[Bug 1730198] [NEW] Extensions are not shown in the "Extensions → Shell Extensions" section

2017-11-05 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu/GNOME Software provides a way to install extensions without the
need to access the extensions.gnome.org website.

While extensions are shown in Software with a simple search by "name"
(try typing "pomodoro" or "weather"), them are not shown inside the
"Extensions → Shell Extensions" section.

[Bug 1720648] [NEW] Apturl not working out of the box in Firefox on Ubuntu 17.10 Artful

2017-10-01 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Public bug reported:

Installed yesterday Ubuntu 17.10 Artful, now up to date.
It seems that AptUrl is not working out-of-the-box in Firefox, even if apturl
is pre-installed.

= How to reproduce =
 1. with Firefox, open this wiki page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TheGIMP
 2. click on the "gimp" link in the "Standard" chapter, which should start the
procedure to install gimp.

Expected: a window opens telling you if you want to install the "gimp" package.
What happen: Firefox tells you that the url can not be interpreted.

Hope you can fix this problem

[Bug 1646025] Re: libreoffice 5.1.6 for xenial

2016-12-12 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Please consider this request to pull the latest LO 5.1 images inside the xenial
repositories. Among the other problems, LO 5.1.6 fixes several crashes which
make really difficult to work with Writer in Xenial. For a LTS I "want" the
latest and more stable version of LO 5.1 to be available for everyone.
I don't want to add a PPA if I can get this new LO version through a simple
software update.

I know the latest updates of the 5.2 family are already available with
snap packages, but LO 5.1 is preinstalled in the system, then it's the
priority choice for the majority of users.

[Bug 1629600] Re: Installed application from .deb does not appear unless Ubuntu is restarted

2016-10-05 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Problem verified with Google Chrome on Yakkety.
 * install google-chrome-stable package with g-s;
 * close and restart g-s, notice that Google Chrome is not listed under
"installed" apps nor searchable inside g-s;
 * $ pkill gnome-software;
 * start again g-s, now Google Chrome is listed in g-s.

However there is one omore problem: I can launch Google Chrome from g-s,
but I can't remove it. "Remove" button in g-s does nothing.

[Bug 1626667] Re: Can't upload files using webapp-container

2016-09-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Thanks Olivier for your time and patience, I really appreciate.

Just installed the gallery-app package, but it isn't listed as content provider
in the webapp-container nor in other webapps (g+, facebookmessenger...).
An image picker could be enought for a wiki webapp (essentially the majority of
files uploaded in the italian wiki by users are images). If I need different
types of files, I'll look to the ubuntu-filemanager-app, however first I need
that webapp-container can see these apps.

Any idea on how to archieve this?
If ther's some kind of documentation I can read, please send me links.

[Bug 1626667] Re: Can't upload files using webapp-container

2016-09-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Installed the package 'qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-content1' and its
dependencies.

Now, when I try to upload files, webapps open the page:
"Choose from" (or something similar, I'm translating from italian) with the
indication that "no apps are installed which can provide this kind of content".

Running webapp-contanier with terminal, I still get the output:
"file:///usr/share/webbrowser-app/Downloader.qml:22:1: module
"Ubuntu.DownloadManager" is not installed"

I think I'm missing again some package, any idea?
Thanks

[Bug 1616979] Re: No snaps appearing in g-s in Y

2016-09-21 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Same problem on Ubuntu 16.04 updated today.

 - `snap find telegram' works
 - `gnome-software --search telegram' shows no results

It's the same for all the snap packages.

