[Bug 871808] Re: Asus N55SF/N75SF - External subwoofer not working

2014-01-14 Thread Amir Eldor
(in reponse t o#76)

Raymond, the subwoofer signal is not a different output-bus on this
laptop, it's something built into the sound card. There's no need to
'jack detect'. I have this laptop and applied the fix mentioned above.
Still, my mixer only shows a stereo output (and the subwoofer works).

The hardware is connected via a proietary jack, not a 1/8 or RCA jack.

What I believe the problem is, is that ALSA does not assign the right
model according to the firmware ID on this laptop, or some other
mumbo-jumbo that I am not familiar with.

[Bug 991492] Re: Precise Pangolin Fails to Suspend

2014-01-14 Thread Amir Eldor
Hello again,

Though I still got the laptop, I no longer use Ubuntu 12.04 on it and
thus I cannot further test the issue. Furthermore, this laptop is my
main workstation, so I cannot reinstall 12.04 for testing.

I have recently installed Xubuntu 13.10 and did not experience the
issue, though if it still happens on laptop models with the iwlwifi
module on an LTS release, then everyone should be a sad panda.

[Bug 871808] Re: Asus N55SF/N75SF - External subwoofer not working

2013-05-16 Thread Amir Eldor
I have an ASUS N55SF and I've just tried comment #34 and the subwoofer
works! This is under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

My Alsa Info:

It's worth mentioning I have JACK installed as I played around with my
E-MU 0404 USB and it also works (but this is off-topic).

There seems to be no more crazy heat coming out of the air vents and by running

2012-04-30 Thread Amir Eldor
I got an ASUS N55SF with a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 installation, and it fails
to suspend. It hangs on a black terminal screen with some text on it
(from the initialization of the system if I got it right, System V
stopped stuff is the btotom line).

I don't know if it's a regression for me as it's a new laptop, but I'm
installing 12.04 on my older HP laptop which had a 11.10 installation
and suspend worked there.

[Bug 640609] Re: desktop background has wrong size when zoomed with laptop and external monitor attached

2011-01-13 Thread Amir Eldor
I opened system preferences monitor, which showed a little note
that it will open the nvidia-settings instead of the regular gnome
monitor dialog. I then followed your idea but a bit differently as it
did not work first. I marked the laptop screen as the primary monitor
and now the backgrounds do not overlap. I saved the changes to
xorg.conf.

However, when I logged out and the login screen appeared, the little box
where you enter your password was not centered on the big monitor but
instead centered at the top-left region of the screen, as if it was
centered around 1280x800 resolution and not the 1650x960 resolution.

I fixed this again after editing the xorg.conf file and settings the DFP
resolution to 1650x960 and now the backgrounds do not overlap, the login
screen's box is centered, and when the external monitor is not attached
the laptop monitor is working correctly.

[Bug 640609] Re: desktop background has wrong size when zoomed with laptop and external monitor attached

2010-10-13 Thread Amir Eldor
I meant 1680x1050 resolution instead of 1680x960 but that doesn't matter
much.

Anyway, I changed my nvidia-settings generated xorg.conf a bit (attaching).
The idea is that instead of having the metamodes option to be: DFP resolution
set to 1280x800 and CRT resolution set to 1680x1050, I set them both to
1680x1050.

I guess that what happens now is that the DFP resolution for the laptop
screen is invalid and thus the laptop screen is blackened, but the
attached monitor shows the picture at the specified 1680x1050
resolution. But one I disconnect the monitor and restart the X server
(by logging out) it defaults back to the 1280x800 resolution and shows a
picture on the laptop monitor.

In all of the above situations the background appears just fine with the
'zoom' option.

[Bug 640609] Re: desktop background has wrong size when zoomed with laptop and external monitor attached

2010-10-11 Thread Amir Eldor
Well, maybe it's not fixed.
It seems to be a problem related to my nVidia graphics card.

I used the nvidia-settings application to setup the dual view option.
When I first had the attached monitor unconfigured - the GDM login
screen was only on the laptop display, then I logged in, attached the
monitor, ran nvidia-settings, setup twin view, and it worked fine.

But once I ran `gksu nvidia-settings` aWhen I dind saved the twin view
settings to my X configuration file, after logging out the GDM login
screen showed the bug and the bug also appeared after logging in.

