[Bug 1270079] Re: [Lenovo T540p, W540] Backlight interfaces not fully working
From BIOS AML, the brightness function (ex. _BCM) checks a table before making actual brightness adjustment. The table is located in DSDT and attached below: Name (BRTW, Package (0x12) { 0x64, 0x64, 0x01, 0x03, 0x05, 0x08, 0x0C, 0x11, 0x16, 0x21, 0x28, 0x2E, 0x36, 0x3E, 0x47, 0x50, 0x5A, 0x64 }) This looks like a BIOS design. We need a BIOS update to remove the comparison to the table. Kernel cannot work around this bug at all except removing the uses of ACPI backlight control. [Bug 1264071] Re: [Dell Inspiron 2350] Multiple HIGH / CRITICAL failures found in fwts report
This bug must be fixed in BIOS; however, _PLD 6.1.8 _PLD (Physical Device Location) This optional object is a method that conveys to OSPM a general description of the physical location of a device’s external connection point. The _PLD may be child object for any ACPI Namespace object the system wants to describe. This information can be used by system software to describe to the user which specific connector or device input mechanism may be used for a given task or may need user intervention for correct operation. For example, the _PLD for usb ports (as in this case) are defined their color, side and so on (please refer to ACPI spec for details). These information are not used in Ubuntu to my knowledge. I think they can be safely ignored. ** Changed in: linux-lts-raring (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1264071 Title: [Dell Inspiron 2350] Multiple HIGH / CRITICAL failures found in fwts report To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1264071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1264071] Re: [Dell Inspiron 2350] Multiple HIGH / CRITICAL failures found in fwts report
_PLD in DSDT is declared as below: Method (_PLD, 0, Serialized) { Name (PLDP, Package (0x01) { Buffer (0x10) { /* */0x81, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0008 */0x30, 0x1C, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 } }) CreateBitField (DerefOf (Index (PLDP, Zero)), 0x40, VIS) If (LNot (And (PR2S (0x0D), PR2))) { And (VIS, Zero, VIS) } Return (PLDP) } The problem occurs @ CreateBitField (DerefOf (Index (PLDP, Zero)), 0x40, VIS). In ACPI Spec, Index is defined as below: Syntax Index (Source, Index, Destination) = ObjectReference Arguments Source is evaluated to a buffer, string, or package data type. Index is evaluated to an integer. The reference to the nth object (where n = Index) within Source is optionally stored as a reference into Destination. An integer is 64bit long and its bit index is from 0 to 63; however, the above statement tries to reference to bit 64 and therefore it out of range. If bit 64 in PLDP is needed, it must be referenced correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1264071 Title: [Dell Inspiron 2350] Multiple HIGH / CRITICAL failures found in fwts report To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1264071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We'd like to keep this HIGH as we want to ODM to fix it during development cycle as much as possible, but this does not hurt any functions. ** Changed in: linux-lts-raring (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1252154 Title: [Dell Inspiron 3135] Multiple CRITICAL/HIGH failures in fwts report To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1252154/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1252154] Re: [Dell Inspiron 3135] Multiple CRITICAL/HIGH failures in fwts report
The critical errors from the method test is caused by acpica. Quoted from cking's email: The core issue is that a traversal of an region linked list is looping forever in ACPICA causing it not to return and making some fwts method tests to fail on some platforms. I can reproduce the bug in acpiexec, so the bug is not a fwts bug, but an underlying ACPICA interpreter bug. I've given it a few hours of debugging and reverting back to ancient versions of ACPICA and I can't see why the list is getting corrupted, so I'm now deferring it to Intel. ** Bug watch added: bugs.acpica.org/ #1062 https://bugs.acpica.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1062 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1252154 Title: [Dell Inspiron 3135] Multiple CRITICAL/HIGH failures in fwts report To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1252154/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1251570] Re: [Dell Inspiron 3137] WARNING message in klog (reported as HIGH failure in fwts)
