[Bug 9489] Re: Wrong default paper size

same problem exists in 9.04 beta. for LaserJet 5M
Printing always sends in "letter" format, disrespecting the printer driver
setting that is clearly set to "A4"

can be solved by ; sudo dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1

but the real solution should be that default paper format should depend on the
locale variable.

[Bug 338286] [NEW] language selector in Jaunty lists something in "wrong" place

2009-03-05 Thread AndreD
Public bug reported:

Norway operates with "two" versions of the Norwegian language:
"Bokmål" , and "Nynorsk"
Bokmål is the common, normal language
Nynorsk is a bizarre pile of crap they teach at school for 2-3 years.

Anyway:

Installed languages lists among others these:

Bokmål, Norwegian
Norwegian (? - can be removed - I assume it's the same as bokmål, anyway only
two should be needed)
Norwegian Nynorsk..

the problem is that the first, "bokmål, norwegian" starts with "B" and can be
found in a completely different place.
"Bokmål, Norwegian" should be renamed to "Norwegian, Bokmål"

[Bug 213005] Re: file-roller asks for password on non-passworded multi-part rars when extracting over samba

2009-02-16 Thread AndreD
yes, same problem with samba on 8.10
-but it works with non-free RAR.

many programs work poorly with smb:// , as I see it, ubuntu should
automatically mount smb:// shares to local file system, allowing
programs to operate as-if the files were local.

[Bug 318536] [NEW] Drivers for QL-500 found, but not downloadable,

2009-01-18 Thread AndreD
Public bug reported:

I installed Brother QL-500 (thermal, label printer)
-it installed at generic, text only.
-I chose to "change driver", and selected "search for a printer driver to
download"
Entered "Brother QL-500" , and "Brother QL-500" was found, clicked "forward"
- and an empty download-list spawned.

Even when searching for "QL500" - "Brother QL-500" is found, this
proves that the download system "knows" about it.

Brother's CUPS drivers, are here:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/es/os/linux/linux_ql500550.html
i had no luck installing it, but it surely will help you competent Linux guys.

[Bug 222526] Re: dim dispay when idle (power management)

2008-12-03 Thread AndreD
the problem remains in Ubuntu 8.10
it may be a little different:
display is not dimmed (backlit intensity not changed) nor with external power,
or when on battery.

additional info:
Backlit intensity is controllable via hotkeys, but the animated bar has
different amount of steps than the electronic controller, so the "progress bar"
proceeds several steps after the maximum intensity is reached.

Also, the selected intensity is *not* saved on logoff/shutdown and
restored on login.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

how to reproduce (all steps uses nautilus 2.22.2):
-open a samba share like smb:\\server\share\
-drag a folder or file from that share to empty CD-R
-this gives this error msg:

Error while copying "(filename)" , there was an error copying file
into network:///.

This must be wrong, where does the need to copy file "into" network:///. come
from ?
- if files are first copied to local HD, burning works fine.

[Bug 224174] [NEW] Impress: resolution trouble on desktop VS projector

2008-04-29 Thread AndreD
Public bug reported:

Laptop screen resolution :1280x800
VGA Output: 1024x768
Desktop, taskbar and launch-bar is nicely resized to 1024x768, even when
showing on the Laptop's display.
however, when a presentation (openoffice/impress) starts, it uses the whole
1280x800 area, so the output on the projector is missing a part of the image.

the right thing to do, would be to force impress to only "see" a
1024x768 desktop... - and render to that.
