[Bug 1393212] [NEW] xfce4-appfinder doesn't handle escaping in desktop file

2014-11-16 Thread Aleks Krsch
Public bug reported:

Example of an error message:
Working directory /home/krsch/hdd/games/The\sLast\sFedaration/game does not
exist. It won't be used when spawning
/home/krsch/hdd/games/The\sLast\sFedaration/game/LastFederationLinux.x86_64.xfce4-appfinder:
 failed to execute: Failed to execute child process
/home/krsch/hdd/games/The\sLast\sFedaration/game/LastFederationLinux.x86_64
(No such file or directory)

File /home/krsch/hdd/games/The Last
Fedaration/game/LastFederationLinux.x86_64 does exist and is
executable.

As mentioned in http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-
spec/latest/ar01s03.html , escape sequence \s should be treated as a
space in string fields. Unfortunately. xfce4-appfinder ignores this
rule.

I use Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and xfce4-appfinder 4.10.1-1

The desktop file that triggered the above error is:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=The Last Fedaration
Comment=The Last Fedaration (GOG.com)
Icon=/home/krsch/hdd/games/The\sLast\sFedaration/support/gog-the-last-fedaration.png
Exec=/home/krsch/hdd/games/The\sLast\sFedaration/game/LastFederationLinux.x86_64

Another way to reproduce:
1) Start playing some music.
2) Connect USB HDD.
3) Wait for KDE to ask you to select action.
4) Music stops with error like:
aplay: pcm_write:1710: write error: Input/output error
5) dmesg shows:
...

6) dmesg | grep WARN shows nothing this time

I'd like to acquire more data on this problem, but I don't know how.

1. Start some application, that uses alsa, like jackd.
2. Start skype. Settings doesn't matter. Login is not required.
3. Application from step 1 hangs.
4. dmesg prints cannot submit urb 0, error -90: internal error

[Bug 1169677] [NEW] bzip2recover (v.1.0.6) creates wrong headers (of rec* files)

2013-04-16 Thread Aleks-ger
Public bug reported:

I found a bug in bzip2recover 1.0.6.

Assume you have a huge (2 GB) perfect myfile.bz2.
Using bzip2recover myfile.bz2 gives rec1myfile.bz2 (and more files
rec*.bz2).
The fourth Header Byte is always wrong, see below!
It seems to have low effect, but confused me understandig the file-format,
while writing a tool for 'healing' bad downloaded huge bz2-files.
The 4th byte in header wrong, for sure.

WHAT I MADE:
$ head -c 8 myfile.bz2
BZh11AY
$ file myfile.bz2
myfile.bz2: bzip2 compressed data, block size = 100k
$ file rec1myfile.bz2
rec1rec1saarpart.bz2: bzip2 compressed data, block size = 900k
$ head -c 8 rec1myfile.bz2
BZh91AY
$ bunzip2 rec1myfile.bz2 ; ls -l rec1myfile
-rw--- 1 me None 99938 15. Apr 19:00 rec1myfile

This is close to 100,000 Byte, which is idicated by block size = 100k.
It would be right to use the original Header, not constant BZh9.
Please comment on that.

MY SYSTEM:
$ bzip2recover --version
bzip2recover 1.0.6: extracts blocks from damaged .bz2 files.
$ bzip2 -V
bzip2, a block-sorting file compressor.  Version 1.0.6, 6-Sept-2010.
$ cat /proc/version

(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53 UTC 2013

also checked on Cygwin, same result
$ cat /proc/version
CYGWIN_NT-6.1-WOW64 version 1.7.17(0.262/5/3)

Actually it's another issue,
I have dual boot win7 and ubuntu, Lenovo laptop. I have to boot into win and
then turn on the wireless with the lenovo redycomm software. Then I reboot
into ubuntu and wireless works fine. So I guess it's actually a windows
problem :)
thanks

 Try these (in any order, but try them all):
 1. sudo apt-get clean
 2. Download again from
 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/b/bcmwl/
 3. Check you disk space with 'df -h'.

[Bug 578944] Re: Hyper-v Screen Drawing is Slow

2010-05-12 Thread Aleks Rudzitis
Okay, so it appears the source of this is the vga16fb and vgastate
modules, which are loaded by default in Ubuntu, not playing well with
the hyper-v frame buffer.

[Bug 578944] [NEW] Hyper-v Screen Drawing is Slow

2010-05-11 Thread Aleks Rudzitis
Public bug reported:

When installing Ubuntu 10.04 in Hyper-V, the text drawing speed (sorry,
I don't know the proper name for it), is incredibly slow. I imagine this
has something to do with how the linux kernel interacts with the
framebuffer provided by Hyper-V. It can take something like 2 to fill an
entire screen with text.

Installing integration components makes no difference (since this is a
text-only server install anyway).

This bug DOES NOT exist in the mainline kernel.

[Bug 281760] [NEW] full disk encryption on external usb is impossible

2008-10-11 Thread Aleks
Public bug reported:

I tried to install ubuntu 8.04.1 32bit with full disk encryption to a
usb external disk following the exact same procedure that I followed
when I made the installation to my internal disk.

Unfortunately, though no error messages are shown, just after ubuntu
initial screen is shown I just see the following:

“Busybox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5 5ubuntu 12) Built-in Shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built in commands

(initramfs)”

minus the quotes of course :)

I also don’t get any password promt.

I made the installation thrice with the same cd that I used for
installing ubuntu on my laptop (so it’s not a cd problem). I also tried
to install with the 64bit version as well as to a usb stick.

In the 64bit case the error screen was a little different but similar (I
don't remember the exact text).

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thank you :)

[Bug 230056] [NEW] Lock screen happens on Lid open, not Lid closed

2008-05-13 Thread Aleks Krsch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager

I have hp nx7400 notebook with Kubuntu 8.04 installed.
kde-guidance-powermanager is configured to Lock screen When Laptop Lid
Closed. But the screen is locked a few seconds after I open the lid.
Further investigation showed, that it's all because
PowerManage.getLidClosedState() returns 1 if lid is pen and 0 if it's closed.
But in guidance-power-manager it's assumed, that 1 means that lid is closed.
After I edited guidance-power-manager.py in this way:
722:# Lid stuff
if self.powermanager.hasLid:
if not self.powermanager.getLidClosedState():
if self.powermanager.lidClosedState:
self.powermanager.lidClosedState = False

action = self._getRB(self.LaptopLidRadios, self.lid_act)
if not self.act_name.has_key(action):
action = self.act_name[self.lid_act_def]

if self.act_call[action] != None:
note = i18n(Laptop lid is closed, %1
now.).arg(self.act_notify[action])
self.notify(note, self.act_icon[action])
QTimer.singleShot(2000, self.act_call[action])
else:
self.powermanager.lidClosedState = True

everything begam to work perfectly. I don't know if this problem applies only
for my laptop or not.
Version of kde-guidance-powermanager is 0.8.0svn20080103-0ubuntu16
I already deleted the original file so I can't make a patch now
The edited version of guidance-power-manager.py is also attached
