[Bug 908679] Re: No java runtime found

2012-07-23 Thread Andre von Roznowski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 887077 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887077

This problem also affects freeplane - another java-based mindmapping
tool - on oneiric ocelot. Workaround is to prepend JAVA_HOME=/usr, so
the command line reads JAVA_HOME=/usr freeplane

Re the man page not working: the package is called java-wrappers, not
java_wrappers, so man java-wrappers works.

Environment
ubuntu 11.10 3.0.0-23-generic

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pxi3260sr10fp1-20120321_01(SR10 FP1))

[Bug 1019784] [NEW] Authentication Dialog (sudo) does not accept input from virtual keyboard

2012-07-01 Thread Andre von Roznowski
Public bug reported:

On a tablet computer, when superuser privileges are requested, eg. using
the Update Manager, the Authentication Dialog window opens up but there
is not way to enter the password using a virtual keyboard. It appears
the the Authentication Dialog is in front of all other windows,
preventing one to bring the virtual keyboard to the foreground, or if it
is already displayed, it remains in the background and does not accept
any input.

The only workaround is to connect a physical keyboard.

This effectively renders Ubuntu with Gnome-Shell useless on a tablet
computer.

I found the same problem on 11.10 and 12.04 with Gnome-Shell.

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: authentication keyboard sudo virtual

[Bug 706684] Re: jockey freezes system with hundreds of jockey-gtk processes

2011-01-31 Thread Andre von Roznowski
I"ve found and a workaround for this bug, refer below. It would still
be good to properly triage and fix this bug, though, as the system is
unusable without this resolution.

I noticed that the firmware was not auto-installed for my Hauppauge
WinTV-HVR4000(Lite) DVB-S/S2 [card=69,autodetected], and the system was
permanently reporting that it could not find the firmware for this card,
which was putting a load on the system, although it was still usable.
In a failsafe session, in whiche the system does not freeze, I proceeded
to install the firmware for the card, which is in the package linux-
firmware-nonfree (sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree), and then
logged out and back into a normal desktop session. As a positive side
effect, the system no longer spawns the thousands of jockey-gtk
processes and no longer freezes. So, this bug only seems to be visible
when firmware is missing from the system.

[Bug 706684] [NEW] jockey freezes system with hundreds of jockey-gtk processes

2011-01-23 Thread Andre von Roznowski
Public bug reported:

Shortly after logging into a non-failsafe gnome desktop, the system
freezes (at first, it becomes sluggish, mouse pointer becomes jumpy,
then the whole system grinds to a halt). When the desktop starts up, I
can open a terminal window and noticed hundreds (or more) instances of
jockey-gtk. In a failsafe session, no jockey-backend runs, and the
system behaves normally. This behaviour started only after a recent
update was applied - before the update, it worked fine.
