Hi Chris, A quick launchpad search reveals that there are a couple of bugs open on this. You may want to comment on this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mouseemu/+bug/251830 I'm able to confirm this issue for all recent macbook and macbook pro models. Frankly, it seems to me that mouseemu should be an opt-in rather than an opt-out deal. Though the hardware detection could be amended in the installer scripts to fix this issue (not a fan of this option as I can foresee this bug resurfacing with a new revision of the hardware). Hello Alex, The bug you have referred us to has been fixed. It seems to me that the issue is specific to your setup. If you would like your bug to be resolved, please provide additional information so that the problem can be identified. It would be useful to know at which point the installation fails, what errors (if any) are printed, how you partition your drive, which boot manager you use (and anything else that you deem would *actually* be useful to fixing your problem). Please understand that it is unreasonable to expect the wiki to be amended with: this release is absolutely inappropriate for installation from LiveCD on a Macbook Pro 3,1 Santa Rosa., when you in fact seem to be the only one who has made this claim so far. [Bug 290030] Re: Do not scrobble (add to last.fm library) radio songs
In an effort to move this along, I've patched banshee myself. I've attached a screenshot of what my change looks like. I am not fully satisfied with this solution, because as it turns out the original song reporting GUI option performed two tasks: 1. It reports a song as Now Playing to last.fm 2. It scrobbles the song when the song has finished playing It's probably sensible to decouple the two to allow the user to report all songs now playing, but to scrobble only local tracks or only radio tracks or both. So I propose to change the Last.fm menu to contain the following options: Report Tracks as Now Playing Scrobble Local Tracks Scrobble Radio Tracks instead of the current Enable Song Reporting option which toggles all of the above at once. I'd like to get some input from banshee developers before I proceed with creating a patch. ** Attachment added: screenshot.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19504653/screenshot.png -- Do not scrobble (add to last.fm library) radio songs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290030 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 267497] Re: MASTER support for connection sharing missing - Was: networkmanager offers no simple function to make one computer's internet connection available to other computers, using Wi-Fi / WL
Hello Alexander, Internet Sharing cannot be currently configured without falling back to the command line in GNOME. Network Sharing can indeed be enabled with the network manager applet, but that does not set up internet sharing. The official ubuntu wiki guide currently requires command line black magic: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing There is a blueprint that requests one click internet connection sharing (just like network sharing), but it is not implemented so far: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneClickInternetSharing I've been successful in setting up network sharing in Intrepid using the network manager applet, and the two computers could see each other, however I couldn't get internet sharing to work (even using the commandline), and so I gave up and booted into OS X. In OS X, you check Internet Connection Sharing in System Preferences, and give the network a name and optionally a password. That is all that is required. [Bug 290030] Re: Do not scrobble (add to last.fm library) radio songs
Hello Andrew, I wasn't very clear. What I meant was that song reporting should only be enabled for local tracks but not tracks from the radio. Currently enabling song reporting also scrobbles the radio. This is undesired as most radio tracks (from last.fm and from internet radio stations) I do not want to be scrobbled, while I *do* want local tracks (part of *my* library) to be scrobbled. So what I propose is to have two options in Tools Last.fm: 1. Enable Local Song Reporting 2. [Bug 290030] [NEW] Do not scrobble (add to last.fm library) radio songs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee Some recommended songs from the last.fm radio are good and some are not. I do not want my last.fm library to be cluttered with songs I don't like just because I decided to listen to last.fm's recommendations. The iPhone last.fm application allows disabling of radio scrobbling (adding to library). In a similar vein banshee should offer an option to not scrobble recommended songs by last.fm. This could also apply to internet radio stations (since you probably don't want to add most songs on the radio to your library). [Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly when pressing the numlock key
