[Bug 990411] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 nouveau lockup with GTX580
Public bug reported: Discussion and workarounds here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/126193/ubuntu-12-04-stuck-at-the-login-screen specs: CPU: Intel i7 980x extreme edition, Motherboard: Asus Rampage III extreme, RAM: 6GB, GPUs: 2x NVidia GTX 580 in SLI, HDD: Western digital 1TB green power (20GB for root (/), 6GB for swap, all the rest for /home) Probably affects GTX590 too. There are two problems: 1) During installation there is freeze right after the lightdm(?) GUI starts. I see the cog/keyboard/accessibility on the top right, but cannot click them. The Try Ubuntu/Install Ubuntu window with the languages on the left never comes up, or sometimes a distorted and unusable version of it comes up. [workaround: http://askubuntu.com/a/126416/57256] 2) If you use the workaround or the alternative installer to install (or even an upgrade from a fresh 11.10), then you get a freeze right after the lightdm login screen comes up. [workaround: http://askubuntu.com/a/126336/57256] When pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1, the following message appears: [drm] nouveau :03:00.0: GPU lockup-switching to software fbcon The switch never happens though, I only had the lockup part. As outlined in the discussion, the problem is fixed with sudo-apt-get update, sudo-apt-get upgrade, and then installing the nvidia driver. I therefore assume there is something wrong in the nouveau driver. Also note that 11.10 does not have this problem. Also, this bug affects both 32-bit and 64-bit. ** Affects: libdrm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990411 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 nouveau lockup with GTX580 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/990411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 766272] [NEW] Crash on shutdown/suspend/logoff
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.04 beta 2 When I try to logoff/suspend/shutdown, the computer hangs and I have to hold the power button to make it shutdown. When it happens I can see some sort of random horizontal stripe at the top of the screen and some dots in the middle of the screen alternating colors (the dots are like when Ubuntu is loading). This ONLY happens on my Laptop + Asus eee PC. It does NOT happen on any of my desktops. Also, in all my computers I have upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10, which by the way did not have this bug. [Bug 580735] Re: Clock Applet crashes for no reason
I have another crash currently and the clock shows another part of the gnome panel instead of the time. Specifically it shows the date Sun Jun 13, but truncated because the clock is smaller so it only shows Jun 13, and a couple of dots on each side. (see attachment) I installed debug symbols and tried to do a backtrace, but as i understand it, i have to start gnome-panel with gdb. Since the crash occurs randomly and usually when i am logging in to the system, i don't understand how i am supposed to do that. Also, because the crash occurs randomly i can't Perform any actions necessary to reproduce the crash. Do i have to always start gnome-panel with gdb on start-up and keep logging off and on until the crash happens? Another thing i noticed: The above behaviour occurs only on my box which was upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. All other installations i made (5-6) don't have this problem. ** Attachment added: Screenshot of a crashed clock applet http://launchpadlibrarian.net/5026/Screenshot.png -- Clock Applet crashes for no reason https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580735 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
