[Bug 335256] Re: ifconfig rausb0 up produces SIOCSIFFLAGS: Invalid argument

2009-03-11 Thread Andreas Gnau
My question is, if you have tried without following any guides. Ubuntu already
ships a driver that should (as far as I know) work.
It is likely that if you didn't need to follow any guide it could maybe work
without any problems.

[Bug 339670] Re: ndiswrapper uses deprecated "update-modules" command

2009-03-11 Thread Andreas Gnau
The message is completely harmless. What ndiswrapper tries to achieve is
to work on all kinds of distributions. You could make it stop calling
update-modules if modprobe.d exists or something like that (this needs
to be investigated).

Again: the message is completely harmless, see man update-modules.

PS: ndiswrapper -ma is the recommended way to make ndiswrapper load
automatically nowadays.

[Bug 322748] Re: Install st121g driver vista 64 bit but not work and generate errors.

2009-01-31 Thread Andreas Gnau
You seem to have installed a 32bit-driver ("kernel is 64-bit, but Windows
driver is not 64-bit;bad magic: 010B").
You have to use the 64-bit-XP-driver (i.e. not Vista and not 32-bit).
NDISwrapper doesn't work with Vista-drivers, yet.

[Bug 28624] Re: device.DEVICE script should set layer-2/3 protocol right after creating the interface

2008-08-10 Thread Andreas Gnau
For reference I include a German translation of biop0b's forum post [1].

I4L is at fault. The driver only supports HDLC.
After loading the driver I4L sets it to X.75 by default, though.
Therefore I4L blocks the setting of the numbers because the driver only claims
to support HDLC.

[Bug 218179] [NEW] rt2x_cfg80211 doesn't support European frequency ranges

2008-04-16 Thread Andreas Gnau
Public bug reported:

rt2x_cfg80211's ieee80211_regdom only supports two values: US and JP.
There is no setting for europe. In former mac80211-versions there was
ieee80211_regdom=64 in the mac80211-module, which now seems to be gone in
favour of cfg80211's ieee80211_regdom's setting.
It might be worth thinking about reimplementing the European freguency-range
again.

[Bug 121118] Re: command-not-found suggests ndiswrapper-common instead of ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

2008-03-07 Thread Andreas Gnau
Knowing that the data for command-not-found is generated automatically I
don't understand why making an exception in the generation-process for
ndiswrapper (making ndiswrapper point to ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 instead
of ndiswrapper-common is not possible). Furthermore I think you
misunderstood the problem. This bug isn't about a missing internet
connection. The problem is, that ndiswrapper-common installs nothing but
a useless wrapper-script.

The package not found is another problem which should actually be a
different bug that affects the documentation, but not command-not-found-
data.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-02-13 Thread Andreas Gnau
Tim, the rt2x00 driver supports rt61 (rt2561) and rt73 (rt2573), too,
but I agree that this bug could be divided into several different bugs
and that some of those bugs that are marked as duplicates aren't real
duplicates.

In my opinion this bug doesn't actually make much sense anymore because
it is filled up with a lot of different problems of which most of them
aren't related to each other, because they deal with chipset-specific
issues.

Fixing this "bug" is really difficult as the actual issues aren't _that_
clear or because it isn't fixed in latest upstream yet. Maybe some fixes
that are known to improve the situation can be merged from wireless-dev,
if the problem is clear.

[Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box

2008-02-13 Thread Andreas Gnau
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 134660 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134660

I really don't think this is a duplicate!
You can't simply put all ralink-problems under one bug in my opinion. This just
makes everything messy and it gets more difficult to find the actual problems.
rt61pci problems are way different to the rt73usb-problems! For example I (as a
rt61-card-owner) don't experience any problems with the rt200x rt61pci-driver.

This bug is about one specific problem where both rt2500usb and rt73usb
get loaded. After doing a diff of modinfo-ouput I found out that the
following usb-ids could be affected:

alias: usb:v148Fp2573d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v050Dp705Ad*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*
alias: usb:v050Dp7050d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*

PS: dylan, run echo 'blacklist rt2500usb'|sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rt2500usb
