I also tested the workaround, to remove the battery from the laptop
(https://www.msi.com/product/notebook/GX600.html). It works...
Now, who is to blame for poor coding ?

[Bug 1337969] Re: VLC crashes on some movies

2014-07-04 Thread Anca Emanuel
The bug was set to invalid automatically.
I set it to new because I updated my system just yesterday, and this is NOT the
first time I see this.

The no debug thing is new, that I think is another problem with the
apport reporting service.

But if I just close that dialog there is no difference.

[Bug 1257338] Re: [Acer Aspire E1-572] Freezes at shutdown screen when attempting to shutdown

2013-12-14 Thread Anca Emanuel
The above patch queued for 3.13 in for-linus branch from Bjorn Helgaas
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/helgaas/pci.git/commit/?h=for-linus&id=4fc9bbf98fd66f879e628d8537ba7c240be2b58e

@Tarpoon: is not upstream yet, but you can git cherry-pick, or manual
apply, etc.

[quote]
PCI: Disable Bus Master only on kexec reboot
Add a flag to tell the PCI subsystem that kernel is shutting down in
preparation to kexec a kernel. Add code in PCI subsystem to use this flag
to clear Bus Master bit on PCI devices only in case of kexec reboot.

This fixes a power-off problem on Acer Aspire V5-573G and likely other
machines and avoids any other issues caused by clearing Bus Master bit on
PCI devices in normal shutdown path. The problem was introduced by
b566a22c2332 ("PCI: disable Bus Master on PCI device shutdown").

This patch is based on discussion at
http://marc.info/?l=linux-pci&m=138425645204355&w=2

I do not think the bug 1215474 is a duplicate of this. I used the

[Bug 1212199] Re: Network not working after resume from suspend (r8169)

2013-08-19 Thread Anca Emanuel
@ Comment #19:
I can not reproduce that behavior (in comment #12).

I can reproduce this: restart, from LightDM login, click on suspend, resume
works.
This is with kernel 3.2 (log attached) and the latest kernel.

If I log on and suspend, then resume, now the desktop is not responding any
more.
Of course Alt+SysRQ+REISUB works.

[Bug 1212199] Re: Network not working after resume from suspend (r8169)

2013-08-16 Thread Anca Emanuel
I can not exclude the crappy quality of the mainboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130095
(click on feedback tab)

I get mixed results.
I shut down my PC over night. Then in the morning it might work to suspend.
And some times it is not connecting from the start. (I need to go to menu and
click Enable Networking (actually disable it), then again to have it working
(observed this very few times over the last years))

And from the last few days of testing: After a number of hours working I
experience the behavior presented in the screenshot at post #9. With
this "feature": restart from menu: click on it and nothing happens. But
it works from command line: "sudo reboot".

[Bug 1212199] Re: Network not working after resume from suspend (r8169)

2013-08-14 Thread Anca Emanuel
@Joseph Salisbury: I did not wait enough in suspend time (If I hear my hdd is
powering off, then wait 1 second, then press something on keyboard to resume).
That is working on every kernel tried including 3.7.10
But If I wait some time, when I resume my PC, the network is not working.

Sorry for confusion.

[Bug 1212199] Re: Network not working after resume from suspend (r8169)

2013-08-14 Thread Anca Emanuel
Ok. Something else is to blame (mir ?) because I tested suspend and resume from
menu (mouse click on suspend) and it works with the latest kernel (3.11.0-rc5
from Ubuntu).
And is NOT working if I press sleep button on my keyboard.

[Bug 1101678] Re: SyntaxError when trying to update: 'invalid syntax' in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/xdiagnose/welcome.py'

2013-01-18 Thread Anca Emanuel
In /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/xdiagnose/welcome.py line 219
"--height=480")
it is missing an ]
correct version:
"--height=480"])

The same on line 229.

Same problem in file /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/xdiagnose/welcome.py

and two more syntax errors in other files: "print tr" and "print tree"
I just commended that lines out (with an #) and I get no more errors.

Wainting for an proper fix.

Re: [Bug 1082314] Re: Raring wake up from S3 broken

2012-12-03 Thread Anca Emanuel
I am running the stock raring ringtail, and after I noticed that
upgrade to libwayland0 version 1.0.2 and something, I decided to:
sudo apt-install weston
but nothing hapened.

Quote: "There hasn't been much in the way of X changes in raring so far;"
I can confirm that the shape of the startup messages from kernel are changed.
I khow how they are before, and I can allays compare with my precise install.

I installed rarring on 13.nov.2012:
http://forum.ubuntu.ro/viewtopic.php?pid=153808#p153808
Tested updates. Updated to kernel 3.7 with "Software Updater". It was working.
I do not remember what other updates caused the problem.

Then I decided to test install from Live CD on 15.nov.2012
(successfully installed on 17.nov:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/243/builds/27678/testcases/1302/results
 )

[Bug 1082314] Re: Raring wake up from S3 broken

2012-11-26 Thread Anca Emanuel
I will repeat: this is NOT a kernel regression. 3.7-rc4 and 3.5 were
both working before some userspace updates. After that, I tested both
3.7-rc4 and 3.5, I get an black screen.

I'm compiling now 3.7-rc7. I can git bisect it, but there is no point
since I already tested 3.5 and is not working.

I was testing Raring some weeks ago (have kernel 3.5) and there was no

Then testing updates, including kernel 3.7
After other updates, I discovered that I have an black screen after S3 sleep.
