I also wrote some instructions how to do all modifications on your own

else).

adding new locale that supports ISO date and time format.

[Bug 442498] Re: openldap install bare bones need default DIT separate package

2010-10-22 Thread Alfas
After every new release of ubuntu (the last I am trying now is 10.10) I
try openldap. Unfortunately every time I end up with the same result. It
does not work. I type in dpkg-reconfigure slapd and the result is the
same as mentioned at the top of this bug report - no password asked
configuration exits after first few questions. The only solution I found
so far is to switch to http://directory.apache.org/

[Bug 302666] Re: Regression: scrolling in Kate 3.1.2 is very slow KDE 4.1

2009-05-10 Thread Alfas
Sorry, I forgot to come back to it after I installed KDE 4.2. Unfortunately id
did not got better even a little. Kate is so slow, that it is impossible to
use. I switched to nedit. It lacks a lot of functionality, Has many bugs, but
at least works.
There is another interesting things. With KDE 4.2 Dolphin and Konqueror become
very slow too when browsing local file system. Actually it forced to switch to
Gnome on one computer, I am still trying to find solution for other (always
used to give preference to KDE due to its functionality).

Is there any other information I could provide?

[Bug 294907] [NEW] QuickLauncher applet does not work

2008-11-06 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-quicklauncher-plugin

This is the only one QuickLauncher plugin I was able to find and it does
not work. After installation it does not appear in the list of the
Widgets and I can not find a way to add it.

I am using KDE 4.1, Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit.

[Bug 294911] [NEW] Adept does not search

2008-11-06 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept-manager

When I try to search for 'rar' or 'iso' it does nothing. It simply
ignores all attempts to search. It may be that it looks for the length
of string to be more that some number, but I would find it hard to
believe. How would you make rar longer? raarrr? I doubt it makes any
sense.

[Bug 285050] Re: Improvements to search in Adept3

2008-11-06 Thread Alfas
The way I see it version 3.0 is huge step back. A lot of useful functionality
gone, only bugs added. Probably the only feature that I do not miss is the
usage of tags - never found them being useful.
All other stuff just disappoints:

1) Search is limited to 4 symbols, if you are going to introduce such feature
have it disabled by default, and switch to turn it on well hidden
2) The search return unpredicted result, I can find these packages with
apt-get, but they are not listed in adept manager
3) Packages are not listed
4) There is no list of all packages
5) There is no way to see complete description of package for some packages
6) During some operations you can see 'Fail' statement, but passes so fast and
latter on, no way to see what was wrong.
7) There is no way to have more than one filter.

I really can continue this list for very long. My suggestion is take a
previous version of Adept and put as many things back as you can. BTW
layout before was better too. It was ugly but better.

I am thinking about installing synaptic, I do not want to, but have no
other idea how to manage packages, unless go to command line tools
completely.

[Bug 294416] [NEW] system tray does not redraw background in kde 4.1

2008-11-05 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

System tray does not redraw background:

1) for tray icons it is some type of garbage, the background can be
parts of other icons or some other type of garbage. I think this is
mainly happening only for transparent part of the icon.

2) the background for whole system tray is black ignoring all system
settings (I have not found separate settings to set colour of system
tray).

I am using KDE 4.1, Ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 293888] [NEW] Child window becomes transparent even if main window has focus

2008-11-04 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde4

I have application that has few widows (NetBeans). While I am working in
main window child window becomes transparent. It is very annoying
because I need it visible (I have javadoc in it, so I do not need to
click it, I just need it to be visible).

I am using KDE 4.1, Ubuntu 8.10. I have turned off all translucency, that I
could find. I do not need this feature at all. I would remove from my computer
at all if I only could.
Is there any fix for it?

[Bug 231799] Re: System halts on hipernate

2008-08-28 Thread Alfas
Is there a way to install only kernel using apt?

Maybe there is a repository that I can add to my list of repositories
and then select to install kernel 2.6.26?

Currently I am using 2.6.24. However, it seems that stable version is
2.6.26. And then if the bug still exist upgrade it too 2.6.27.

[Bug 252472] Re: Java Web start does not work on Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit (Firefox and Konqueror)

2008-07-28 Thread Alfas
I am using openJDK. Sun does not support 64 bit, there are no even executables
for javaws. So, clearly I am using openJDK. I mentioned sun JDK, only because
it is also installed on the system. Just in case if there can be any conflicts
for example while installing openJDK it does not install properly and uses
parts from Sun JDK (however, this is very unlikely). I installed first Sun JDK,
but because it was not supporting javaws I installed openJDK. Otherwise Sun JDK
has nothing to do with it.
Now all pats seems to point to openJDK. Any suggestions how to make openJDK
work properly?

[Bug 252472] [NEW] Java Web start does not work on Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit (Firefox and Konqueror)

2008-07-27 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

I was not able to use simple examples from java.sun.com. Latter on I tried few
other examples, all failed. This is the same with Firefox 3.0.1 and Konqueror.
Starting from command line javaws brings certificate windows. I have no clue
what to do with this.
I was able to open one sample application when starting
javaws -nosecurity -about
Two of the samples opened jDiskReport and jPathReport. Other trow an exception.

[Bug 173966] Re: java plugin not working in firefox 3 on ubuntu 8.04

I tried installing icedtea-gcjwebpluign with Adept Manager from menu :).
When I select icedtea-gcjwebpluign and click install it shows in red BREAK

wrong.
Can you give me any instructions how to get more detailed information about the
error? Maybe some command line options?

[Bug 238771] [NEW] apt crashes after incomplete install

2008-06-10 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

I was installing sun-java6 (several packages), when I did not noticed one
license agreement and pressed next. After this I got error message and
adept-manager crashed. I restarted it, then it reported that there was error
and give me option to auto correct it. I pressed yes and it crashed again (it
was crashing every time). So, I run from shell apt. It suggested running:

Now package manager works, but reports an error every time I try to install

[Bug 231803] [NEW] Dual monitor does not work

2008-05-18 Thread Alfas
Public bug reported:

If you are using windows it is very simple - you just select to use second
monitor as an extension to your main monitor. Very simple very useful. I
checked everything I could find, but there is nothing similar (even close to
it). There are some descriptions how to do this, however every one of them
writes different way.
I spoke with several colleagues who are using or tried to use dual monitors
with KDE and all come to the same conclusion. For most of them it resulted in
switching back to windows (I am doing it now too :(, but I hope that there is
fix for this problem). Just add one this functionality to configuration of
desktop.