[Bug 1616364] [NEW] DRI_PRIME GPU offloading not working on AMD APU + AMD GPU laptop with ubuntu 16.04

2016-08-24 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Public bug reported:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial
Kernel: 4.4
Fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 Point Release

##Hardware:
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics] (rev 45) → AMD APU A4-7210 with R3 integrated
graphics "MULLINS"
01:00.0 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT
[Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M / R5 M330] (rev ff) → AMD R5 M330 dedicated GPU
"HAINAN"

##What works:
As system boots, only R3 integrated graphics is used by Ubuntu (as it should,
all ok):
 *  glxinfo | grep render
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD MULLINS (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
 * lspci | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Mullins [Radeon R3 Graphics] (rev 45)
 * sudo lshw -c display
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller

ioport:3000(size=256) memory:f110-f113 memory:f0d0-f0d1

##What doesn't work
With DRI_PRIME=1, I should be able to launch applications with the dedicated
GPU (R5 M330). However, every time I try, the OS hangs and returns to the
lightdm login screen.

This is what I did:
1. xrandr --listproviders
 Providers: number : 3
Provider 0: id: 0x73 cap: 0x9, Source Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 2 outputs: 2
associated
 providers: 2 name:MULLINS @ pci::00:01.0
Provider 1: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0 outputs: 0
associated
 providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0
Provider 2: id: 0x3f cap: 0x6, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 0 outputs: 0
associated
 providers: 2 name:HAINAN @ pci::01:00.0
2. xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink 0x3f 0x73
3. sudo apt install mesa-utils
4. DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears
5. then, the system hangs with a black screen and returns to the login screen

I've tried with DRI_PRIME=1 supertuxkart/redeclipse/other 3D
applications, but the result is always the same.

I've also tried to install a different DE with different compositing
window managers: XFCE+xfwm and XFCE+compton. However, if I try to use
DRI_PRIME=1 the result is always the same.

No problems when using DRI_PRIME=0 (mullins integrated graphics),
therefore the initial configuration should be ok.

It seems not related to compiz, but to something regarding the graphics
stack (radeon? mesa?)

As of now, I can't use my dedicated GPU.

[Bug 1606238] Re: gnome-software won't open

2016-08-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Same problem with Xubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, fully updated (gnome-software
3.20.1+git20160617.1.0440874.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu1~16.04.1).

Launching gnome-software with terminal does nothing.

Removing the ~/.local/share/gnome-software/ worked as workaround.

2016-08-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Similar problem in Ubuntu 16.04.1 (Unity), with AMD APU (AMD A4-7210 APU
with AMD Radeon R3 Graphics "MULLINS") + AMD GPU (AMD Radeon R5 M330) on
a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ACL.

Everytime I launch a 3D game application with DRI_PRIME=1, the system
hangs and returns to the lightdm login screen.

I also tried to use a xubuntu session (installing xubuntu-core package)
with xfwm or compton, but the problem persists.

[Bug 1567845] Re: Cannot mark reviews as useful or not in Software

2016-04-08 Thread Alessandro Viprati
** Description changed:

- package: gnome-software 3.20.1~git20160331.78d1aab-0ubuntu2
-
Many applications in Software have reviews written by users. In Ubuntu
Software Center users were able to mark reviews as useful (or not) by selecting
the correct choice in "Was this review useful to you?" under every review.
Now this is not working anymore.
First of all, no indications are given if people considered a review useful
or not (see PNG attached, it's the same comment for Inkscape in USC and
Software).
Every time I choose "Yes" or "No" under a review, the question disappears.
Closing and launching again Software, the question is again here but without
indications of how many people found it useful.

   = How to reproduce =
   * launch Software
   * select an app with some reviews, then click "Yes" under a review
   * login with SSO
   * then notice that the text "Was this review useful to you?" disappears
   * close and launch again Software
   * select again the same app, then notice the text "Was this review useful to
you?" is back

   = Expected result =
- * If a review has been evaluated by some users, you should read the text "5
of 6 people found this review useful" or similar.
- * Click "Yes" → should appear the text "you and 3 more people found this
review useful" or similar.
- * Click "No" → should appear the text " you found this review not helpful"
or similar.
+  * If a review has been evaluated by some users, you should read the text "5
of 6 people found this review useful" or similar.
+  * Click "Yes" → should appear the text "you and 3 more people found this
review useful" or similar.
+  * Click "No" → should appear the text " you found this review not helpful"
or similar.

