[Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]

2021-06-12 Thread Andras Mocsary
How do I figure out which application tripped the policy and then
resulted in the dialog?

In my case the unclickable dialog happens on my Desktop PC booting into my
Ubuntu 20.04.
No VM, no remote connection, no xRPD involved, no new software installed, no
torrents, and downloaded nothing.

I have several virtual networks created by docker, but this setup worked
for years until a few days ago.

The only change was that I added a new SSD to the system on top of
existing ones, formatted to ext4, but it's not even in fstab yet.

[Bug 1910115] [NEW] package runit 2.1.2-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2021-01-04 Thread BODOR, Andras
Public bug reported:

Dear Sirs!
On the summer of 2010 I tried to install MS Visual Studio (linux) SDK (64bit)
software and it faild
with the ruit error. Sorry I have 32bit machine (dell latitude d410). From that
time on every
ubuntu 16.04 LTS update (if actually was something) then it stops with this
error and asks for
something new? setup. I start the setup window and look threw it without any
change and close it.
The update procss successfully finished, the OS got the updates and operates
well without any
symptomes, but on the next updates everything repeats once again, in the end
operating well.

Thanks, sincerelly,
Andras Bodor

U.i. The bug by me is not a security bug! It is a missinstallation by

[Bug 1875335] [NEW] evolution public certificate lookups in ldap fail

2020-04-27 Thread Istvan-Attila Andras via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Looking up user's public certificates in AD/LDAP fail while looking up
with regular ldapsearch works without any issues.

ldapsearch -LLL -b DC=company,DC=com -H ldap://ADDC.company.com -Q -N
'(cn=username)' userCertificate -z 10 -o ldif-wrap=no
dn: CN=username,OU=CA,OU=User,OU=OU1,OU=ID,OU=OU2,DC=company,DC=com
userCertificate:: MII...truncated

Evolution can't look up these certificates and evolution's address book
processes hang even crash evolution.

The same configuration work both with ldapsearch and in thunderbird, but
thunderbird is not an alternative in this case.

[Bug 1755987] Re: onboard onscreen keyboard lacks arrow keys, pg up/down delete etc

2020-01-26 Thread Andras Muranyi
>From https://askubuntu.com/questions/1153506/how-do-i-enable-all-keys-
on-the-touchscreen-keyboard :

The GNOME On Screen Keyboard (OSK) is designed to generate keyboards
from the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository data. The Unicode CLDR
was never intended to limit the keys available, but that seems to be the
path the GNOME developers are following. If a key isn't in the CLDR,
there is no way to type it. So, that means, no Esc, no F1, no Control,
etc.

doubt if the outcome would be different since the bug was an obvious
configuration setting. Please alert me if you insist doing a full check

I've been playing around trying to break things again, and it seems as
though the issue was having Extensions enabled (which I believe is the
default Ubuntu behavior). Since disabling them, locking and unlocking
works as it should (locking once immediately locks the screen, dock is
not visible on the lock screen, and dock is still present after logging
back in following the locking action).

I just tested something, and it turns out that the issue was I had the
Extensions turned on (even though each extension itself was off, as in
the picture). Once I toggled that off, the issue resolved itself and now
locking appears to work perfectly. Not sure why having extensions on
would cause this behavior, though.

[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-18 Thread Andras Veto
This is after locking the screen once.

I opened the top right menu after locking the screen, and then opened
the keyboard menu to the left of it. Both stay up, and can no longer be
interacted with. The blurriness on the menus is not just because of the
picture, that's what it looks like.

[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-18 Thread Andras Veto
Thanks for your response. Sorry for not seeing the existing bug reports.

When I lock once, the ui freezes completely and is still visible.

However, on the top bar (sorry, not sure what the specific terms are),
the "Activities" button, any open application indicators (the things
with the icons and the application name in the top bar), and the
date/time disappear, but the keyboard language indicator and other
indicators on the top right remain visible. It is still possible to
click on the keyboard indicator or top right menu to bring them up, but
at that point they can no longer be interacted with. The top right menu
does show a pause button instead of the settings/lock/power button.

Pressing lock a second time locks the screen as normal.

