After re-installing my laptop, this problem is back. This time it happens after every reboot. I now have auto login enabled, and am booting directly into the default Ubuntu desktop environment every time, so the problem can't be caused by loading another desktop environment such as Unity. This appears to only happen if Firefox and Thunderbird are set to use the "System theme - auto" theme. I think I've figured out why this is happening. If I restart directly into Ubuntu, then it works correctly and the setting is remembered. However, if I restart into Unity, then back into Ubuntu, the setting is forgotten. [Bug 1945741] [NEW] Can't view attachment after attaching

In Thunderbird 78, you could double click on an attachment you've just
attached when composing an email. This was very useful, so that you
could double check that you attached the correct file. In Thunderbird
91, this doesn't seem to work. When you double click on the attachment,
nothing happens.

[Bug 1945592] [NEW] Viewing PDF doesn't use full screen width
Public bug reported:
In Thunderbird 91, clicking on a .pdf attachment to an email loads the
PDF file in a new tab, which is good. However, the view of the PDF file
only uses about 2/3rds of the screen width, and leaves a large empty
grey area on the right hand side of the screen. Zooming in on the
document only zooms within the existing area, and does not expand to the
grey area.

If you enable the "Edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialog
window" setting in the preferences, then there doesn't seem to be any

[Bug 1945587] [NEW] Double click on calendar item views rather than edits

Not sure if this is a bug, or new intended behaviour. In Thunderbird 78,
double clicking on a calendar item showed its edit dialog. In
Thunderbird 91, double clicking on a calendar item shows a summary
dialog, and you then have to click on the edit button to edit it. Since
you almost always want to edit rather than view, this is less
convenient. If this is an intended behaviour, it would be good to have a
configuration setting to disable it, and go directly to the edit dialog.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 21.10 and Thunderbird
1:78.13.0+build1-0ubuntu2, creating, updating, or deleting events in
Google Calendar often produces a MODIFICATION_FAILED error, but succeeds
anyway. The events are shown in the Google Calendar web interface, and
exiting and restarting Thunderbird shows them locally.
This problem seems to only happen if Thunderbird has been running for a
while (overnight, for example). It never seems to happen immediately
after restarting Thunderbird. Perhaps Thunderbird's connection to Google
is getting stuck after a while? I am using hotel internet access, which
is not always the most reliable or consistent, and I have noticed this
problem on two different hotel networks in the last few days.
This problem did not happen on Ubuntu 21.04 and whatever version of
Thunderbird it uses.

Olivier, since I wrote comment #26, I actually got it working and since then it seems to be reliable. What I did was: 1. Stopped Thunderbird, which had been running in safe mode. 2. sudo apt remove thunderbird-locale* 3. sudo apt install thunderbird-locale-en-gb 4. Start Thunderbird normally. Unfortunately running "find ~/.thunderbird -name
langpack*@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi -exec rm {} \;" didn't fix it for
me. From before running that command, I had just the en-GB language
pack:

I logged out, and logged in again using regular Ubuntu, and the same happens. When I switch the headphones on, the Bluetooth settings show the headphones connected for a second or so, then disconnected. [Bug 1877829] [NEW] Won't reconnect to shared headphones
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 19.04, I could use my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones with both my laptop running Ubuntu, and my Android smartphone. The headphones would pair with both, and I could simply re-enable the connection in Ubuntu or Android to connect to the headphones if the other device had been using the headphones last. In Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu now refuses to reconnect to the headphones if my Android phone was using the headphones last. I have to manually unpair the headphones and re-pair them again. This is very inconvenient. [Bug 1876851] [NEW] Wifi password window hidden behind other windows
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 19.10 and earlier, the pop-up window asking for the password when connecting to a wifi network always popped up in the foreground. Now on Ubuntu 20.04, it remains hidden behind other windows. When running multiple virtual screens it can be quite hard to find. Indeed, it's not even clear that the wifi connection needs a password. It just seems that the machine is unable to connect to the wifi network. 20.04 should behave like previous versions, and always pop up the wifi password in the middle of the current virtual desktop, on top of other windows. The desktop environment I'm using is Unity. I'm not sure whether this makes a difference. My apologies if I've files this bug against the wrong package. Feel free to re-assign it if I have. I see. I think you need to explain this change to users within Firefox itself. Once 20.04 becomes stable, I think you're going to have a lot more people viewing this as a bug and complaining. You probably also want to make Thunderbird consistent. [Bug 1857457] [NEW] Setting time automatically from the internet setting keeps getting lost
Public bug reported: I go into the time and date settings, and set the time to be automatically set from the internet. Then the next time time I go into the time and date settings, this setting has reverted to manual. I've set it to automatic many times, and the setting keeps getting lost. [Bug 1854753] Re: Unity menus aren't initially populated
That's interesting. It sounds like there's a race condition that's affecting us differently. In my case, the submenus definitely aren't being populated, even if I hover the mouse pointer over the parent menu item for 30 seconds.
