[Bug 836480] Re: CPU fan runs very very fast ubuntu 11.10 dell xpsl702x

2012-02-17 Thread Amit Rana
Yesterday I was trying to solve some other problem, following steps
given on this page http://www.ivegotavirus.com/blog/2011/11/06/how-to-
get-optimus-working-on-ubuntu-11-10-oneiric/

Soon after step 3) sudo apt-get install bumblebee, fan started working
fine.

Is this related? Now fan works fine. I haven't finished the steps
mentioned on the page. Just installed bumblebee, now fan is working
normally.

I also keep ubuntu uptodate so not sure if that is also related. I am
using 3.0.0-16-generic x86_64

2011-09-16 Thread Amit Rana
I installed 3.0.0.11-18 and ran 'sudo modprobe -r btusb' after this (as
I could not use mouse or touch pad) I ran 'sudo pm-suspend'. It
suspended nicely and woke up nicely.

Anything else I need to test?

2011-09-16 Thread Amit Rana
I tried the test kernel that you gave. It crashed, I am attaching the
the screen dump.

I will try other test cases later. I have internal bluetooth and I use
it for mouse (touchpad doesnt work, have raised separate bug) so the
problem is if i disable bluetooth before suspend I cant use mouse. I
will find out shell command to suspend and try this.

By the way if it helps suspend/wake up works perfect with 2.6.38-11
kernel.

[Bug 841703] [NEW] system program problem detected window just never goes away.

2011-09-05 Thread Amit Rana
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 1 week back, since then i have been
taking updates almost daily. Quite recently (5 days back) after starting
the system I get 'system program problem detected' window. If I press
'cancel' a new one comes up. This goes on forever. If I press 'report
problem', a new window comes prompting for password and after that this
window comes up again. This also goes on forever.

[Bug 838614] Re: User experience issue while shutdown

2011-09-01 Thread Amit Rana
** Description changed:

- I use tomboy so when I shutdown I always get a screen saying something
- like applications are running so do you want to force shutdown (it shows
- tomboy). I get three options cancel, shutdown anyway (cant remember
- third one). If I press shutdown, system proceeds with shutdown all is
- well. Two issues:
+ I use tomboy so when I shutdown I always get a screen saying 'Following
+ applications are running' with three options. 'Lock Screen', 'Cancel',
+ 'Shutdown anyways'. I always see tomboy there as 'not responding'. So my
+ shutdown is always two step process. If I press shutdown, system
+ proceeds with shutdown all is well. Two issues:

  1. If I press cancel, I am left in middle. System won't shutdown and I
cant see any menu bar, application short cuts, system tray etc. Can't
use the system have to do ctrl+alt+del or ctrl_alt+backspace

- 2. Why does it ask to shutdown at all? All other applications it
- automatically force closes, why only tomboy it asks before shutting
- down?
+ 2. Why is tomboy always 'not responding' causing linux to show shutdown
+ anyway screen? All other applications are closed automatically or forced
+ closed, why only for tomboy it asks before shutting down?

[Bug 836480] Re: CPU fan runs very very fast ubuntu 11.10 dell xpsl702x

2011-08-31 Thread Amit Rana
Hi, Thanks for responding.

I tried on 2.6.38-11 and it seem to work fine.

Now I want to try with 3.0-0.1, can you please guide me how to install
this? Currently I trying following

sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.0-0-generic_3.0-0.1_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package linux-headers-3.0-0-generic.
(Reading database ... 207245 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking linux-headers-3.0-0-generic (from
linux-headers-3.0-0-generic_3.0-0.1_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-headers-3.0-0-generic:
 linux-headers-3.0-0-generic depends on linux-headers-3.0-0; however:
  Package linux-headers-3.0-0 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing linux-headers-3.0-0-generic (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-headers-3.0-0-generic

Do I need to do something else also here? Shall I remove the old 3.0.0-9
that I have currently?

Kindly guide.

2011-08-29 Thread Amit Rana
Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for looking into this. With no touch screen and no touchpad my
ubuntu experience is becoming really difficult :)

*1) I did that.
*2) No, it did not enable it.
*3) devices.txt attached
*4) synclientOutput.txt attached.

[Bug 836480] [NEW] CPU fan runs very very fast ubuntu 11.10 dell xpsl702x

2011-08-29 Thread Amit Rana
Public bug reported:

1. Till login screen fan speed is ok
2. Soon after login fan starts running like crazy. The air coming out becomes
hot after sometime.
3. Fan works quite normally in windows 7
4. I booted from ubuntu 11.04 live cd (and did some work) fan was fine
5. I booted and worked using Open Suse 11.04 , fan was fine.

I initially had 11.04 but don't remember if fan was ok with it. This is
a new laptop. 1 day after I installed 11.04 I upgraded to 11.10. I will
try to downgrade (if possible, someone on irc told me cant downgrade)
and report.

This is critical as I may end up not using ubuntu. I am sure if its a
bug it will affect hardware finally?
