I have the same bug as reported but on Fedora Core 6.

Maxima with xmaxima frontend worked properly about month or two ago but
now, after some Fedora's updates, they don't

   [root]$ maxima -s 4010
jfa: starting server on port 4010
   couldn't open socket:
   [root]$ maxima
   Maxima 5.11.0 http://maxima.sourceforge.net
Using Lisp GNU Common Lisp (GCL) GCL 2.6.7 (aka GCL)
Distributed under the GNU Public License. See the file COPYING.
Dedicated to the memory of William Schelter.
This is a development version of Maxima. The function bug_report()
   provides bug reporting information.
   (%i1) 1+1
and then it shows nothing and stays like this for a long time until I press C^C
C^D

I'm not good at Fedora Core updating features so
Is there a way to see which updates influenced maxima ? and remove them back to
old version

Fedora version: 2.6.20-1.2944.fc6

And maxima packages from Fedora Extras repository:
 maxima i386 5.11.0-8.fc6
 maxima-runtime-gcl i386 5.11.0-8.fc6
 maxima-gui i386 5.11.0-8.fc6
 wxMaxima i386 0.7.2-1.fc6
