suggesting you can
type there and a request to Type your command. However, writing does
not appear in the HUD if the dash was opened when Alt was pressed, even
if you click on it to try to make that text field active. The text will
appear in an active text field if one is available elsewhere instead.

To replicate:
1) Press the Super Key.
2) Press the Alt Key.
3) Type (sometimes you might need to click on the text entry field first).

The expected behaviour when using the HUD when the dash is open is for
the HUD to search things within the dash such as switching lenses and
filters.

And at any time, the expected behaviour when a text input box has that
flashing vertical line marker is visible is that text will be input at
that place.

When I left-click the battery indicator in an up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04,
it only briefly opens the power menu. The menu closes immediately after
the left mouse button is no longer pressed. This is not the case with
any of the other indicators. It is expected to behave the same as every
other indicator

[Bug 958865] [NEW] Red-green colour blindness and the corner/edge selector

2012-03-18 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

This is about the use of red and green when editing which edges and
corners the cursor goes to in order to activate a feature. This is a
problem for people with red-green colour blindness, as they will have
difficulty seeing which corners and edges are set to do what.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blindness#Red.E2.80.93green_color_blindness

I suggest using different colours, or icons, with a key as to what they
mean.

[Bug 945414] Re: Can drag a minimized window to another workspace

This also affects me. In case the initial description isn't 100% clear,
the dragging of where the minimised window was previously must be done
from the Workspace Switcher view of the multiple desktops (at least for
me).

[Bug 945438] [NEW] launcher incorrectly marks application as being on another workspace

2012-03-02 Thread Alan Morgan
Public bug reported:

I am using beta 1 of Ubuntu 12.04, with version 5.4.0-0ubuntu2 of Unity.

The triangles to the left of launcher icons are meant to show if an
application is on the current workspace or a different workspace: it is
filled in if it is on the current workspace, or only a white outline of
a triangle if the application is open on a different workspace.

It sometimes shows up as only the outline when the application is open on the
current workspace.
