[Bug 1486704] [NEW] LibreOffice Close Preview button text is very low contrast

2015-08-19 Thread Andrew Macpherson
Public bug reported:

Scenario: while using LibreOffice Writer, I accidentally found myself in
Print Preview mode, and couldn't find my way out. My colleagues told me
(via Skype text chat) to look for a button called Close Preview but I
couldn't find it. Much hilarity ensued. As far as I was concerned, there
was no button with that name.

Eventually, a colleague sent me a screenshot of his LibreOffice (on Mac
OS X) to show me where the button was. Navigating by the Print, Full
Screen, and spell-check buttons, I discovered that there IS a Close
Preview button after all, but it's so pale I simply hadn't seen it.

The button is NOT in a disabled state - it gains a button outline when the
pointer hovers over it, and is clickable.
But it's too pale to read; in fact I didn't spot it at all until I knew where
to look.
It's paler than the disabled buttons in the row above (spell-check, table tool).
It's even paler than the toolbar separator line.

It turns out the text colour is #DFDFDF on a #F2F2F2 background. This would not
be considered sufficient contrast for text on a website.
http://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html#fg=DFDFDF,bg=F2F2F2

So far, I have only noticed the problem with the Close Preview button in
Writer. I don't know if it affects other parts of the LibreOffice suite.

This is my first time reporting a bug in Ubuntu (yay!) but I'm unclear
how to classify it. I tried the Select Package dialog, but it said no
items matched LibreOffice Writer. Searching for LibreOffice told me
there were too many matches. Hopefullly we can assign it to the right
package later.

It's quite possible this should be filed against a different package
(perhaps a GTK theme?), or referred upstream to the LibreOffice project.

I tried out Libreoffice Writer using Kubuntu and Gnome Ubuntu (15.04
live usb demos). Both of those distros have very clear contrast for the
Close Preview button.

[Bug 1100315] [NEW] PySide crash with outstanding QTimer

2013-01-16 Thread Andrew MacPherson
Public bug reported:

Running this script in Python causes a segfault in PySide on exit:

from PySide import QtGui,QtCore
app = QtGui.QApplication([])
def dosomething():
  pass
QtCore.QTimer.singleShot(1000, dosomething)

I'm not sure what the behaviour should be exactly but it shouldn't
segfault.

get the attached crash and suspend still doesn't work.

I'm back on 3.2.0-20-generic for now.

[Bug 949073] [NEW] java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Cannot open file sRGB.pf

2012-03-07 Thread Andrew MacPherson
Public bug reported:

This appears to be the same as this bug:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=639883

I have a Java program that needs to use:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/cmm/sRGB.pf

In the openjdk-7-jre-headless package, the cmm directory is a symlink
into:

../../../java-7-openjdk-common/jre/lib/cmm

However Java doesn't seem to follow the symlink. If I copy the contents
of the symlinked folder into a real folder 'cmm' in /usr/lib/jvm/java-7
-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/ the problem goes away.

[Bug 937378] Re: Patched kernel with rc6 enabled shutdowns

2012-02-22 Thread Andrew MacPherson
Same issue here, I noticed that power consumption decreased after
updating to 3.2.0-17-generic and wondered if RC6 had been enabled by
default. A hard shutdown this morning made me do some searching to find
out that it had in fact been enabled. I'm on an Asus UX31 and have seen
this behaviour since I got it (frequent hard shutdowns with RC6
enabled). Let me know if I can provide any additional debugging info.