This morning, I tried locking the screen by pressing the button itself
instead of using the keyboard shortcut, and that worked the first time,
but displayed the behavior described above the second time.

I only have gnome-tweaks installed that I know of (for disabling mouse
acceleration). In the extensions tab, both items (kstatusnotifieritem
and ubuntu dock) were disabled.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information to help resolve
this, or if this was unclear. I would attach pictures, but PrtSc doesn't
do anything after pressing lock the first time.

[Bug 1803807] [NEW] Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-16 Thread Andras Veto
Public bug reported:

Super+l needs to be pressed twice to lock the screen. Pressing the
shortcut only once results in strange behavior. Locking the screen in
general is buggy (e.g. dock is visible when screen is locked, once
screen is unlocked the dock disappears even after pressing activities).
These issues were not present in 18.04. I am on a fresh install of 18.10
with gnome.

The lock screen should maintain the functionality present in 18.04. Pressing
the shortcut once should lock the screen, no ui elements should remain on the
locked screen, locking and unlocking the screen should not result in the dock

The lock screen no longer works. It is possible to view and interact with ui

[Bug 1780196] Re: Timed out Availability of block devices service

2018-07-11 Thread Andras Tim
I found the commit where introduced this blkdeactivate:

In this case, this stuff runs too early, as I think.

[Bug 1780196] [NEW] Timed out Availability of block devices service

2018-07-05 Thread Andras Tim
Public bug reported:

On a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 (64 bit) Server install, the blk-
availability.service always killed by timeout at shutdown.

I think the dependency of this service is bad, but I don't know what
would be the good shutdown order for this.

An almost same config has been worked on Xenial...

The disk sub-system is
  * NVMe SSD
* EFI partition
* boot partition
* LVM phisical volume
* root logical volume
* swap logical volume
* data logical volume
  * 2 pcs. HDDs in RAID1 (but the md0 is not used yet)

Yeah, my BIOS update policy is "don't update until you're experiencing a
problem with it". Now I have updated from version 0503 to 1605 (and
curiously, I had to reinstall grub2), but unfortunately I'm having the
same problems.

[Bug 1501789] [NEW] Mounting encrypted home and video driver fail at kernel update

2015-10-01 Thread Andras Muranyi
Public bug reported:

Updated from linux-image-3.13.0-63-lowlatency to
linux-image-3.13.0-65-lowlatency and at the following boot login failed and
row-res mode appeared.
I tried `update-initramfs -k -u` in recovery mode but it didn't help. It seems
that the graphical login fails because of a failure to mount the encrypted home.
On all the previous kernel updates, no such problem occurred.
Booting into the older kernel works fine.

works as expected.*

but in ALSA one input and two outputs appear.

[Bug 1390474] Re: Volume element PCM has 6 channels. That's too much! with Terratec PHASE26

2015-01-08 Thread Andras Muranyi
have you ask Arun how to revert his patch ?

No, I am just an end user so I don't feel I shall ask someone to revert their
patch.
However... Arun? The patch was registered by Tanu Kaskinen and Colin Guthrie. I
have forwarded this bug to them. Colin did not reply, Tanu's reply is above.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1390474/comments/5

I would appreciate if, in case you think that is the best solution for
the moment, you proposed reverting the patch to the appropriate
personnel. Thanks.

Anyway, shall we triage this bug, shan't we? Otherwise it will just
expire.

this mean your usb audio have a 6 channel playbacck volume control similar to
 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84983#c5

Does this mean that bug #936539 (Freedesktop bug 84983 on Launchpad) involves
all devices with more than 2 volume channels?
In that case, shall I suggest to change the description of #936539 to
something more general and mark this one as a duplicate?

