[Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic
If the driver says 'Option "PanelGeometry" is not used' it means that the hardware is not Geode GX but a Geode LX. Geode LX has no "PanelGeometry" Option, it uses a "PanelMode" Option which has to be filled with the ModeLine specified earlier. This at least applies to an Hercules eCafe EC-800 which I had to setup today. In this case the panel is only 800x480 and the Xserver stretches the output to 800x600 without manual fix. I attach my working xorg.conf, it sets up an 800x480 display, the commented out parts contain lines which should work for 1200x600. I'm using Karmic (xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.11.6-1). [Bug 75295] Re: system freeze while accessing DVD drive
I just want to add here that I could solve this problem on my TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SN-S082D (in my transtec LEVIO 210M) by crossflashing it with the SC04 firmware as mentioned above and also at http://kde.blogsite.org/?q=node/11. I used a FreeDos image on a CF card sitting in an USB reader to do the task. The solution at http://kde.blogsite.org/?q=node/11 uses firmware version SC03, I tried SC04 and it works too. [Bug 203452] [NEW] small typo preventing gnome-power-manager to be updated
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support A small typo in /usr/share/acpi-support/FUJITSU SIEMENS.config prevents gnome-power-manager to be updated to 2.22.0-0ubuntu1, obviously its postinstall script runs into this typo. Maybe because I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook (but not that which is mentioned in the line with the error, I have a FSC Lifebook P7120). Fix is attached (use only on ")" in case statement). [Bug 107945] Re: Security update of libx11-6 causes IDL segfault
I think it is better to just extract the libX11.so.6.2.0 file from the Debian package http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/03/09/debian/pool/main/libx/libx11/libx11-6_1.0.3-6_i386.deb mentioned inthe ITT Tech Tip #4177 and add a LD_LIBRARY_PATH modification pointing to that file for IDL only. That way you don't cpmpromise your remaining system with that downgraded library. Get root permissions if necessary and create a directory /usr/local/rsi/lib. (adopt to other path if your IDL installation differs). First extract only the library from the downloaded deb file. Do this in a convenient way with midnight commander (mc). Inside mc just hit Enter on the deb file and then examine its content interactively, go to CONTENTS/usr/lib and copy (via F5) libX11.so.6.2.0 to /usr/local/rsi/lib/. Then outside of mc create the following symlink cd /usr/local/rsi/lib ln -sf libX11.so.6.2.0 libX11.so.6 Now modify the IDL start script /usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/idl (near line 280) in the following way: Inside the "linux" section of the architecture dependent "case" statement add LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$INSTALL_DIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH somewhere before the "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH" statement. Or just use the attached patch. I did not know how to re-open the 33030 bug, which has been marked as "Fix released" which isn't correct, cause the fix doesn't work anymore > > ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 33030 >No SATA support for VIA VT8251 (e.g. on ASUS A8V MX) > -- Fix for #33030 (VIA VT8251 SATA) needs update https://launchpad.net/bugs/50876 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50876] Fix for #33030 (VIA VT8251 SATA) needs update
Public bug reported: The fix for bug 33030 (no SATA support for VIA VT8251), see https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/33030 needs to be redone. Reason: the old fix (use the VIA AHCI patch) doesn't work in the final dapper kernel. Solution: remove the old patch, use the VIA SATA patch. I have attached patches with the solution to bug 33030. [Bug 33030] Re: No SATA support for VIA VT8251 (e.g. on ASUS A8V MX)
the last two patches fix (hopefully) the broken VIA VT8251 SATA support. Generally the ahci method should work with a 2.6.15 kernel, but it fails for the dapper kernel, so use sata_via.c instead. I have no experience with the stability rigth now, I'm using two SATA disks in a md1 software RAID. No problems so far, after a few hours. Source of the patches as already mention above: http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=71754&enterthread=y I hope this can make it into the stable dapper kernel, even three weeks after release :-) Albrecht -- No SATA support for VIA VT8251 (e.g. on ASUS A8V MX) https://launchpad.net/bugs/33030 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 33030] Re: No SATA support for VIA VT8251 (e.g. on ASUS A8V MX)
It seems that the VIA VT8251 is now better supported through the sata_via patch (AHCI patch fails with current ubuntu kernels, probably due to libata backports, see my messages above). I already had added a VT8251 enabled sata_via.c to my kernel, now I just removed the ahci.ko kernel module, rebuilt my initrd -- now it works. I cannot say anything about stability, we'll see. Currently I'm recompiling my kernel with a "remove-the-via-ahci/add-the- via-sata-code"-patch. I'll post it here after I have switched to this new kernel. Meanwhile I tried to use the vt8251 patch for kernel 2.6.16, but it also doesn't work. Until now I had no time to check the 2.6.17 version of the patch. It would help to know from where the libata backport in the 20 or 21 release came, 2.6.16 or 2.6.17 (if the problem is related to that at all).
