[Bug 1865323] Re: Switch User+DPMS then click Unlock causes a delay with black screen

2020-05-13 Thread Aloys
I have also the NVidia drivers installed (default 440) and I also suffer from
up to minutes of waiting when switching users, which is a feature I rely on
quite a bit with the kids needing the family computer while home schooled...
For me the mouse cursor is always there and not laggy though, but just a big
black screen as soon as I click on the switch icon.

[Bug 1300393] Re: Connected external monitor causes very high cpu usage by compiz

2015-03-22 Thread Aloys
Also happening here using latest nvidia drivers (331.113), CPU usage of
compiz climbs when using the TV out on my GeForce GTS 250. I've been
using this setup for years and this high CPU usage making the whole
Unity almost unusable is very recent, a few weeks at most.

Running sudo perf top -p $COMPIZ_PID:

Single monitor: (compiz cpu% in top is around 2-3%)

  21.40% [kernel][k] _nv013274rm
   4.07% [kernel][k] rm_check_pci_config_space
   1.26% libc-2.19.so[.] _int_malloc
   0.85% libc-2.19.so[.] _int_free
   0.68% libc-2.19.so[.] malloc

   0.52% libopengl.so[.] _ZN15PrivateGLScreen17paintOut

Second monitor turned on in display settings (compiz jumps to 18%):

  13.20% [kernel][k] _nv013274rm
   3.80% [kernel][k] rm_check_pci_config_space
   1.44% libc-2.19.so[.] _int_malloc

Cheers,

[Bug 1049579] Re: P55A-UD3P, Realtek ALC889, Pulseaudio fails to detect card after Last Software Update

2012-10-11 Thread Aloys
Hi Joseph,

Thanks, so I tried 3.2.0.32.35 (from precise-proposed) and the mainline
linux-image-3.2.31-030231. Both seem to work fine with my audio.
Seems that it was fixed pretty quickly then!

Cheers,

Aloys

[Bug 1049579] Re: P55A-UD3P, Realtek ALC889, Pulseaudio fails to detect card after Last Software Update

2012-09-12 Thread Aloys
Hi,

Booting with the previous kernel brings audio back...
Non working kernel: 3.2.0.31
Working kernel: 3.2.0.30
Is it a kernel bug then?

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

Same problem here on 11.04.
Just copying gigs of data on a pristine 2TB USB harddrive causes mount.ntfs to
spike and mouse to freeze!

[Bug 633120] [NEW] Grub Menu not displaying on LVM+RAID with separate boot partition on raid

2010-09-08 Thread Aloys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

After upgrading from Lucid Lynx to Maverick beta, my system didn't boot anymore.
I spent the last few days learning grub2, and I can boot my system now, as long
as I type the following incantation in the grub shell...
So instead of showing me the boot menu, I only get the grub console (not the
rescue one, the normal one, with no error shown whatsoever).
I have tried to fix my system for a few days now, and I believe I'm facing a
bug in Grub2, as I really should see the Grub Menu now.

I know my setup is a bit strange, but it worked fine on 9:10 and 10:04.
I actually don't know if my upgrade from 9:10 to 10:04 pushed grub2 onto
my system, and my guess is that it didn't, as I would probably have
noticed.

I have 4 drives on software RAID 10 for most of the space, except for the root
and boot partitions, both on RAID 1.
My root and boot are on separate partitions, as this was needed when I set up
my system.
I only have Ubuntu on my system, no dual-boot.

So it seems that Grub2 is not finding my grub.cfg file, which is
correctly sitting in /boot/grub/grub.cfg and which looks OK, I
regenerated it a few times already. I will attach it to the bug as well.

I also get warnings on boot: kernel-provided name 'dm-0' and NAME=
'mapper/vg_boot-boot' disagree, please use SYMLINK+= or change the
kernel to provide the proper name. I assume I'll be able to fix those by
using the UUID of the disks in the boot command.

Here the commands I have to type in order to boot:

linux /vmlinuz-2.6.35-20-generic root=/dev/mapper/vg_sys-lv_root
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.35-20-generic
boot

Notice I don't need to run "set root=X", the root is already correctly
set!

>From the booted system, I can do everything normally though.

I have try all combinations of
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
sudo grub-install /dev/sdc

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/sda
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/sdc

sudo update-grub

to no avail...

Hopefully not too many people will be affected by this, and I could hold
on grub1, but I prefer pushing for Grub2 to be totally functional.

Thank you!

Aloys
