[Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow

2021-09-07 Thread Alexander Karlstad
I see that impish got 1.20.13 of xserver-xorg-core recently. Is it fixed
there?

[Bug 1938096] Re: [Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th] [SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57] touchpad lagging after resume from suspend

2021-08-10 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Tested the kernel provided now and it seems to still act the same.
Attaching GIF with output of the `watch -n0 cat /proc/interrupts`
command.

I also tried switching the sleep mode back to the default (S0ix)
yesterday and this seems to work a lot better with 5.13 kernels than the
5.11 one and preserves battery very well now. I had it set back to
"Linux S3" again for this kernel test though.

`uname -a` output: Linux lomez 5.13.0-2010-oem #11 SMP Tue Aug 10

[Bug 1938096] Re: [Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th] [SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57] touchpad lagging after resume from suspend

2021-08-09 Thread Alexander Karlstad

"i2c_designware" or "SYNA8009:00" number is increasing without touching
the touchpad?

Tried this now, and yes, both of these ("idma64.0, i2c_designware.0" and
"SYNA8009:00") are increasing while not using the touchpad at all after
resuming from suspend. Right after a reboot these values remain stable
and do not increase while not using it.

Awesome!

I only gave the modern standby/sleep a couple of chances in the
beginning, and at that point the laptop battery was drained by the next
morning if I closed the lid on it after work (around 5-6 pm the evening
before). Bear in mind that that was with the stock kernel that came with
Pop 21.04, which is 5.11.0. I can give it a try again now that I am
running 5.13.9, if a lot has changed regarding that since then.

[Bug 1938096] Re: [Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th] [SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57] touchpad lagging after resume from suspend

2021-08-03 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Further investigation reveals that this only occurs when S3 suspend is
enabled in BiOS. The default that is shipped is identified as s2idle in
systemd (just called "Windows 10 and Linux" in BiOS[1]) and is a sort of
software suspend that does not preserve much battery time (which is also
why I switched to S3). S3 is suspend to RAM I think.

I have upgraded to a new BiOS release that was made available today
(N32ET68W 1.44), and an update to the Embed Controller. This did not
help with the issue unfortunately.

Seeing as the touchpad works fine with the software suspend, but not the
S3 RAM suspend, is there perhaps some module that is not handled
correctly when waking up from a more thorough suspend?

I am currently using the 5.13.5 kernel from the Ubuntu kernel team here:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

I have also tested the 5.14.0rc2 kernel from the same repo. Can give rc3
a try too.

[Bug 1938096] xdpyinfo.txt

2021-07-26 Thread Alexander Karlstad
apport information

** Attachment added: "xdpyinfo.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938096/+attachment/5513886/+files/xdpyinfo.txt

** Description changed:

Hardware: Thinkpad X1 Carbon, 9th generation
  Touchpad: SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57

Right after a clean reboot, the touchpad works fine. No issues
whatsoever. But after resuming from even its first suspend after a clean
boot, the touchpad feels less responsive, choppy or even laggy.

I have tried removing and re-inserting some HID kernel modules,
"psmouse", and setting i915.psr_enabled=0 in kernelstubs. Haven't found
anything that fixes it yet. The trackpoint works flawlessly all the
time, so that is the current backup when I don't have an external mouse
  connected.

My installed OS is Pop!_Os 21.04, but I have tested and confirmed this
on a live USB with Ubuntu 21.04 as well.

I have also tried upgrading to the latest 5.13.5 and 5.14.0rc2 kernels
from the mainline PPA, and tried bumping the libinput10 to 1.18.0 from
  the impish repos.

  To recreate:
  1. Reboot a X1C9 machine and see that the touchpad works fine
  2. Suspend it (to RAM, need to change a BiOS setting so it doesn't do a
software suspend)
  3. Resume from suspend and see that touchpad acts differently and less
responsive than right after a clean boot

  What is expected:
  1. Same responsive touchpad experience after resuming from suspend as right
after a clean boot.

[Bug 1552040] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor

2018-11-23 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Tried the first workaround, the X.org conf.d snippet, and this has
helped a great deal. Although, sometimes the lock screen acts up and
shows my windows, toolbars and is weirdly unresponsive after resuming
from suspend. I suppose that could be a different bug, perhaps with
Gnome or Gnome Shell?

[Bug 1552040] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor

2018-11-19 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Strange though, I did not have this problem at all in 18.04. Only
occurred now after upgrading to 18.10. What changed? The kernel patch
linked to is from 2016, and a lot of the other bug reports are older as
well. Is it a regression of a sort?

I have a Thinkpad X270 (latest BiOS - 1.33) and this is driving me nuts.
Luckily I came across this bug report so I'll at least have a couple of
workarounds to try out :)

Keeps happening, but it does appear to be docking station related. After
getting some more errors today I got to Google and find that #1552040
might be the bug causing this with me. So perhaps a duplicate of that.

[Bug 1802578] [NEW] [drm:intel_display_resume [i915]] *ERROR* Restoring old state failed with -22

2018-11-09 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Public bug reported:

This error appears in my journal quite often after resuming laptop from
suspend and when un-docking the machine in the meantime.

When docked, I usually only enable two external displays. Un-docked I
only have the built-in display on the laptop. This was working
flawlessly in 18.04 but is extremely buggy now after having upgraded to
18.10 for some reason.

When this happens, my screen(s) remain pitch black. Switching to TTYs
and back does not help. CTRL+ALT+F1 gives me the GDM login, but when
entering password it seems it switches to TTY2 (or whatever is at
CTRL+ALT+F2), and the screen(s) remain black.