[Bug 640609] [NEW] desktop background has wrong size when zoomed with laptop and external monitor attached

2010-09-16 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 through the upgrade
option on the update manager.
I have a laptop with a resolution of 1280x800 attached to a monitor of 1680x960
resolution. I have an nVidia graphics card configured to use twinview with both
monitors on the same origin.

The background image with the 'zoom' style, makes the size of the
background have a wrong size, as if two background layers are placed on
top of each other, one with size 1280x800 and the other with size
1680x960.

The screenshot shows what's going on.

What's supposed to happen? Show only one image on the background whose
size is 1680x960.

[Bug 235854] [NEW] Ubuntu-IL domains need redirection

2008-05-29 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'm the Israeli LoCo Contact. Our main site is http://ubuntu-il.com

The bug is that not all Ubuntu Israel domains forward to the main
domain, for example:

ubuntu.co.il
ubuntu.org.il
etc...

Thanks,
Amir Eldor

[Bug 223063] [NEW] alternate installer failed because of a defect cd-rom drive

2008-04-27 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

Tried to install ubuntu with the alternate cd on an old computer (hardy
heron).

The cd-rom does not function very well because it even had problems
burning the iso on a cd. I had to burn it low-speed instead of automatic
speed so this is why I suspect the cd-rom.

What happened:
The installation was flawless until the Select and install software phase was
hung at 6%. After about 30 minutes it showed a red error message. I tried the
same phase again and it passed 6% only to get hung again but this time on 85%
for about 30 minutes. As I write this report I try the same phase again and
will report if it passed 85% and installed eventually.

What I would like to happen:
Instead of showing an error message, and then restart the whole 'Select and
install software' phase, it should have retried installing the same package
again at lower cd-reading speed or after letting the cd-rom cool up a few
seconds. It would have saved me a few hours of my life :)

The computer is something like CPU: 500MHz and MEM: 256MB

Hello Richard, and thanks for the bug report!

As you mentioned the problem occuring on a development version of
Feisty, I have to ask whether the problem still occurs when installing a
fresh copy of Feitsy (or Gutsy) on the same machine.

Can you provide these details, so in case the problem is not fixed (i.e.
the manual fix you've found is *not* needed after installing the new
OS), we can tag it so the development team could have a look on this
bug with the upcoming Gutsy?

[Bug 131234] missing word in emacs built-in tutorial

2007-08-09 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

(GNU Emacs is as old as me so I hope I'm not saying something stupid)

I've been reading the built-in tutorial (C-h t) and found a small
'mistake'...

In the BUFFERS sections when they teach you how to switch buffers:
(error): Then type C-b TUTORIAL Return to come back to this tutorial.
(better): Then type C-x b TUTORIAL Return to come back to this tutorial.
That's line 622 with the default font on the X GUI emacs window.

C-b just moves backwards one character (like the left arrow key) while
the sequence C-x b is used to choose a different buffer.

steps I do to get to this line:
1) install emacs metapackage
2) F2, run emacs
3) C-h t
4) M-x goto-line Return 622 Return
5) being sad

[Bug 129132] Can't use Gmail SMTP on thunderbird

2007-07-29 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I've tried using my gmail account with thunderbird. It receives POP
emails, but fails to use the SMTP to send messages.

I followed ALL the online guides for setting up the SMTP information
correctly but without success. Some setups won't work at all (because of
wrong smtp configuration) while other setups report failure when
contacting/authenticating on the smtp servers.

I also asked a friend of mine who uses thunderbird+gmail (on ubuntu) for
some time and he said that his smtp has stopped working. This means that
the bug might be because of a thunderbird update which made something go
wrong, or because Google did something funny with their gmail so it
fails to work with Thunderbird on Ubuntu.

I'm using feisty.

[Bug 122218] mail notification not working with evolution after booting

2007-06-25 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mail-notification

Using fesity, i installed the mail-notification-evolution, set up a gmail
account, and then realized i should remove the gmail account and set it up for
evolution account.
So I did, and it worked.

After a few hours of work, I rebooted my computer and the mail notification
started crying because it couldn't contact evolution.
When launching evolution, contact was restored, but as soon as I closed
evolution it started complaining again. This process repeats when
opening/closing evolution.

Tried to use aptitude remove/purge on it and reinstall, but this did not
solve the problem. Also, purge did not remove my configurations (the
evolution account was still set up in mail-notification).

All of this when mail-notification plugin is activated inside evolution.
