2012-10-19 Thread Alexander Gabriel
workaround:
install libsvn1 and subversion both versions 1.6.7 (ubuntu 12.04 versions)
you need libd4.8 for that
this is in conflict with some other packages but lets you push and commit.

please fix this regression bug as soon as possible. it breaks bzr-svn
functionality (no push/commit, no fun)

if someone creates a ppa with a working version for ubuntu 12.10. please
comment here and let us know!

Sadly there is not much I can do.
Here is a link to the specification of HFS+ (since this bug is marked as
incomplete).

[Bug 616700] [NEW] Rythmbox can't handle multiple genre tags

2010-08-12 Thread Alexander Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

rhythmbox:
  Installiert: 0.12.8-0ubuntu7

I expect rhythmbox to work with more than one tag of a kind which is a feature
of vorbiscomment.
example:
the tags
genre : Indie Rock
genre : Indie Pop
on one file should both be visible in the GUI
I guess the content of the tags could be displayed as a comma separated list.

Instead rhytmbox displays only one.

quickfix:
use the command xinput set-props device-id option-id 0
to set mouse events and keyboard events to false for the joystick/gamepad
the respective id can be found by running
xinput list
and
xinput list-props device-id

Please close this bugreport. The bug occurs due to some rogue version of

[Bug 569971] [NEW] setting a custom symbol map in 64 bit version produces strange results

2010-04-25 Thread Alexander Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version is 9.10
Package version is 3.4.3-10.6ubuntu2

Configuring a custom symbol map via the config file leads to unexpected results.
Tested with DUNGEONS= option. Values seem to get excepted mod 128. The effect
is that much of the ascii symbol table needed to display the dungeon can't be
reached.
Example:
| for vertical walls corresponds to code 179.
179 mod 128 equals 51.
So instead of | nethack displays 3 (which corresponds to code 51).

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2009-09-17 Thread Alexander Gabriel
psylem: that may be so. BUT This bug was filed because it's an usability
issue. That doesn't go away with nautilus-gksu. You can't expect the
user to know of the package. It's not installed by default. Let's say
you'd have to install a package to copy a file. Not a good workflow.

Now if it were installed by default...That'd be much better, but still
not optimal to me.

[Bug 402223] [NEW] Use a VPN connection and/or proxy setting automatically when connected to a certain network

2009-07-21 Thread Alexander Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi there!
This is actually a feature request.

The use case:
When I am at my university I need to use a given vpn network and proxy. I think
many people are in a similar situation where they must use a given set of
settings only when connected to a given network.

The idea:
The proxy settings allow the setup of places which are essentially a saved
proxy setting one can easily switch to. This is a great feature which could
also be implemented into Network Manager.

The proxy settings places should be extended to Network Manager and
there include vpn connections. They should be tied to a set of network
connections. So when I connect to a cetain LAN or WLAN (even
automatically) Network Manager switches to the corresponding place, so
that my vpn connection and proxy settings are enabled automatically.

The gain:
Right now when I go to my university and power up the laptop, Network Manager
automatically connects to the university's WLAN but I then have to enable the
vpn and proxy settings manually. When later connecting to my home network, I
have to change the proxy settings again. With my suggested feature that would
all happen automatically.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2009-06-08 Thread Alexander Gabriel
Another use case:
- you bought a new harddrive/usbstick
- you created partitions and formated them with ext*
- you fire up nautlius to start using them and sure enough, they appear in the
places bar.
- you click to mount them

- now you try to copy files to them

BUT

they are owned by root and you have to go to the shell to change
permissions.

a newbie and userfriendly way would be to show a sudo dialog when
changing permissions on files/folders you don't own.

[Bug 382074] Re: New hard disk drive mounted read-only by default

2009-06-06 Thread Alexander Gabriel
I can see the same behavior here.

Since you need a special permission to mount devices (you get asked for
that the first time you try to mount sth and have to give a password to
sudo or get root). These mounted devices should be mounted with
user:usergroup rights. This is also consistent with the handling of USB
mass storage devices.
