[Bug 1827029] [NEW] Extended characters in OSK don't get entered

2019-04-30 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This bug affects any of the "extended characters" clicked on from the
long-press popup in the Screen Keyboard.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Settings > Universal Access
2. Enable the Screen Keyboard. (Optionally, turn on Always Show Universal
Access Menu to make turning the Screen Keyboard on and off easier.)
3. Open Text Editor
4. Click the u button on the Screen Keyboard
5. Long-press the u button on the Screen Keyboard for a few seconds.
6. On the popup, click the ü character.

What Happens
In Step 4, u is entered in the Text Editor document.
Nothing is entered in Step 5.

[Regression Potential]
The code to be backported only affects OSK. Check that normal OSK keys (e.g.
a,b,c,...) normally works.

[Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failure Switch to greeter...

2019-04-26 Thread Andrea Azzarone
I can no longer reproduce the issue in bionic installing unity from proposed
7.5.0+18.04.20190304-0ubuntu1. Please note that if you're running gdm3 in order
to reproduce (or not reproduce) the problem you need the follow steps:
1. Lock the screen
2. Switch to gdm using ctrl + alt + f1
3. Use gdm to unlock the session
4. The session should be unlocked
5. Lock again the session
6. Depending on the unity version you are running you should be able to
reproduce (not reproduce the bug)

[Bug 1822753] Re: /usr/bin/gedit:11:gedit_metadata_manager_set:gedit_document_set_metadata:save_metadata:gedit_document_dispose:g_object_unref

2019-04-16 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Gedit crashes when it is closed while a file is being loaded or just after
the file has been loaded.
+
+ The bug is a regression in Disco: in Cosmic Gedit is built using
+ autotools while in Disco we use meson. During the port to meson upstream
+ forgot to port a build option (in particular 'enable-gvfs-metadata',
+ enabled by default). Without this option a broken - and untested - code
+ path is activated.
+
+ To fix thisd bug we should reintroduce the 'enable-gvfs-metadata'
+ option.
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Create a big text file
+ 2. Open gedit
+ 3. Close the window while the file is still being loaded
+
+ Also check there are no more reports in e.u.c.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The change affects the way gedit stores the file metadata. Try for example
+ 1. open a file
+ 2. focus a random line
+ 3. close the file
+ 4. re-open the file
+ 5. make sure the random line that you focused in point 2. is focused
+

I proposed a fix upstream [1]. A workaround can be added to apport to
workaroud this while polkit is fixed upstream: we could for example
spawn pkttyagent manually (a similar approach is used by systemd).

[Bug 1820259] [NEW] [FFe] Add a indicator to show the status of Livepatch

2019-03-15 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareUpdates#livepatch there should a
indicator in the top bar to show the status of Livepatch. The indicator
will not be shown in Disco because Livepatch only supports LTS releases.
We need to ship the indicator anyway in order to SRU it to Bionic.

The risk of regressions is low because all the introduced code is not
run if Livepatch is not supported.

[Bug 1817266] [NEW] FTBS Unity7 when using cosmic-proposed or bionic-proposed.

2019-02-22 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Unity7 (and likely others debs too) fails to build from source when
cosmic-proposed or bionic-proposed are enabled. An example of failure
can be seen here: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/411782206
/buildlog_ubuntu-bionic-
amd64.unity_7.5.0+18.04.20190218-0ubuntu1_BUILDING.txt.gz

In order to fix the problem we should SRU glewmx 1.13.0-4ubuntu2 to
bionic and cosmic.

[Test Case]
* Get unity7 code from git.
* Build it using gbp + sbuild on bionic or cosmic
* Make sure it builds

[Regression Potential]
The change is small enough and should not create any regression.

[Bug 1816808] [NEW] [disco] OSK does not appear under wayland when a text-entry is focused

2019-02-20 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

1. Login in a wayland session
2. Open an application with a text entry (e.g. gedit)
3. Focus gedit using the touch screen

Expected result:
The OSK appears

Actual results:
The OSK does not appear.

---

This is caused by the fact that we still set GTK_IM_MODULE in Wayland.
IIRC during the cosmic cycle we introduced a change to not set
GTK_IM_MODULE under Wayland but we dropped it because there were users
experiencing crashes when using libreoffice: upstream should have fixed
those crashes to my knowledge.

Also why are we setting GTK_IM_MODULE in X11 too? gnome-settings-daemon
should be smart enough to load/unload that at run-time when required
/not-required.

[Bug 1724630] Re: gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock: Dock accessible from lock screen

2019-02-19 Thread Andrea Azzarone
gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock and gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock

[Bug 1810382] Re: Gnome software error posting a review for snap app

2019-02-12 Thread Andrea Azzarone
It looks like that since https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
software/commit/e54b31cc85ddef6f9579cb85bbdf53dbb9d9091d snaps are no
longer marked AS_APP_QUIRK_NOT_REVIEWABLE. This because ODRS supports
Snap Reviews. Unfortunately, ODRS plugin is disabled for you (and maybe
for all cosmic users?) while ubuntu-reviews plugin is still
installed/enabled hence the issue. @robert-ancell what's the proper way
to fix this? Maybe we should enable ODRS in cosmic and disable ubuntu-
reviews?

2019-01-24 Thread Andrea Azzarone
@blackwicked, you're still affected by the issue because you manually
installed the extension "Dash to dock". Please try to remove it (or
manually patch it), restart your shell (alt+f2 and then 'r') an.d let me
know if you can still reproduce the issue

[Bug 1760399] Re: New On-screen keyboard does not appear automatically when selecting some text fields

2019-01-23 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
on-screen keyboard cannot be reliably opened when running under xorg.

  [Test Case]
  1. Login into an xorg session
- 1. Open Firefox
+ 1. Open an application with text-entries (e.g. Firefox)
  2. Try to enter text in a text entry using the new OSK

  Expected results:
  The on-screen keyboard should appear.

  [Regression Potential]
The proposed fix requires a change in the way gnome-settings-daemon decides
to enable or disable ibus. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when
using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese).

  [Original Report]
I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for entering
text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time I cannot, since
I cannot manually trigger the new OSK.

  Steps:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK
  3. You cannot make the OSK appear

When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I
cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK
first from Universal Access in Settings.

I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily
  triggered.

  Workaround:

  sudo apt install onboard

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
  Package: gnome-shell 3.28.0-0ubuntu2
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-13.14-generic 4.15.10
  Uname: Linux 4.15.0-13-generic x86_64
  ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu2
  Architecture: amd64
  CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME
  Date: Sun Apr 1 11:31:16 2018
  DisplayManager: gdm3
InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-02 (180 days ago)
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Beta amd64 (20170930)

[Bug 1760399] Re: New On-screen keyboard does not appear automatically when selecting some text fields

2019-01-22 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

- I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for
- entering text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time
- I cannot, since I cannot manually trigger the new OSK.
+ [Impact]
+ on-screen keyboard cannot be reliably opened when running under xorg.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Login into an xorg session
+ 1. Open Firefox
+ 2. Try to enter text in a text entry using the new OSK
+
+ Expected results:
+ The on-screen keyboard should appear.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The proposed fix requires a change in the way gnome-settings-daemon decides
to enable or disable ibus. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when
+ using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese).
+
+ [Original Report]
+ I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for entering
text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time I cannot, since
I cannot manually trigger the new OSK.

  Steps:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK
  3. You cannot make the OSK appear

When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I
cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK
first from Universal Access in Settings.

I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily
  triggered.

  Workaround:

  sudo apt install onboard
