same problem for me upgrading to Maverick from 10.04, after that to solve this
issue I've tried to make a clean installation but the modprobe: Fatal...
error remain anyway every time I boot.
Another new release bug is in the Gnome-panel, often disappearing.

HOW COULD CANONICAL DELIVER SUCH A BUGGY OFFICIAL RELEASE?

2010-10-12 Thread Alessandro Isaia

Imagine if this error was committed at Microsoft corp., there would
happen a platetarian scandal in the ICT environment and all the
technical guru would speak about that for years, if it does not happen
to Canonical, is just because is still a common opinion that Ubuntu is
not an operating system suitable for production environments, and
therefore no one is really surprised.

[Bug 362910] [NEW] gdm abort while removing the prev vv

2009-04-17 Thread Alessandro Isaia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Operating System: UBUNTU Jaunty, rel. 9.04
Using package: GDM, Installed release: 2.20.10-0ubuntu2
kernel: 2.6.28-11-generic
Gnome: 2.26.1

What I expected to happen:

using the gdm setup ( sudo gdmsetup ), I was changing the active gdm
theme with the brand new one I've just installed, but after the chabnge
I wanted to completely remove the old gdm-theme, using the button
Remove at the right side of the installed theme list, placed in the
local menu tab.

What happened instead:

(I've tried this command sequence a lot of time, so now I'm sure this is a
bug!):
every time you remove the previuos activated theme used by gdm (the remove
option become active just after the change of the active selected theme), the
application aborted, closing itself automatically.

This bug do not happen if I remove other gdm themes installed, this bug
happen only if I remove the previous active theme, the one in use until
that moment.

In attachment: the log file of the errors described.

[Bug 318238] [NEW] gdmflexiserver crash using Gimp 2.6 in xnest modality

2009-01-17 Thread Alessandro Isaia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi, when I need to make some root task, I'm used to run the xnest windowed
style using the command:
gdmflexiserver --xnest and then log-in as the root user.
The bug I found out is: all the times I launch the shell gdmflexiserver
--xnest and then I login in there as the root superuser, if I start Gimp
2.6 inside that shall, and I try to maximize the Gimp interface, the program
crashes and the main windows close itself without any expected reason.
The problem persist every time I redo that process in the same order:
1) launch: gdmflexiserver --xnest and login as root
2) launch Gimp 2.6
3) maximize the main Gimp interface
4) the Xnest shell Crashes!

My System Config:
OS: Ubuntu 8.10
CPU: Intel Core 2 duo - E 4500 @ 2.20 Ghz
Kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic
Gnome: 2.24.1
RAM: 3,0 GB

[Bug 310326] [NEW] usb external HDD not mounted by Intrepid

2008-12-21 Thread Alessandro Isaia
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid (3 months ago) I became not able
to automatically mount my external HDD usb 2.0 drive, a 80 GB COMPASS
HDD one.

In the last 3 mont I've updated my kernel 5 times: from 2.6.27-7 to
2.6.27-11 but every time I ddiidn't solved my issue.

But something different start from my last kernel update, Infact now
when I link my external HDD with the usb cable to the PC usb port, the
HDD still remain not automatically mounted but checking with the gnome-
system-monitor in the active tasks tabbed menu I can see a process in
sleeping state, named usb-storage...

If anyone could help me in solving this issue...I could be saved from
switching to windows for making backup my data into the external drive.

Best regards

Alessandro

[Bug 290732] [NEW] gdm do not play any accessibility sounds

2008-10-29 Thread Alessandro Isaia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

In the tab accessibility of the application gdmsetup (gdmsetup is
what I have to write on the terminal to display the application I'm
talking about), it is possible to configure the greeter to play some
custom sounds, related to some tipical event, such as access
successfully or login window ready and Access failed.

Starting from my new Intrepid update, I can play any kind of sound and
video using Rhythmbox, VLC, SMplayer and so on,... but...no sound plays
from the gdmsetup: from that package it's impossible for me to configure
and execute any sounds.

The GDMsetup has a sound-preview-mode, that, when pressed, do not play
any sound (I tried with different file format), but if I try to play the
same sound from outside the GDMsetup, using Rhythmbox for istance, I can
perfectly play that sound.

this is my PC config:
OS: Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid)
Kernel: 2.6.27-7-generic
Gnome 2.24.1
RAM: 1000 MiB
Processor 0: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20Ghz
Processor 1: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20Ghz
GPU: Nvidia 9500 GT
Total free HD space: 170 Gib
Dual Boot PC:
/dev/sda (250 GiB) ext3
/dev/sdb (250 GiB) ntfs

Best regards

[Bug 140822] Re: [Hardy] gnome-display-properties cannot be launched

2008-05-14 Thread Alessandro Isaia
I've got the same problem. Just upgraded to Hardy from Gutsy, chipset
nvidia geforce 4 and I can't fix the correct video resolution:

when I fix manually the correct video resolution (anyway a message
appear every time saying: The X Server does not support the XRandR
extension , after every boot, the system come back into the wrong
resolution, discarding the correct setting I manually did before.

any suggestion?