The first thing I do on a keyboard with a numeric pad, is to enable the numeric functionality. I always thought that having it act as a directional pad by default is counter intuitive. I mean, I expect the fraction of people who use it as a directional pad to be very small compared to the number of people who use it as a number pad. So personally, I would prefer if the default was switched to a number pad on all keyboards (isn't that the default behaviour on OSX and Windows anyway?!) The keyboard layout for Macbook Pros and Macbook Airs can be viewed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1117 It should also be noted that KEY_FN_F* produce no keycodes (according to xev), which means that previously no secondary functionality could be defined for F4-F6. Okay, I did some more digging regarding the F4-F6 keys: turns out older macbooks had no secondary functionality for those keys, so the lookup table in drivers/hid/hid-input.c reads: static struct hidinput_key_translation apple_fn_keys[] = { { KEY_BACKSPACE, KEY_DELETE }, { KEY_F1, KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F2, KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F3, KEY_CYCLEWINDOWS, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, /* Exposé */ { KEY_F4, KEY_FN_F4, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, /* Dashboard */ { KEY_F5, KEY_FN_F5 }, { KEY_F6, KEY_FN_F6 }, { KEY_F7, KEY_BACK, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F8, KEY_PLAYPAUSE, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F9, KEY_FORWARD,APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F10, KEY_MUTE, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F11, KEY_VOLUMEDOWN, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F12, KEY_VOLUMEUP, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_UP, KEY_PAGEUP }, { KEY_DOWN, KEY_PAGEDOWN }, { KEY_LEFT, KEY_HOME }, { KEY_RIGHT,KEY_END }, { } }; Changing the F4, F5 lines to: { KEY_F5, KEY_KBDILLUMDOWN, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, { KEY_F6, KEY_KBDILLUMUP, APPLE_FLAG_FKEY }, Adds the desired functionality (that is you get key codes in xev when pressing fn+F5/F6). However, it does not affect the backlight state of my keyboard (running pommed 1.18). Key observations: KEY_FN_F* does not produce key codes in xev. KEY_KBDILLUMUP, KEY_KBDILLUMDOWN seems to be the correct setting for fn+F5, fn+F6. Looking at the source, no constant seems to have been defined for the dashboard key... APPLE_FLAG_FKEY specifies the default key state. This cannot be fixed dynamically. As it's unrelated to the fn key problem I won't add it to the above patch. However, I've included a compiled hid module for amd64, with the above changes (it also has my patch applied so the fn key will work out of the box without the dynamic quirk). I consider the fn key problem fixed. Hopefully someone with more experience than me will commit this patch to the source so that it makes it into the next update cycle ;) ** Attachment added: hid.tar.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14649798/hid.tar.gz -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just realized my notation might be a bit confusing. Paco, Could you please attach the Info.plist file located on your OS X partition: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext/Contents/Info.plist Also execute the following command in Ubuntu at the shell: lsusb -v lsusb.txt And attach the resulting lsusb.txt file. -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207127] Re: fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4, 1)
I've updated the patch to include Macbook Air keyboards as per the spec in Info.plist. The dynamic fix for Macbook Air is: options usbhid quirks=0x05ac:0x0223:0x0800,0x05ac:0x0224:0x4800,0x05ac:0x0225:0x0800 Regarding the function keys, I can confirm your findings, but I believe it's an issue with pommed, and not the hid module. Perhaps it's fixed in pommed 1.17, but I've not tried compiling it. Eitan, I can't reproduce the ~ problem. Is your keyboard ISO (as specified in lsusb -v)? ** Attachment added: fix_fn_key_on_macbookpro_4_1_and_mb_air.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14613817/fix_fn_key_on_macbookpro_4_1_and_mb_air.patch -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 231920] Re: FN key does not work on macbook air
It's slightly different; 0x0223 is the device ID of Macbook Air's ANSI keyboard, so that's where it starts: options usbhid quirks=0x05ac:0x0223:0x0800,0x05ac:0x0224:0x4800,0x05ac:0x0225:0x0800 The problem with F4, F5 could be an issue with pommed, but I've not been able to confirm... I've submitted a patch that will fix fn for both macbook air and macbook pro 4.1 keyboards: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/207127 -- FN key does not work on macbook air https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207127] Re: fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4, 1)