I tried today, just updated Ubuntu 16.04, to install Chrome: everything
worked well and I didn't find the "could not find any google-chrome-

But, I was thinking to upload the screenshot of my google-chrome installation

Can you confirm that both buttons don't work?

Now webapps allow copy/paste, I don't know which bug-report/patch is

updated.

Copy/paste also works on FacebookMessenger and YouTube webapps.

[Bug 1426489] Re: fglrx-core 2:14.501-0ubuntu1: fglrx-core kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘__get_cpu_var’ ]

2015-04-30 Thread Alessandro Viprati
@ROCHE read this comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1276379/comments/41
(and sorry for my poor english, I can't edit that comment and correct my
errors).

However, it's the same for 15.04: you cannot install fglrx drivers because AMD
dropped support for the Radeon HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx cards.
If you want to use proprietary drivers, they work only on Ubuntu 12.04.1
(kernel linux 3.2), but with an old version (Catalyst 13.1).

If you want to use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or 15.04, you have to use the open Radeon
drivers (preinstalled in Ubuntu).
Hope to help.

[Bug 1276379] Re: fglrx-installer 2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.1 fails with some legacy devices (Radeon HD 2000 3000 4000)

2015-03-28 Thread Alessandro Viprati
As described from many users before, the first Catalyst driver available
inside the Ubuntu restricted repository was this one [1]. This driver
supports all Ati Radeon HD graphic cards (I don't know if it supports
most recent HD 7xxx or 8xxx series, but this isn't the problem). Users
were able to install fglrx driver for HD 2xxx, 3 and 4xxx graphic
cards without problems.

Since Point Releases [2] were released, new kernel and Xorg stacks were used.
The old fglrx driver can't support new kernel and xorg, so upgrade the fglrx
driver to a newer version is a *must*.
Canonical can't just push new HWE stacks without providing support for new
graphic cards through fglrx drivers.

Due to this, updated fglrx drivers published inside the Ubuntu repos broke the
systems with old HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx cards.
AMD dropped the Radeon HD 2xxx, 3 and 4xxx support.

For Ati Radeon HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xx users, you have different
solutions:

 - install Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with new open source
Radeon [3] drivers (pre-installed in Ubuntu), which have a better power
management support, better heat control and general better stability and
functionalities. Don't install fglrx drivers if you use these
distributions.

 - install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, install updates and don't install a new
HWE stack. Then install fglrx 13.1 from AMD website [4]. This is the
last fglrx version which supports Radeon HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx graphic
cards and can be used only with the Ubuntu 12.04 original stack.

 - install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and install old fglrx drivers inside the
repository *fglrx=2:8.960-0ubuntu1*. Remember to not update this driver
through system updates.

 - a combination of the solutions presented before (HWE stack downgrade
and blablabla - non the best solution ever - )

Consider that recent open Radeon drivers works really better that 2
years ago, so try them.

= Related to this bug =

Ubuntu 12.04: consider to make available the fglrx 13.1 driver inside
12.04 repos, only installable on Ubuntu 12.04.1 original kernel and xorg
stack. Alternatively, prevent the update from 8.960 version to actual
13.350 fglrx driver (or future versions) for HD 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx
users.

Ubuntu 14.04: this bug can't be solved, AMD dropped support for these
graphics cards and the old driver can't work with new kernels and xorg
stacks. Use open Radeon driver and don't try to install fglrx drivers.

[Bug 1186381] Re: Can not paste into web forms

2015-02-09 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Ubuntu 14.04 is still affected by this bug. Can't copy/paste text between
webapps and regular apps.
Please, consider to fix this bug at least in Ubuntu 14.04, it's an LTS release
after all.

Webapps are really fast and useful but we can't use them without
copy/paste support.
