I see that bug in 12.04 64 bits on 3 Lenovo PCs, most likely the bug is
not related to hardware.

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-02-10 Thread Alex Wolfson
I tried a solution from #107 at HP mini. On that laptop the bug was 100%
reproducible, if as a first thing after reboot you open chromium and start
typing. After implementing #107 bug did not happened, or at least it is not
100% reproducible any more.
If user checks the the disable while typing settings - he ends up with 2
instances of the syndaemon running, but touchpad still works. If you uncheck
settings, the later daemon with 0.5 sec disappears. So looks like bug might
existed for a long time, but was masked by default setting of 2.0 sec, till
debian/patches/10_smaller_syndaemon_timeout.patch were applied to the g-s-d.

According to the bug 801763 it happened on 2011-08-22: in the package
gnome-settings-daemon - 3.1.5-0ubuntu3

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-02-09 Thread Alex Wolfson
That might be related:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/801763
Typing causes cursor to stick

This bag fix introduced 0.5 sec delay in gsd instead of 2.0

* debian/patches/10_smaller_syndaemon_timeout.patch:
- Use a smaller timeout for syndaemon (LP: #801763)

Relevant upstream gnome code is located at:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/tree/plugins/mouse/gsd-mouse-manager.c#n504

I have that 2 syndaemon issue once in a while, but can not reproduce it fast.
If somebody wants to test if increasing delay fixes the bug, look at
http://ubuntuwiki.net/index.php/Touchpad,_disabling_while_typing

The modified command to execute:
syndaemon -i 2.0 -K -R

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-02-08 Thread Alex Wolfson
I found something, that might help to debug the bug. If I uncheck 'disable
touchpad while typing' as suggested in #103 and move my finger on touchpad,
while typing garbage fast, I see the cursor to do a jerk movement once in a
while instead of staying still.
It is 100% reproducible, unlike the bug, whichI have only ocasionally.
I have Lenovo T410 with Synaptic

[Bug 925119] [NEW] Source disc image does not remember the choice

2012-02-01 Thread Alex Wolfson
Public bug reported:

When Choosing Other in Source disc image (.iso) or CD, the dialog
pops up. When you choose an image it is added to the list, but is not
chosen. The old choice is still highlighted. There is a very limited
space for the image name, So it it is very easy to burn a wrong image.
It seems to be more like improvement request, but I know many people
that complained about that.

The bug did not show up.

However I recall seeying double login not related to suspend in the

proposed unity

[Bug 864784] Re: Enableing second monitor causes crash.

2012-01-17 Thread Alex Wolfson
I tried unity-4.28 from oneiric-proposed on Dell Latitude with nvidia
driver 280.13

Before update I was able to crash unity (not all the times, but easily)
I tried to crash unity 6 times after update but was not able to. I have seen a
brief display distortion after first switch and then system recovered. The rest
of the switches were without distortion.

[Bug 820833] Re: Logitech USB Headset lost dB volumes when upgrading to Oneiric

2011-08-18 Thread Alex Wolfson
I tried a patch proposed by Takashi and it fixed the problem, however
there is a post

Raymond Yau superquad.vortex2 at gmail.com
Fri Aug 19 00:55:54 CEST 2011

The patch seem fix the no dB scale problem , however the broken dB
test which you added seem redundant as cval-dBmin and cval-dBmax are
still zero because error in get_min_max() at build_feature_ctl() and
it seem that the valid dBmin and dBMax are calculated by get_min_max()
at mixer_ctl_feature_info() on my usb logitech web cam

so some more investigation might be required