Attached is a patch to fix the fn keys on all new Macbook Pros (v4,1). The naming scheme follows the one defined by Apple in: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBTopCase.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBTCKeyboard.kext/Contents/Info.plist The keyboard name is WellspringII, and the Device ID is 0x0230, 0x0231, 0x0232 for ANSI, ISO, JIS respectively (as defined in Info.plist, and confirmed for ANSI and ISO by me and Scott). Some debugging has been done using dynamically loaded quirks here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4984452posted=1#post4984452 This patch simply adds the findings to hid-quirks.c, so that the keyboard is recognized automatically in the future. ** Attachment added: fix_fn_key_on_macbookpro_4_1.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14595497/fix_fn_key_on_macbookpro_4_1.patch -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207127] Re: fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4, 1)
Ok I've figured it out. Working from the discussion here: http://www .mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg01343.html We need to add 3 new device IDs for the new generation macbooks (the id varies depending on whether the keyboard is ansi, iso, or jis) for the apple vendor ID, which is: #define USB_VENDOR_ID_APPLE 0x05ac. I propose to add the following to hid-quirks.c #define USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_GEYSER5_ANSI0x0230/* i'm guessing this is correct, i need you to confirm this */ #define USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_GEYSER5_ISO0x0231 #define USB_DEVICE_ID_APPLE_GEYSER5_JIS 0x0232 Corresponding entries will have to be made inside hid_blacklist[] in the same file (just a copypaste of the GEYSER4 entries). This way older Macbook models will not be affected, and the new ones will work for all those device IDs. *** What I need from you: execute lsusb -v at the shell. And report the output for the block that contains: Bus 005 Device 003: ID 05ac:0230 Apple Computer, Inc. ... bInterfaceProtocol 1 Keyboard ... Note your ID might not be 05ac:0230. I've attached the block for mine for reference. The important line here is the device ID, and country code. For me it is: bCountryCode 33 US I'm guessing Scott's line will read: bCountryCode 13 International (ISO) or something similar. Once I've confirmed the device IDs with your help, I'll try to make a patch and submit it. We should also probably submit it upstream as this is not exclusive to Ubuntu. ** Attachment added: lsusb -v output for Keyboard section http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14581184/keyboard.txt -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207127] Re: fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4, 1)
I've detailed a proper fix that doesn't require patching/kernel recompile/or the compiled module I've provided above. The fix is found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4984452posted=1#post4984452 The fix loads the usbhid module with an option that adds the new DeviceID to the quirk list dynamically. Sorry to spam this bug report. I'll move further discussion there. The patch I outlined above should still be implemented so that in future the keyboard is recognized automatically. -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For those who don't want to wait for an official patch, or compile their own kernel, I've attached the recompiled hid module for amd64 hardy with the above fix. Follow the instructions in the README and you should get a functioning fn key ;) Only tested on 15 Macbook Pro (penryn) running *64bit* Hardy. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK! If some devs who have worked with hid quircks before could chime in with suggestions as to how to add this fix to the kernel properly, I'd be willing to write and and/or test the code. ** Attachment added: Fix fn key on Macbook Pro (penryn) running *amd64* hardy http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14568310/hid.tar.gz -- fn key doesn't work in hardy with macbook pro fourth generation (4,1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77064] Re: patch allowing lrm builds against custom kernels
I've been trying to build restricted modules for a custom hardy kernel, and after a lot of pain editing rules and control stub it seemed to work. However, after I installed my custom restricted modules package nvidia drivers were still not being loaded, and I gave up. Something that would allow me to easily pull in restricted modules to a custom kernel would definitely be greatly appreciated. -- patch allowing lrm builds against custom kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