DMAR DMA Remapping Reporting is ACPI table defined in Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O which says The system BIOS is responsible for detecting the remapping hardware functions in the platform and for locating the memory-mapped remapping hardware registers in the host system address space. It is clearly that this system reports the base address is zero which is invalid. In fact, it claims the base address starts from 0 and it will conflicts with other hardware. It is my guess that BIOS set base address to zero as this is a celeron cpu which does not support this advance. This is not a correct way to do it. BIOS should not report DMAR in ACPI at all. Fortunately, it is detected by kernel and DMAR is not used. ** Changed in: linux-lts-raring (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251570 Title: [Dell Inspiron 3137] WARNING message in klog (reported as HIGH failure in fwts) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1251570/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1143312] Re: HP ENVY 4 Sleekbook - Errors detected when running FWTS sleep tests
Finally upstream has a patch! This shall be included in kernel 3.11. It may be a good idea to SRU it after a while when nobody in upstream complains about it. commit 2fa97feb4406c546b52e35b6b6c50cb8f63425d2 Author: Lan Tianyu tianyu@intel.com Date: Wed Jun 5 02:27:50 2013 + ACPI: Add CMOS RTC Operation Region handler support On HP Folio 13-2000, the BIOS defines a CMOS RTC Operation Region and the EC's _REG methord accesses that region. Thus an appropriate address space handler must be registered for that region before the EC driver is loaded. Introduce a mechanism for adding CMOS RTC address space handlers. Register an ACPI scan handler for CMOS RTC devices such that, when a device of that kind is detected during an ACPI namespace scan, a common CMOS RTC operation region address space handler will be installed for it. [Bug 1132649] Re: display brightness is very low by default
ASUS 401A has some fundamental problems with its BIOS ASL code. First, its _BCL returns [ 344.088661] Brightness[0] = 100 [ 344.088669] Brightness[1] = 77 [ 344.088672] Brightness[2] = 60 [ 344.088675] Brightness[3] = 48 [ 344.088677] Brightness[4] = 43 [ 344.088680] Brightness[5] = 38 [ 344.088682] Brightness[6] = 33 [ 344.088684] Brightness[7] = 28 [ 344.088687] Brightness[8] = 23 [ 344.088689] Brightness[9] = 18 [ 344.088692] Brightness[10] = 10 However, _BCL should returns elements like (from B.6.2 of ACPI spec 4.0a) Method (_BCL, 0) { // List of supported brightness levels Return (Package(7){ 80, // level when machine has full power 50,// level when machine is on batteries // other supported levels: 20, 40, 60, 80, 100} } Secondly, its _BQC returns the nth level of brightness, but ACPI spec requires An Integer containing the current brightness level (must be one of the values returned from the _BCLmethod). For example, when the brightness is 10, _BQC returns 0. When the brightness is 18, it returns 1. This causes a lot of confusion to kernel who does not how to control brightness. Last, _BQC always returns 0 on boot time. However, I don't think ASUS is going to release BIOS fixes for it. Fortunately, the brightness is not too dim to be visible (not completely dark). ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132649 Title: display brightness is very low by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1132649/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1152458] Re: HP Pavilion g7 - Assorted FWTS HIGH failures during testing
Please ignore #5 to to #8 as I checked the incorrect log file. FAILED [HIGH] KlogHpwmiUnknownEventid: Test 1, HIGH Kernel message: [ 2477.032359] hp_wmi: Unknown event_id - 10 - 0x1 The above error was generated because new event id is defined by HP but is yet included in current hp_wmi driver. A patch was submitted to upstream (http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.platform.x86.devel/4276) but it yet accepted by the maintainer. However, there are no impacts but only an error message. This should not be a cert-blocker. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1152458 Title: HP Pavilion g7 - Assorted FWTS HIGH failures during testing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1152458/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Fortunately, \_SB_.WMID.ESDT is the last function in _PTS and BIOS has completed everything it tends. No or few impacts are generated by the absence of RTC CMOS handling. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1143312 Title: HP ENVY 4 Sleekbook - Errors detected when running FWTS sleep tests To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1143312/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