reproduce it, and could work on the code, the chances of fixing it would be
high(er). As I pointed out already, I use POP3 and IMAP with local filters on
two machines and didn't see this problem for a long time, so best would be to
fix on a machine where it actually manifests it.
It was a long time ago when I last worked on Akonadi/KMail code, but here are
some hints:
- add debug output (possibly with timestamps) in the filtering and the akonadi
code. You might have to do that both in the akonadi server and the akonadi
resources (filter agent and the base classes)
- the filter agent is in kdepim/mailfilteragent, the starting point could be
mailfilteragent.cpp and there the itemAdded() method. This is called when a new
mail appeares in a monitored folder (ie. the inbox)
- itemsReceiviedForFiltering() there is called when the filter agent retrieves
the above item (so it can analyze that it needs to be filtered or not)
- interesting code could be also in Akonadi::AgentBase class (kdepimlibs
repository) and the changeRecorder() part, but only if you can't figure out
anything useful from the above
- mailfilteragent/filtermanager.cpp is the code that does the filtering.
processContextItem() is the method that does the move/copy of the messages.
Adding debug output here also makes sense to see when does this happen
- for the server itself you can enable debugging in the akonadiconsole app,
although this will give you lots of data and will make things slow, so better
make sure you don't get lot of mails while debugging is enabled. But it can
show all the communication between the akonadi server and the clients and all
the jobs running and their order.

[Bug 883459]

2014-11-22 Thread Andras Mantia
Unless someone changed meantime, the way it works is:
- mail is delivered to Inbox
- the filtering code gets a notification of new mails
- it runs the filters on them and does what you have set up in the filter, like
moves the mail

2014-11-08 Thread Andras Mantia
If you look at the history, you see we care about it and use it.
Unfortunately I have no real time for KMail these days, and for me it
works. Both for POP3 and IMAP accounts, I have no mail duplication with
filters, so it is really hard to do anything without spending a lot of
time on it,

[Bug 1381475] Re: Firewire sound card registered by the name of the fw controller

2014-10-16 Thread Andras Muranyi
 which name do you want
when you plug and unplug the device ?

Based on how other cards are named (see previous attachment Firewire sound
card listed in Sound Settings) there sould be a short description of the
output, followed by the short name of the card. For example:
10 Channels *
PHASE 88 **

* Please note that the 10 output channels are, in this case, 8 Analog
and 2 Digital (the same applies to Input channels). As far as I can see,
normally the 8 Channels Analog Output and the Digital Output
(S/PDIF) would be displayed as two separate options in Sound Settings -
I guess this is beyond the scope of the current issue and I shall file a
new bug.

** or PHASE 88 Rack FW

[Bug 1381475] [NEW] Firewire sound card registered by the name of the fw controller

2014-10-15 Thread Andras Muranyi
Public bug reported:

I am testing the new snd-firewire ALSA module which is currently getting
accepted into the kernel.
I have noticed that while ALSA recognizes the correct name for the card,
PulseAudio displays another, wrong name, which is apparently the name of the
FireWire controller through which the sound card is connected.

[Bug 1308628] Re: xhci-hda does not support isochronous streaming on usb 2.0 devices

2014-10-10 Thread Andras
Same problem here with Intel D54250WYK NUC box + Audiolab M-DAC which
uses async USB connection for 24/96 audio.

It seems that the problem only occurs with Intel USB3 controllers.
Unfortunately the internal USB2.0 headers in my NUC are controlled by the same
USB3.0 controller, and there is no option in the BIOS to disable the XHCI
(USB3) mode.
I have indicated the problem towards Intel:
https://communities.intel.com/message/255474#255474

Here is a discussion regarding the Linux xhci_hcd isochronous problem:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg107264.html

Last mail on 8 May 2014:
This does seem to point to an incompatibility between the driver and
the Intel xHCI hardware. Figuring out what that incompability is may
not be easy, though...

[Bug 1327628] [NEW] Incorrect Package Recommendation for Xen on 14.04

2014-06-07 Thread Andras Ketskes
Public bug reported:

The ganeti package (as of 2.10.5-1~trusty+1) recommends qemu-kvm, xen-
linux-system-amd64 or xen-linux-system-686-pae on 14.04. Since the Xen
meta-package has been renamed to xen-system-amd64 (no i386 version any
more), this results in qemu-kvm being installed even on Xen-based
setups.

A workaround for the time being is to install with:
apt-get install --no-install-recommends ganeti

the packaging information (by the way I did not find any localized
.properties files there at all).
