[Bug 1839708] Re: KPDL error 98 in Chromium

2024-05-13 Thread Alex Cherepanov
This was posted as a Ghostscript bug but Ghostscript is not involved in
this case.

The printer just cannot handle the PS stream generated by Chromium. The printer
admits that the file is correct but it exceeds some implementation limits.
Debugging this case takes multiple attempts to
reduce the file to an acceptable form. Do you still use the printer?

This was true long ago, but for 10+ years Ghostscript copies PDF
documents from stdin to a temporary file that allows direct access.
Please fix the man page.

[Bug 1818593] Re: PS data generated on Ubuntu 16.04 is larger than on Ubuntu 14.04

2021-06-07 Thread Alex Cherepanov
This is not a bug. The variation in the output size depends on the
-dCompressPages flag.

Versions 9.01 .. 9.14 have it on by default for smaller output files.
Versions 9.15 .. 9.54.0 have it off by default for higher compatibility with
buggy PS interpreters.

[Bug 1456668] Re: evince cannot display one of my postscript files

2021-06-02 Thread Alex Cherepanov
The problem seems to be caused by evince that uses DSC processing on a
non-DSC-conforming file.
Removal of all DSC comments makes evince display the last page of the file
only. This indicates that evince cannot handle non-conforming files at all.

Perhaps evince can convert all PostScript files to PDF and avoid the
reliance on DSC parsing.

[Bug 276358] Re: printing of some PDFs fails

2008-12-20 Thread Alex Cherepanov
Most likely this is a bug in the printer firmware rather than Ghostscript.
VMerror means that the printer run out of memory during rendering of
the image.

The PS file generated by pdf2ps is standard. It can be processed by Distiller
and
Ghostscript itself. You can try to install more memory in your printer or try to
figure out why the image of a moderate size causes memory overflow.

[Bug 34229] Re: Creating readable pdf

2008-12-20 Thread Alex Cherepanov
The file job_198-untitled_document.pdf was generated by AFPL Ghostscript 8.53.
At that time Ghostscript didn't
generate ToUnicode CMap table that helps to extract text from the file. Current
version of Ghostscript (8.63) generates
the required table. Please retest using the current versions.

Old PDF files can be post-processed using the current version of Ghostscript to
add the ToUnicode table.

[Bug 98526] Re: Rendering of eps figure generated with Matlab

2008-12-20 Thread Alex Cherepanov
The EPS file is not compatible with forced interpolation. Not every image can
be interpolated.
For instance, when the chessboard is drawn as a 8x8 image the interpolation is
likely to produce undesired results.

I think the puck is back on the Evince side.

The EPS file also uses a transfer function in an objectionable way, but this
doesn't change the main problem.
Image interpolation is not always desirable.

Yes, the new version uses. GPL Ghostscript 8.61, an official but still quite
old version.
Current development version converts this file just fine.