Logging in in a TTY and trying to "DISPLAY=:0.0 gnome-shell --replace"
does not help.

+P does not work (is this shortcut combination removed?).

At last when I ran "xrandr --auto" the session I had crashed and I had
to re-login, but at least this time I got my desktop.

[Bug 1788659] Re: network manager assigns ethernet default route metric of 20100

2018-10-23 Thread Alexander Karlstad
I have seen this for quite some time as well. Usually connected to both
wifi and cabled network at work (while laptop is docked), which is quite
handy for when I go to meetings and undock my laptop, but will stay
online since I am also on wifi.

After a while though, and after re-docking the laptop, the metric for
the connections change and the wifi takes priority (eth0 gets 20100
metric, wifi stays on 600). I am still online though, but the wifi is
quite a bit slower at times.

Solution for now is to manually re-click my wired connection in nm-
applet, or just disable auto-connect of the wifi altogether at work.

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-09-05 Thread Alexander Karlstad
This has been happening to me lately. I am using 17.04.

I have a feeling it might be IPv6 related since we just started using
that at work, so it's only affecting me there. Usually I see the
following in my syslog:

> Sep 5 15:40:46 laptop avahi-daemon[1158]: Withdrawing address record for

[Bug 862495] Re: [Oneiric] No sound after lock screen dialog (after upgrade to PulseAudio 1.0)

2011-12-06 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Affected. Happened 10 minutes ago while my web browser was about to load
a flash based web site. This happens at least once a day with different
circumstances.

The fastest way to get back to work is to drop to the tty-shell and
restart lightdm. Restarting and/or killing pulseaudio fixes nothing.

Anyone got a good workaround / fix?

Adding last piece of syslog when this happened.

It doesn't seem to be fixed in Oneiric either. I've looked into the

submitted.

[Bug 878800] [NEW] 802.11n causes connection failures

2011-10-20 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Public bug reported:

While connected to a 802.11n network, network-manager says I am indeed
connected, but apparently I am not. Trying to ping the router, access
the internet or somehow use the network doesn't work.

Restartint the network-manager service, though, fixes it. The problem is
that I have to do this EVERY time I reboot or resume from suspend.

I found this bug report[1] at Red Hat that seems to be exactly what I'm
experiencing.

Cry.

[Bug 817833] [NEW] media keys with Spotify doesn't work

2011-07-28 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Public bug reported:

Media keys (play/pause, next, previous) doesn't work with the linux
version of Spotify, neither in Natty or Oneiric. In Oneiric, a notify
OSD appears when I press one of the keys mentioned, but nothing happens.
In Natty nothing happens at all.

Not sure if it's a Ubuntu or Spotify bug, but since Spotify is
integrated in the sound menu after installing it, I'm filing a bug here
for the moment.

My problem was also fixed when trying this RC-kernel. Though I needed to
boot the computer three times to be able to log in.

I'm on a Thinkpad T60p, running an external 23" Acer P243W monitor.
My GPU is a ATI M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200].

I haven't touched my kernel options so I'm guessing I'm running this
with KMS (radeon.modeset).

[Bug 424995] Re: System testing karmic virtual terminal doesn't work in vbox

2009-10-11 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Don't know if it's related, but when pressing CTRL+ALT+F{1..6} my screen
turns all yellow and I can't access the virtual terminal.

CTRL+ALT+F7 is the only one working.

[Bug 346083] Re: gnome-about-me misses fprintd for fingerprint authentication support

2009-09-22 Thread Alexander Karlstad
A bit frustrating that this works right out of the box with Fedora 11 on
my Thinkpad R52 that I use for testing, while it seems to be a lot of
work getting it up and running in Ubuntu (at least in Jaunty).

[Bug 272418] Re: openbox/Gnome wont launch from gdm

2009-08-13 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Seems to me that things are finally starting to work again in Karmic. I
"just" have to edit the /usr/bin/openbox-gnome-session and remove the
"--choose-session" argument.

Still, the whole damn think should work right after "apt-get install
openbox" without having to edit the script.

[Bug 281743] Re: [intrepid] vlc crashes right after start with every video

2009-07-29 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Same problem here.

Thinkpad T60p, Ubuntu 9.10, NO compiz and using the open ATI drivers.

I've tried the latest version in Ubuntu's repositories, and some PPA's
with the latest 1.0 version but still no luck.

[Bug 277391] Re: Intrepid system freeze on dell XPS 1330

2008-11-05 Thread Alexander Karlstad
I found out that it was probably the wireless network where I was at the moment
that caused my kernel to panic.
They use a sort of Apple-router with 802.11n, and as soon as I switched to
using cabled networking, my laptop stopped freezing.

2008-10-31 Thread Alexander Karlstad
This just started happening on my laptop as well. I have a Fujitsu
Siemens Celsius H250 laptop, and have been running Intrepid for a month
or so. I've updated the system, but the problem still occurs, and it
appears to be quite random.

[Bug 267963] Re: No sound Intrepid kernel 2.6.27-2 snd_hda_intel

2008-10-23 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Wops, seemed like I had downloaded, compiled and installed the latest ALSA
dev-drivers. Re-compiling these fixed my problems.
For those of you that still experience problems with your sound, take a look

[Bug 267963] Re: No sound Intrepid kernel 2.6.27-2 snd_hda_intel

2008-10-23 Thread Alexander Karlstad
Yesterday, after a new kernel update was installed or something, the
sound on my Fujitsu Celsius H250 disappeared. It seems to be a bug with
my snd-hda-intel module, cause when I try to run 'sudo modprobe snd-hda-
